Her computer desk setup is clean... NOW. You get all kinds of stuff in there in no time and ain't nobody got time to clear that out every time. Also, art projects usually mean paints, glue and many other possible contaminants, you really don't want any of that around the computer.

If you are going to do pulleys, you really need to be using wire cable, not rope. The issue is not just the friction, it is the ropes stretching.
@hallambaker
@hallambaker 2 күн бұрын
If you do switch, you will need to replace the delrin pulleys with metal. I put quite a bit of thought into this while planning the hanging of my 11 foot Star Trek Enterprise hero prop in the garage. Probably will be the same weight as your bed. You tube vids of people making various heavy systems all go with wire cables.

I really like the pulldown bed above the table idea! It's a gerat way to combine the "empty space" requirements of 2 parts of the room into 1. (empty space above the table, so you have good access to whatever you have there, and empty space above the bed, so you can get in the bed)
@AbbyDoesZArt
@AbbyDoesZArt Күн бұрын
You could make it so that the railing on the bed folds down so that you could still have your legs over the side if you wanted for gaming and movies and stuff(but it would obviously have a lock on it like the bed does so it doesnt just fall down)

Not going to lie, your courage to cover up the peg holes on the shelves is terrifying...I often have to move the height on some of my shelves because not every book fits, or i need to put larger figures on them etc. Martina, you are a chaotic being and thats fascinating. I was thinking, for that ONE troublesome drawer you have under the table, why not cut out an smaller rectangular hole in the side of it (like some 5cm around the edge below the rails/above the base) so you can pull it open and then just rummage through it? Seems easier than just having to snake your hand into it through the top opening.

This video came at exactly the right time! I recently moved and had to put my office, a guestbed and my art supplies all in one now very cluttered room. I felt a bit discouraged by the amount of stuff, but now I'm more confident I can make it work and have a beautiful and functional room. I won't be building a pulley system, but am definitely going to turn the guest bed into a bunk bed with lots of storage underneath. The ceiling isn't high enough to put the desk underneath the bed, but I always need more storage so this is perfect.

A few points I noticed that I thought I'll mention here: 1. As many have pointed out, do not use ropes. Not reliable. Also have failsafe in case a cable, pulley or a frame holder pops. 2. Hopefully the monitor won't interfere with your bed frame when it's lowered in the future when you may upgrade it. Different monitors come with different heights that may or may not be adjustable. Also the viewing angle seems kinda low for a normal desk. 3. You can put channels across the outer edges of the bed frame and at the top, then run straps top down on those channels. With this the straps will be slidable to either sides so that they won't interfere when you're watching something on the projector, will fold whenever the bed frame is up, and will avoid people falling off when sleeping.

For the hard to use drawer under the desk, I would suggest removing the drawer itself and use the drawer's face panel as a hinged lifting door. This would let you place large awkward items in the second highest drawer. You could also crawl under the desk to see the contents of that second drawer closer to the wall if something is obscuring your view

Martina: I completely understand the problem estimating time needed to accomplish, well, anything. I have ADHD, and one of my symptoms is called "Time Blindness." It's an actual phenomenon that a lot of creative people have to deal with, as we tend not to account for travel time, preparation time, the duration of a given task, or cleanup time with any accuracy. However, I do have a wonderful wife who regularly gives me reminders about budgeting time; from the video, it sounds like Hansi tries to help you out in the same way.

It turned out soo sick. Like the whole room, your pc, and everything has one cohesive style and it looks soo clean. I love how much consideration you put into utilizing every space you could too. Aside from that, I had a thought, for those top drawers immediately beneath your desk. You could do a u-shaped cut out of the side to make it fairly more accessible without impairing the structural stability of the drawer. Or swap the sideboard of the drawers with a couple L-brackets instead. Then they'd function like shelves when you open them.

I don’t know why but I expected this room to go full medieval fantasy or cyberpunk aesthetic but this is so pretty I’m obsessed with this! I only wonder about the railing because if you have it, it would be difficult to use this bed as a couch, though as always I’m sure you have an idea for that too. I would love to see what you do with the railing! Also, Nori acting like he’s the one who did all the work and just napping around the whole room is super cute. I see you discovered the "Löwenzahn" bed for yourself (because its similar to the bed Peter Lustig builds for himself in the TV series Löwenzahn). My one reservation with the setup of this kind of bed, as cool as it is, is the possibility of one of its parts breaking and the whole thing falling down, so I'd be far too afraid to keep expensive stuff, like computers, under there.

