Sims 2 really did have the best apartment system. Completely-customizable apartment lots, up to 4 playable households in one lot (the rest will have unplayable townies live in them), it was the best.

I really hope in The Sims 5 that we get the ability to zone areas- like we can have a lot with we can zone some of it as a retail store, a section as a cafe, and a section as residential. I would love to be able to create apartments above stores and have sims actually have it as their primary address. It would allow us to build our own apartment blocks, and we could separate the areas using this sort of method. Building custom apartments are always so fun! Thoroughly enjoyed this video!

An apartment lot type I think would be easy to implement. It still wouldn't be like San Myshuno at all but they could like have some simple math tied to the bills, so like when you're building the lot in the menu you would select how many apartments there are, and divide the bills by that number. So if your bills were for example $800, but you're living on an apartment lot with 4 apartments, you would only have to pay $200. It'd also work well for duplexes and townhouses, or even just regular houses with roommates, since the roommates are kind of sort of freeloaders who occasionally give you their pocket change and call it rent. They could also like you know how on a scale you can like place like a bowl or something on it, and then set it to zero so it only measures anything you add after that point? A system where you could set the lot cost to zero after building the apartment, and the other apartments you aren't using would work well too. Or it couldn't be easy, because I don't know how coding games works lol.

​@@alicynsenior4952 I don't think it's completely dumb since people are playing in these fake apartments currently and just pretending they're real, but it is dumb that EA couldn't just implement an apartment building feature in the first place which restricted apartments to only two worlds (at first we thought San Myshuno would be the only apartment world). Either way it's just a simple idea to make people's gameplay a little easier, it'd probably work better as a mod rather than an actual implementation to the game anyways since EA would likely get backlash for not just letting us build apartments in the first place. :D

if you're looking for a cheaper way to buy those packs, i use CDKeys which sells the codes for packs cheaper than EA and i've never had any problem with it :)

There's actually a trick you can use to place multiple elevators on the same lot, by simply using a room with the elevator from the Gallery. I think it's even functional, meaning Sims will use them to get to other elevators on the lot, although they're sadly not animated and Sims will simply phase in and out. And it doesn't check whether each elevator is lined up into a single column either, so make sure there's only one elevator on each floor, each of them lined up with each other.

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of buildings and I wish that my apartment building had at least one small community room. Also, the mailboxes are on the outside irl bc mail people can't come in. And every apartment floor tends to be the same exactly although people do get to pick their own floor so every floor is different. But I'm in another country and I guess I don't live in Miami ☹️

Well, I think it's pretty realistic since there are many apartments where you need to walk up four floors. Theres still so many without lifts. And in my student apartment I need to walk across the whole campus to get to the laundry room. So in conclusion, your build is perfect ^^

I'm experimenting with whether my sim can make a living just as a boarding house landlord. From what I've seen roomies pay about 1/3 of the lot's rent. I've made a 'boarding house' lot with 6 'rentals', one master br (for the sim I play), and a bunch of communal activity rooms (pool, gym, TV etc). Roomies definitely have troubles managing their needs and threaten to move out if they're not met. However, they do leave the lot at least once per day and refresh (most?) their needs and come back with a plate of food. I *suspect* can can have them manage their need better through having them all in a club with the right activities.

Idea for how to make apartment work: How about build a building old NYC style meaning. You go up the stairs and the entire floor is one apartment and it’s only one door to each apartment. Build like 3 . Add 3 roomates, lock each outside door to the specific sim only. So when the other sims do come home they can only go through the one door so everyone has their own space.

A lot of apts in NY have medium to tall walls. The tall walls are usually reserved for high end apts. So the wall heights in San Myshuno look normal to me. Same goes for the size.

I tried the locked doors system, worked great for 1 week in the sims and then just turned into chaos after because even with locked doors they could still go into each other’s apartments and make food or use laptops in someone else’s

Can you use the City Living elevator in custom made houses? Sure it will act as a spawn point but so what. You don't really need the first floor as the apartments in City Living don't have them either. Also an idea: make the ceilings of un-used floors higher. And since TS 4 allows to move windows up and down, you can place the windows to match standard floor levels. If you made floors 1 and 2 as high as you can, you can then place windows in the fake position to mimic as if there are more floors. You would then get an apartment building with maybe 6 floors. Also delete the appliances and furniture from any un-playable apartments as they still cost money. Maybe you could try one time with a future apartment build? It would be really cool. I hope this could work I haven't seen anyone try.

Idk if they patched it, but there’s a way to use multiple elevators. Build your first elevator and put it inside of a small room, then copy that room and place it on each floor. It will copy the elevator as well, which will allow you to place multiple elevators. When you try to leave the lot, it’ll give an error that you’ve got too many elevators BUT you can go to options, manage worlds, go to manage worlds and it should let you leave the lot that way. Then you can save outside of the lot in manage worlds. I haven’t tried it but I’ve seen people do this in videos successfully. They’re fully functional, so you can traverse multiple floors using them. It’s ridiculous you have to do work around like this when functional elevators were just a thing in earlier games with no issues.
