Nice work. My one gripe would be the roll cage. You removed all of the triangulation while making the vehicle much heavier. In a rollover, it’s just going to collapse.

Not sure where your at on the engine upgrades. I built a '75 CJ5, I used a 4 bolt pre '86 small block chevy (comp cam, high rise intake, headers ect.) using a trans adapt bellhousing to bolt up to the stock transmission. I used a ford clutch disc and a chevy pressure plate. It worked great I had plenty of bottom end torque all the way to redline. It was setup for the sand dunes, I could spool the tires to 35+ mph in 4x4. the 4bt weighs nearly double that of a LS & has half the rpm range. I wanted to do a diesel swap but the added weight would not have worked well in the sand or mud. Nice build

I would put the either an LS or a 4 cyl cummins. You could do the turbo but the main thing holding the 4.0 back is the crossflow heads. My dad swapped in an iron block 5.3 LS into his 1985 cj7 and was super happy with it.

I have an old j10 and cool thing about them is the front dif is obviously over to one side for the transfer case but so is the rear, so the it can all be in line. You should try looking into finding one for the rear so you dont have to have you drive shaft as such an awkward angle
@nrd2143

I've had the privilege of swapping, working on, and driving cummins and LS jeeps and Landcrusier. Personally I like both of the engines, they both have there ups and there downs, but I recommend the LS. The LS is cheaper and you can run into any auto parts store and get anything you need for it because they most likely have the parts. The fuel mileage is also very surprising we've had LS Landcrusier beating out 4BT swapped Landcrusiers in the mpgs. For off-road use the LS is also very good because the all torque is there instantly, with the 4bt the turbo has to spool so it's kind of a pain sometimes in off-road applications. But either way you go I will be excited to watch you build it. You truck is really cool and you deserve a lot more subs for your creativity and ingenuity. Keep up the good work!

Cummins 4-cyl diesel for sure! Otherwise, the LT V6 platform? Nearly 300 bhp and 300+ lb ft of torques. A bit lighter than the LS V8 and some advanced tech you might like.

Really cool build. That Cummins diesel idea sounds pretty great. You'd have incredible low end torque, improved fuel economy, and with the 4 wheel configuration in the back, you'd be able to make the truck into something of a towing monster I would imagine.
@GreenLantern814
@GreenLantern814 3 жыл бұрын
Add a Jeep guy, I loved seeing this. Owned a 2000 Wrangler, but always wanted a Jeep truck. Your Cummins swap idea should work out great, though you may need to mess with spring ratios to keep it level. Keep in mind there was at least three stock coil-over ratios: front, light rear, and a hard rear for factory hard top models. Experimenting with them could help you keep the suspension in Jeep parts and give a good all around ride. Good luck dude!

I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma that I want to do this to! There are kits from Australia- but they are pricey. I was even considering having a lazy rear axle to avoid the extra complexity but using the 205 TC is a great solution and being able to choose what wheels are driven is neat too. Nice work!
@DClairRobinson
@DClairRobinson 3 жыл бұрын
Have you considered running some kind of gear case or chain case system for each side, linking the tandems together using a single axle and differential? This would eliminate the need for a second transfer case and driveline for a second rear axle. Pivoting bogie gearcases that swivel at the axle ends would also give you superior ground engagement over tandem axles, which are limited significantly by the vehicle rigidity. It would also be far smoother traversing small obstacles because you transfer your climbing travel distance from the wheel centers to the center (or pivot point elsewhere if asymmetrical cases) of the chain case cutting relative motion for each object in half
@ahobimo732
@ahobimo732 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely awesome work, but I'm not a fan of the design of the rear fenders. It looked much better to me in the shots where the rear frame was completely exposed. I think maybe a wider box that sits above the rear wheels would look better. Or perhaps an individual fender for each axle?

Man this thing is sick I really wished this was a project you documented for You Tube because this would of put your channel firmly on the map. I absolutely love this vehicle. I have never been a jeep junkies like many but I have always respected the vehicle and what it can do but man this is the jeep that should have been. You are an amazing engineer/fabricator mechanic. I love the F1 car as well but I only knew of this build because I seen it in the background of the F1 build just the rear end and I had to know more. I want to do this same build it a head turner for sure and I’ll bet you can climb up a tree if needed.
@Ghost63123
@Ghost63123 3 жыл бұрын
Wesley, how about swapping the backmost axle with the front axle from a Jeep. Just remove the steering knuckles or fix it to not steer. Thereby you can eliminate the extreme angle on the prop shaft you currently have from the Dodge transfer case, because of the offset differential. I agree on the remark about the Toyota V8 diesel. It is a monster of an engine, and more or less bullet proof as well.

how's the turning? How's the scrubbing. I am in the process of doing exactly that build using a 1998 Suzuki Vitara/Sidekick 4 door 4x4. I am turning it into a four door 6x6 with a pickup bed. My one issue was with the transfer case to run the rear wheels. I was in fact wondering if i could reverse the transfer case and i see you have done exactly that successfully. My other option was to simply power the RR set of wheels only. Nice to see someone has done the exact same thing i had in mind and it works.

I honestly think I would just do a stroker kit on the 4 0 and be done with it. Ive got a supercharger on mine and being a 3 6 it makes ok power, I know a lot of crawling will he lost with this set up but your traction should be significantly better, I would look into lockers and upgrades on the front axle as it will now have significantly more stress on it than oem. Its a good looking build

Have you though about getting a tank tread for the rear? Like they put on the old duces and 1/2. Also been have you ever seen the Mercedes-Benz OM606 engine they are mechanical diesels and with stock internals not even opening them up change the injector pump and turbo for a 500hp swap and all the diesel torque. But tune it for 300hp and have it last forever. Only a start wire it has a mechanical shut off so simple swap

They make a pass though ford 9 inch, (yoke on both sides), or the way i made a 6x6, witch was a chain box on the yoke of middle axle witch gave me a rear facing yoke on top of the pumkin to drive the back axle. Both of these would be lighter, and less drag than what you have now, at the cost of full time drive of the back two axles.

A diesel is a great swap but not for Wheeling. They have such a limited RPM and torque band. Just as you get in the power you over rev and need to shift. A Boosted 4.0 would be the most reasonable and a 6 speed is in order. I know a newer LS with the 6 speed would be awesome. Great Rig as is.
