In Japan, self sharpening mechanical pencil is a common product. You can buy it for under $3. The more expensive version, which costs around $20 not only sharpens the tip, but also prevents the tip of the lead from breaking, and automatically pulls out the lead you have used. You’ll never have to worry about knocking nor breaking your lead from excessive pressure.

I actually worked for a company that did contract design work for that rideable suitcase. The issues ended up being exactly what you said - too expensive, too heavy, limited use case, and cramming the tech into a size that was usable suitcase left a tiny capacity. It was a really cool idea though and it was fun to ride around the office on it on casual Fridays.

It's way too complicated and fragile for trade use! The perfect trade tool is a laser pointing tool, potentially with small pads that can be placed for accuracy. The pointer sends all data to your phone and an app would allow you to calculate anything you want in any format.

Just get a caliper ? What's the point of something being 0.1mm accurate if you have to "aim" by hand and sight anyway. If you need that level of accuracy, get a caliper, if you don't just use a ruler, or a laser.

In 2001 I visited the MIT media lab and I heard this fascinating story. They always admit students who have really interesting ideas and let them work on them, but also always admit a few students with crazy ideas, because it turns out they learn just as much from failed experiments. One of these was a guy who had the idea to use ultrasound to encapsulate the sound from a speaker, to everyone's surprise he actually made it work, and he got funding from, among others, Lockheed who saw potential savings on headphones on airplanes (think directed light, AC and sound from above). Since the Focusound i said to be developed in China, it might not be the same, but I suspect that the technology is similar.

It's a long time since I read something as interesting in youtube comments as your comment. Thanks for sharing. I wonder what they would say about my crazy inventions : D sadly, I'm not technical person and smart just enough to know that my idea is probably impossible and that's why it doesn't exist :D. My idea was "warmth in a can". If you can spray sth into the air to make it smell like lemon, why can't you spray the air to make it warm. Like let's say there's emergency, you are in the tent on mount everest, but you have "warmth in a can" you spray and the air in the tent gets comfy as hell, just as long as someone cames to save you. : D I would love an answer why that's completely impossible, why even is possible the warmth would last just seconds because it would be overpowered by a force that made the air cold in the first place. I know it's crazy. : D

@@michakowalski2930Warmth is either produced by friction or chemical reactions. So the sun or a space heater radiate infrared radiation, which energises the molecules in your skin. Energy is basically movement of particles so the more energised the particles are, the more they move, thus the hotter it gets. Particles you spray in the air can't radiate infrared radiation (or any radiation for that matter, like microwaves), so that's not going to happen. Your best bet would be to create some form of chemical reaction to heat the surrounding air, but I know of no such reaction that would yield any meaningful amount of energy and is safe for you. If there was a way to create warmth from spraying some particles in the air, it would be expensive, inefficient, impractical and unhealthy. It is simply easier to carry pocket warmers and maybe a space heater.
@biggusdickus8992
@biggusdickus8992 4 ай бұрын
@michakowalski2930 Not an expert either, but you could probably just use that "hairspray flamethrower" technique to make a can of warmth (it would technically work because it would set your tent on fire)

I'm an instructor pilot in helicopters. My client a couple of weeks ago had the Ray-Ban Meta glasses and was using them to film some of our flying. The quality of the videos is surprisingly good, but the major downside is that they only record for 30 seconds at a time. So when he was trying to record something like an autorotation (landing with a simulated engine failure), it would get the first bit, but stop recording before we actually got to the ground, which was disappointing since that was really what he wanted to see.

The autofollowing suitcase seems like the most FUN gadget of it all. I especially like the function of idling when it searches for the wristband. Imagine the airport filled with 50 of these just doing donuts to find their daddy.... Other question: How individual is the connection between your suitcase and the wristband? Imagine strolling through the airport only to find 8 suitcases that followed you to your gate :D

As someone who has been into Japanese stationary as a hobby for almost 10 years now, I can assure you that the uni-ball Kuru Toga is one of, if not the best mechanical pencil in the world. If you like writing with it then I would highly suggest upgrading to the Kuru Toga Advanced. It’s has a similar mechanism but rotates the lead twice as fast so the tip is always even and smooth. Also comes in an all metal body instead of just plastic. It has more weight which makes writing with it more balanced. That’s just the beginning though. I can give suggestions for days. Haha…

When I fist saw the invisibility shield, I was blown away. ...Until I realized that it's just made of those prismatic sheets they use in LCD/TFT screens to scatter the backlight. One layer will move the light 30 degrees to the right, another, 15 degrees to the left. etc, etc. I tore apart an early TFT screen once that had 8 layers of that stuff to it. They are little more that a glorified Fresnel lens. Just plastic sheets with grooves cut into them. Somebody just figured out how to market the technology in a unique way. But I will still give them credit for that.

You could use the rideable suitcase and attach a larger suitcase to the back somehow, or find a way to hold it with your hand and roll it behind you. That way you could have the perk of the ridable suitcase, while also having a suitcase that is actually functional. With that being said, idk why they don't just make the suitcase bigger. With the power and torque that thing has, it wouldn't really hurt anything.

As soon as I saw that northern lights light and you mentioned the glass tube I thought to myself "they should hook that up to a motor that spins it, that would make it actually look like there's a fire/water reflections". Then you mentioned that it DOES have a motor, but that its fried, which kinda sucks.

The ruler is the single best and most useful thing on this list. When I think of what the future is supposed to be like, I think of practicality first. All the other stuff that is not practical is gimmicky in one way or another and doesn't have the same potential as something that changes how you live your daily life.

The Kuro Toga self sharpening pencils are a bit hit and miss in my experience. From what I heard, the required pressure can vary between lots. And you need to reach a certain pressure threshhold, for the machanism to actually engage. So as someone who uses relatively light pressure in many circumstances, they don't really do it for me. I'd really enjoy, if they gave the user a way to adjust the required pressure, so it's not up to good luck with the lot. It also only works, when the lead is in the pushing-mechanism, so the last 5mm or so won't sharpen themselves. Otherwise, it does what it promises and works really well in cases, where you can employ the required pressure.

my main question with the glasses is what if you actually NEED them and your glasses die on you in the middle of the day. the idea of having to not wear your glasses so you can charge them is really funny but inconvenient (although i would assume that if someone did have smart glasses they'd have an extra pair for when they need to charge)

I absolutely love the future! In remember going to Epcot at Walt Disney world in Florida in the 1980's. There was an exibit of future products and a house of tomorrow! I remember walking up to the front door of the home of the future and there was a door bell that had a camera built in which is highly available now. Then when you walked inside and the house it asked you what you wanted done. For example,Turn on lights, turn on TV, play certain music and much more!! When the smart products of today have more AI built in, our smart homes. And i believe this is all very close to mass production! The goal is to have a home that knows how you want , has everything set, then will also welcome you home and ask you what you would like done! Can't wait.
