“I can’t be consistent” - thank you!! 🙏🏼 It’s such a waste of time to insist a brilliant creative brain work against itself.

This is exactly my experience right now trying to build an online business on the side whilst working 9-5. I got very frustrated after the first month that I didn't have the energy to get certain tasks done and I started feeling behind on things and overwhelmed. I thought it was because of my 9-5 job draining me. But I've noticed that by doing things my way and prioritizing what works for me and my brain, I actually have the energy to follow through with tasks and be more consistent! 😅

Oh my goodness. I so relate... Not wanting to get fired again, being authentic, doing things your own way...and I also can't do the whole "thumbnail first ". I wanna feel the subject 😅

So many failures that the history is overwhelming. I have always been told that ADHD folks are resilient because they have had to learn how to pick themselves up over and over but, I am finding it hard to do that any more. I don't trust my follow through mostly. An idea can literally go from "This is brilliant!" to "That's dumb" in a matter of hours. I attribute it mostly to a lack of self confidence in my ability to execute.

Thanks for these reminders. I'm currently drowning in developing my social media plan & was trying to force myself to plan months in advance to "make it easier..." but the overwhelm was just too much. This was a good reminder that I can do things "my way" and still have success.

There's gold in this video! "let it be messy" - wow. Downside of a late diagnosis > I'm sad that I've spent so many DECADES trying to put a square career peg in a round hole, but still look forward to a different/better future. Your authenticity shines brilliantly, Karen, happy to be on board > I'll take "authentic you" any day of the week over "consistent you"! :)

So relatable. I’m 59, work a crappy but sometimes entertaining job, have several businesses I’ve started and put on the shelf. I also have a quirky KZbin channel that I have yet to niche. I have yet to figure out a system that works for me.

As someone with ADHD, I can totally relate to everything you said! I've learned the hard way that I love making well-thought out plans and schedules, and I get more done when I totally ignore them. When I instantly act on a "great idea", I get more accomplished.

That was the worst thing ever happened to me as well, I followed steps from Indeed for organization, priorities, and time management and you really need to be careful sometimes, I became an A type person and not even succeeded at it because it wasn''t me, more than that type A people get heart diseases and it makes sense, so imagine forcing yourself to something you're not

I'm 💯💯💯 the same way with the title/thumbnail, it feels impossible to make that "first" before creating the actual video. Glad to know it's not just me!! 😅😅😅

I’ve been doing KZbin for six months now and am finding exactly this. There is so much I don’t have figured out yet but that doesn’t mean I haven’t studied and listened to others or tried a tonne of things. I feel like I have to trust that it’s helpful and trust myself to try new stuff all the time. That can be conflicting. Oh, and I love your lighting!

Because of all the content out there, we’ve never lived in a paint by numbers business strategy world like we do now. And I completely agree. If you look at some of the most interesting and fun companies today when they started their business, they did not know how to do it or how it was supposed to be done. They followed their intuition. They did things differently, and that brought them success. Many of those entrepreneurs when they sell the company or someone takes it over or when they learn more about how it is supposed to be done, those companies stagnate and the entrepreneur‘s life becomes very very boring. When I started my business, I really did not know how it was supposed to be done and I figured it out and that journey was very exciting. Now if I want to start something new and I look and I know now what is supposed to be done? I don’t want to start. There’s something exciting about just diving in with just enough information and following your heart as opposed to consuming so much content about how you supposed to do it and then it just feels like a drag and then every step feels like you’re just doing what you’re told. You are almost working for a boss , so part of the entrepreneurial spirit is being different and taking that risk. Thank you for making this video. Lots of other great thoughts that you gave that inspired me.

You are speaking to my soul here. ❤ the KZbin thumbnail thing for sure. I quit filming almost a year ago because I burnt out. Now I have a new business and I do not miss being somewhere from 8-5/5 days a week around people I don’t necessarily want to see everyday. It was exhausting.

Bizarre? Coincidence? Both? Had this exact same thought earlier today (even prompted me to make a note of it) and your video pops into my feed. I likened it to the bajillion recipes online on how to make pizza dough, fried chicken, you name it. There are many ways, the trick is finding what works best for you. Just like not every job is for you, not every formula/framework/method is for you.

Having to feel like doing it. Oh! Yes! That is sooo necessary and true for me. I have thought long and hard how to game this, and I have found a few techniques that works. Many of them comes down to priming myself with the idea. Kind of tricking my brain to think it wants to do it. I can get primed spontaneously by chance, a new idea pops up in my head, or it is a deliberate walk towards the thin I want to do. And that can be a long walk.

I love your videos. They make me feel so much more normal. I'll be honest tho, I'm terrified of starting a business. I don't want to get into it and find I hate it, OR that it becomes what I experienced in the corporate world which left me burned out and unemployed for far too long now. How does one start to sort all this out?? I love NOT working because it makes life so much easier but I can't do this forever. I'm running out of money, although it'll take awhile yet, but I'm also NOT thriving....which i know I do when I have a steady stream of income.

regarding the YT thing it's not about rules or consistency in my opinion. It's because YT has evolved into this attention vacuum cleaner. those rules are for people who don't have a passion - their goal is to win the race. So they would choose whatever subject is in trends and make it as if they deeply care about the subject. When you can't choose it doesn't apply. If I studied and practiced music for 20 years, wat's the point in starting talking about AI just to get views.

Great advice. Except one thing - calling people who are different than us a herd. It works for the herd, it may not work for us, the creative, different types. Everybody is different in some way.
@CarenMagill2 күн бұрын
The herd mentality is a metaphor for what the majority are doing - it's not an individual label.
