I have to say... my favorite part was John being so completely tongue tied and nervous when he meets Jocko. My 11-year-old looked EXACTLY the same when he got to meet John Cena. Exactly the same look and almost exactly the same ability to speak and think. You have to laugh when you realize even the biggest guy has someone that can make them turn into a little boy. You just have to love when guys of any age meet their hero/idol/mentor - it's a truly honest moment. Great stuff... and a great project. Thanks for sharing.

These guitars are coming out better and better. My recommendation for next on your list is Adam Savage. Maybe not a guitar, but hell, why not. A resin guitar filled with miniatures of films he’s worked on, or pieces of old “artifacts” from Mythbusters. He’s impacted so many people, myself included, with his films, his shows, and his KZbin series. He’s the reason why I am not afraid to dive head first into any type of project in front of me. Keep up the great work!

I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but you asked for ideas so here it goes. My best friend and I were in the Marines together, we deployed twice together. I got out a few years ago, but he became an Army officer. He recently was deployed to Afghanistan but had to come home early due to his mothers passing. I really want to do something nice for him. I was thinking about a coffee table shadow box. Wondering if you could do some plans with that Malecki flare we know and love.

Sam and John have loads of experience talking to the camera and to fans and teaching people how to do things in the maker world and John's probably had his fair share of fans coming up to him doing the "stuttery/scared/nerves/this is my all time idle" voice from when he played football, but it's so cool how they both go straight into that scared little fan mode that must be built into our DNA or something. The reason I think it was cool is that it shows that no matter who you are and what your life experience is, there is always this little person inside you that has a pin up poster of this awesome hero that they would do anything to meet. You guys rock!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I build guitars constantly. The finish work is my favorite part (i buy unfinished kits and do refinishes of already built guitars, haven’t built from scratch yet) and it’s by far the most fun hobby I’ve ever found. And it got me into wood working and i just built a bench for our entry way. It’s a great gateway!

The most likely reason for the one particular layer of resin not hardening is probably because it wasn't mixed or ratio'd properly. Also, when doing multiple layers like that, instead of waiting until the prior layer fully cures and then scuffing it, it's actually better/easier to pour the next layer when the prior layer is still tacky. Better adhesion between the layers and you won't end up with lines.

When laminating epoxy, it's best to scuff the top of the layer that you are pouring onto. This gives the epoxy something to bond to and should help prevent delamination.

John that was a killer guitar. My own personal hero is Alex O'Loughlin from the show Hawaii Five 0. He's an Australian actor who played Steve McGarrett on the show. He is an absolutely beautiful human being who has done loads of charity work for the American Donors, Blood drive, ALS to name but a few. He has started a diving company with some Navy SEALs that he actually trained with every year for this role. He always has time for his fans as he has stated on many occasions "without them I wouldn't have a paycheck!" He also has raised so much money for the local hospital on Oahu by holding Womens self defense classes with his BJJ trainer Egan. It would be fantastic if you were able to do a guitar for him as he's a guitarist as well. Maybe using police badges in the epoxy or anything else that comes to mind. His wife is Malia Jones the surfer!

Nothing to do with off-gassing, resin will set underwater if mixed in the correct ratios. The problem is you did not mix all of the separate layers to the same ratios and would not have used enough hardener and it will take quite a bit of heat to force it to cure, you could put it in an oven at 60°c for a few hours and it may force a full cure. Also if you allow the resin to get too cold during the cure it can stall and never go beyond the rubbery phase.

With the SG pickup wiring tunnel to the volume and tone pots and again to the jack; consider using heat shrink tubing, like you see with electrical wiring's insulation, as like a placeholder bc alot of products for electric wiring I've used have a shrink temp of 70° to 115°C (158° to 239°F). Well above the 20° to 25°C ambient room temp. and maximum temp. during the exothermic reaction of the epoxy resin's hardening process. I think they're made out of either rubber or like a polyurethane mixture either way even if it gets stuck to the epoxy you could stick a is heated metal rod through to shrink it. Actually the weight of the resin could colapse the tubing so maybe already have the metal rod in place when you pour, with something else disposable to fill the gap between the two like a straw. I wouldn't recommend cutting the length of wire off the and just putting it in position before the pour bc each end would increase the number of points of signal degradation and potential loss of signal if a single wire connection becomes dislodged with the beating guitars often take over the years its all but inevitable. Just a thought
