A lot of these older AMD CPUs have such abysmal single core that this can happen in a lot of games. Funnily enough, I have a laptop with an A8-7410 APU and it can't play L4D2 due to single-core bottleneck, but it CAN play The Witcher 3 because that game uses all the cores lol

@@aleksazunjic9672 Actually it was a tablet architecture. Intel's Contra Revenue (basically Intel giving away more than $1BN worth of Atom Chips + Designs) caused AMD to have lots of these sitting around. Because these absolutely destroy the Atom systems of the time, but OEMs can't beat the price of FREE so few OEMs ever used these. So AMD made a budget desktop platform with them just to sell the silicon to recoup some costs. I actually built one with an A4-5000 (integrated version) and used them as linux servers for years. They sip power and run cool.

@RandomGaminginHD
@RandomGaminginHD Жыл бұрын
Yeah seems to be between there :)
@HappyBeezerStudios
@HappyBeezerStudios Жыл бұрын
It's worse than that. I have more results in R15 than R20 around, but there my single core Celeron 440 gets 34 points and a E8400 gets 84/159, and R20 results seem to be around double the number than R15, so roughly extrapolating from that, the Core 2 should get around 320 multicore in R20. That thing is slower than a fast Core 2 Duo. That thing sits somewhere between a Pentium D and a Core 2 Duo in terms of performance. Maybe around a slow C2D. At less power draw, so low power 24/7 applications, like a NAS, seem the best use case for the Athlon 5150.

Today they are going to be used in a couple of Arcade Cab build projects with either Lakka, or Batocera Linux down the road. Well as soon as I get some cheap as dirt replacement AM1 motherboards that is. One thing to note performance hinders when you use more than one stick of RAM (for some odd reason). So you may want to just put in a single 8GB or 16GB stick of 1600 DDR3 RAM.

The CPU doesn't bottleneck the GPU. The Single channel DDR3 does. These CPUs were for small servers, web browsing and other basic stuff. GPUs worked quite well in these machines as this is after all what an Xbox or PS4 is.... The 71 score is better than many Atom machines. As a person who tests Mini PCs on the regular.... I have gotten a score of 58 on a few of them recently... Many of them are in the 60's to low 70s. Some have much higher multi-core scores, but mostly they land around the same territory. Perfectly usable for an "every day" PC if you aren't used to the fast stuff most of us gamers have purchased these days. These systems were insanely affordable to build years ago when they were available.... my friend built a whole new PC with one for around $180 including case, drive, PSU, Ram.... I think he paid $32 for the CPU and $30 for the motherboard...

The fan didn’t bother me in the 110, maybe I got lucky. I ended up shoving a 120 AIO in the last build I had in it. It is quite small, so unless you need it that small, I’d go with something slightly larger like others have suggested. I just wanted something to fit in the cubby of my tv stand, which had a limited depth. But between the AIO I had in it with both push/pull fans and a non-modular PSU, zip ties were my friend. Cooling also isn’t great as the only exhaust fans you have in it if you are using a gpu is the PSU’s fan if you mount it intake side down. If you are in the States, I’d send you the case for the cost of shipping. I am no longer using it.

Hey that's the exact same CPU I'm using for my NAS. Paired with 16GB of RAM and an SAS controller, it's been running reliably for years in my home network. It can handle torrenting and VPN at the same time at 1gbps. The onboard ethernet adapter is from realtek which sucks but my motherboard has only one pcie x16 slot, so can't add a server NIC. The best part is the cpu draws very little power (about 10-15w at max load). Point is it's never intended to be a gaming machine. Use it for gaming and of course you'll be disappointed.

In defense of the AM1 platform, or what I remember of it, the CPUs were all very low-powered, their coolers were near-silent as a result, and they made for great home media servers. Of course, buying a brand new platform for a home media server when there were (and are) literally quadrillions of Core 2 Duos lying around made even less sense then than it does now.

They were actually really great for home media systems because the GPUs could decode all the video formats of the time. The whole systems were cheap (motherboards typically $50 or less and same for the CPU). They ran silently and sipped power. Core2 boxes were cheap on ebay, but much larger and louder and used often 10x the power.... Also their iGPU couldn't decode anything so you needed a cheap GPU.

Finding a board that can overclock is ideal, but I had the Asrock AM1H-ITX that had a dedicated spot for mini-pcie wifi, which until the CMOS battery died was not bad. Mind you I also had the Athlon 5350 for both of mine and not the 5150s. Now gaming.... well... lets just say they're better for media boxes and forget that idea. I upgraded them later with RX 550 4GB GPU's, with this GPU you could do basic-mid range gaming on titles that were available at the time, not AAA titles to be sure! You could try the RTX 3070, but with the PCIE 2.0 x4 bandwidth (Max 2.0GB/s) I wouldn't bother! It would probably run about the same due to Nvidia driver overheads🤣 You would probable improve the performance by swapping out the two RAM sticks for a single 16gb DDR 1600 stick and overclock the CPU, GPU and RAM, these 2.0 quad core CPU actually ran very cool due to their cut down specs and even with everything overclocked to the max, with an after market AM1 cooler the system I last played with still ran pretty cool and quiet fully overclocked. Oh the 2.0Ghz 5350 was considerably faster than your 1.6Ghz 5150, built one with 5150 for low power media centre, returned it for 5350, the reason as you found out is the result of this video! Like your sense of humour and patience!