I think she has physical stops there, that prevent the bed from going further down. 🤗😇 I did worry about the monitor at the beginning, but it looks fine now, from a different angle. I don't love that you see the underside of the bed /slats - maybe she could cover that up with not see trough fabric, so it's still breathable? That's only the perfectionist in me though, the rest looks so amazing and definitely her style. 😎🤣

for the moving bed you could use the modern standing desk motors that pushes them up and down there should be some for your weight amount :)

IT WAS WORTH IT! OMG This is simply the best organization of such a room. I'm shocked that you guys did it yourself! FROM IDEA TO IMPLEMENTATION, EVEN SUCH A CLEAR REFERENCE! I have great admiration for people who know exactly what they want!

Love this. It reminds of your old videos when you guys did more home projects like that secret room. I too made a room that's my gaming/TV/art... but changed to office due to COVID room. I too used Ikea furniture for the legs of the desk. I even ran into the exact same problem you have with not getting much access to the top drawer under the table top. I swapped it out for shelves and a door. You guys can go that extra mile of using the drawer fronts as the door, so it doesn't change the aesthetics.

What I really like about these videos is the setup, Martina’s hair dye, and the final results. So beautiful😌

My new years resolution this year was to 'Remove friction from the things I love doing' and seeing this concept with the two desks for gaming and art was incredibly satisfying. I like to say keeping a guitar in every room is good luck, but really it just makes me practice more from convenience

For that one draw that is just under the computer desk maybe there are hinges that can make the draw front pull down flat so you can see inside better

For the top drawer, you could remove the drawer and make it a shelf. Not easy to access but you can keep things there you barely need, so it's less annoying to climb under the desk to fish them out

You've just observed a simple fact: Scandinavians like their Joe. It gets them up in the morning and surprisingly relaxes them at night before bed. Of course there's the mid morning and mid day cups. My ma was a Dane but Dad was adopted by Norwegians. Syttende Mai was a parade where the Swedes would line one side of the street and Norwegians the other side. One would throw fireworks at the other who in turn would run out into the street to pick them up, light them up and then throw them back again.

I think those 2 fancy coffee makers are at the studio. This video was filmed in her new home, not the studio. You would not want to be forced to carry your coffee maker back and forth between home and work and back again, every day now. Would you? LOL

Martina, I was thinking about possible solutions to that drawer under the desk that is kind of blocked. I think you could modify the top drawer to have a spring hinge on the bottom of the drawer face plate, so that when you pull out the drawer, you can flip the face down to allow better access.

The top drawers under the desk, you could take off the fronts and reattach them with hinges so you can still access the space.

If you cut your main work surface (left hand side) above the top inaccessible drawer and add two reversed hinges (with a hole to lift up as a catch) you could access the top drawer from this 😉 It will work .. ❤

To get better access to those drawers do like I did: I removed the top drawer and replaced it with shelf and then added baskets there. Easier to pull out and rifle throught them when they are on your desk than trying to fit hand in that small hole.

This is amazing! I have been considering getting/making a loft bed (but with stairs because ladders are a pain) for more storage, but this idea of being able to raise and lower the bed is genius too.

This reminds me of the bed/desk setup my dad built me. Makes me want to make something like that where I currently am but I think the room is too small. This design was really well thought through and looks like such a cozy space to hang out in!

There's something about multifunctional rooms that tickles my brain just right. The only things triggering my OCD are canvas doors opening "into" the room and not against the wall and the projector not being built into the top bed frame (but I completely understand that projectors need a lot of air to stay cool so it would probably require some additional fans). The idea for the sliding bed is honestly amazing.

just cut the side of the blocked drawer that's facing you, add a couple small hinges, a rudimentary frame and a spring or 2 and you're golden (OR make it a drawer in a drawer that pulls out perpendicular like those hidden puzzle furniture gags!)
