When I used to play Minecraft I also used the Millenaire mod. One of the things I''d do was to convert the Norman and Mayan mine pits into subways, by digging tunnels that led into a minecart track network which would then link the NPC village to whatever site I chose.

A simple minecart station is a one block high cactus with a slab on top. Put the powered rail on a hopper going into a barrel.

As much as i loved watching the episode. Avoiding the hardcore death like that using an exploit feels wrong. Those invincibility frames are meant to allow the world to load and not have players instantly die to something because of lag. While you avoided the death, i feel like you should start anew.

My favorite way to travel long distances is with nether portals, but I think im just going to make a Minecart rail system for now. It depends on how far you need to go. For example my spawn is 0,0 where base and everything is, but the end portal and stronghold is 2,000 blocks away from me. I use a portal for getting there faster. For things under 1,000 blocks, i like minecarts actually. I have ultra fast flying kit , but why not make them.
