One thing that I liked about the screens on gameboy back in the day was they became more visible in brighter sun light. Something I wish my galaxy note 9+ did. It be a great way to save battery life if it could use external light as it's back light when you were outside in bright light and use a internal back light when indoors

Pretty sure the only reason there were tri-wing on the outside is because they didn't want most people to get in, as I would assume at the time most people didn't have a tri-wing screwdriver. Phillips are on the inside just for ease.

Yours is the first time I’ve seen someone do the desolder method to do a Pocket backlight... but skipped right over how to do it in detail. Do you happen to have a video where you get into how to do that ribbon cable desolder and desolder? I’d attempt more Pocket backlights if that ends up working well for me. Thanks in advance! Also you made what is my personal favorite too! I have a silver Game Boy Light and a gold one too... but there is something about the Pocket that’s satisfying. Adafruit also has electroluminescent panels that can be trimmed to fit the application... but the voltage requirements need to be worked through. Last but not least a deep debt of gratitude to you... 🙏 I’m the guy behind all of Hand Held Legend’s social media, videos, tech support, product strategy, and all kinds of things. Your video here is awesome and the shout-out very kind. I’ll be sharing out your video tomorrow on our channels!

You can do a backlight mod for Game Boy Advance, as well. It involves less soldering, but some shell modification. You essentially drop an AGS-101 screen in there, and it looks really sharp. I really like mine a lot, and it'd be cool to see you do one at some point.

I suspect you want/need a bivert mod to improve the contrast on the backlit screen. From what I read, you might also want/need a 5V step-up transformer as well to ensure the backlight remains evenly-lit and works with EverDrives.

its a nice mod but expensive .... if you are not a purist you can use a GBA SP to play or if you like the feel of the Gameboy pocket buy a GB boy colour ... its a knockoff but it has a backlit screen and its "ok" for the most part. A GBA SP goes for like $25-$35 depending on location and if you shop around , a gb boy colour goes somewhere in the $35-$45 range both options a lot cheaper than this.