I used an Athlon 5350 as a mediaplayer some years ago and it did a good job at this. It is actually still sitting on my desk running Linux, because i didn't want to part from the system since it is able to run from a simple DC-Powersupply and it's not wasting too much space. Regarding the Cinebench results: I did run Cinebench R20 on a dual core Celeron 847 and it got 148 points in multicore and 77 points in single core.....

Might be okay with a lightweight Linux distro for basic use but not really anything else, to be fair many PCs aren't meant for gaming. MX Linux was mentioned and I think it might be a good fit, I've used it before and it works great with low-end hardware.

Yikes, that CPU is abysmal in performance... Kinda reminds me of the mobile AMD-E series of APUs, which were just as bad, if not worse. Some A4s were pretty bad also. If the CPU can be upgraded, it'd be worth it - if not, sell the motherboard and re-purpose the case. You could try using it as an XP retro system, if there were drivers for it, but to be honest a decent core 2 duo or core 2 quad would probably work just as well, if not better.
@HappyBeezerStudios
@HappyBeezerStudios Жыл бұрын
He could get an Athlon 5370 for it. Which is the same thing, but with 2.2 GHz instead of 1.6, so not really much a difference. And for XP, even if there are drivers (which doesn't seem the case), I'm not sure what such a slow quad core would be good for. Games that really want a quad also run fine on Win 7 and (mostly) 10, and games that really do better on XP, will be better with a faster dual core. Any Core 2 Duo, Athlon X2 and similar. Or even something like an i3-2130 or i3-3250, Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge are fully supported under XP. That would probably be the fastest dual core setup for that purpose.

do you think my pentium dual core e6300 is faster than this ? Sometimes my games ran so poorly that it's make me doubt the cpu, but then i turn my eyes over to the intel gma 3100... I'm thinking of buying a gt730, don't want to bottleneck the card even more with the pci-e bus 1.0 so i could get a core 2 quad afterward, i'm afraid the 420 watts psu might not be enough though
@Jimster481
@Jimster481 Жыл бұрын
@@lord_khufu Try to look for an R9 285 or a 7870Ghz or a HD 7770. Those will all do alright in your system. You should upgrade to atleast a core2 Duo though or just build an entire new system piece by piece. Your E6300 is faster in some cases but slower in other cases. The thing is that these chips use single channel DDR3 which is pretty slow, it is their main bottleneck problem.
@Mini-z1994
@Mini-z1994 Жыл бұрын
@@lord_khufu The e6300 is slower, the Athlon 5150 is slightly above a core 2 duo e8400 performance wise. If the motherboard supports that bios mod (DDR2 motherboards from like Asus, Gigabyte etc.. not old oem pc from like hp, dell, acer etc...) Even if you are on a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking & maybe only 1333 fsb processors like the core 2 duo e8400 mentioned. Trying the bsel tape mod could be worth doing on that cpu of yours. Should push it closer too a core 2 duo e6600 doing that going from 1.8 ghz too 2.3 ghz. Going for a socket 771 Xeon e5450 (basically a cheaper core 2 quad q9650 performance wise.) Could be worth looking after if you can't afford swapping platform too socket 1155 or newer after your gpu upgrade, id imagine it should be like 10$ and shipping costs from aliexpress or similar. The gt 730 has multiple versions btw 2 terrible & 1 better, though... My HD 5770 i bought in 2010 is better then the fastest version of the gt 730. The processor will hold the graphics card back more then the pci-e bus as well btw. Which also is odd that it's 1.0 ? Could be worth getting a gtx 750 ti or gtx 650 ti over the gt 730 as well, much faster cards then the 730 even if they cost a bit more used. Also what is your motherboard ? Could find out with cpu-z if you get the portable version of that program, which can also tell if its pci-e 2.0 or 1.0 you got.

GPU rendering I assume? Because I wouldn't throw anything on that CPU like that. If I needed a render machine for basically no money, I would grab a cheap Core 2 Quad or Athlon/Phenom X4. Yes, they draw more power, but they're also done quicker, which means they can turn off to draw *no* power earlier.

I noticed that super glue doesn't really hold plastic on plastic in that application. But what works is giving it some other material to bond with. Like toilet paper or tissues. A little bit around the broken seam and then super glue on it.
