The smallrig mini matte box. It’s about $100 and comes with a bunch of adapter rings to mount it to the front of your lens. You can then use the front flap to help stop big lens flares when light hits your lens. Looks cool too

The brilliance in this piece is the thoughtfulness toward budget. Using NP batteries vs V mount saves bundles and weight in so many ways. Yes, it is overkill. But, damn this is a great little setup. So many great pieces. The FX-30 may be the perfect candidate for the setup.

Nice! On a sidenote, if you´re on a budget get the 18-105mm F4 Sony lens. I consider it the Sony Cinema Sleeper Lens. Yes it´s F4, but most of the time i wouldnt go faster anyway. The big pro is the power zoom (all internal), IS, great quality, it´s parfocal and really cheap. Imo the most versatile lens for any APS-C video cam or FF if you´re filming in crop mode on a budget.

l love the video, it's very good for your first video. You taught me something new about attaching the battery plate directly to a cheese plate instead of on rail rods. The rig looks awesome. love the way you light your space, however, I was thinking that the foreground could be a little brighter seeing that the camera rig is black, (it's no big prob though). my only drawback is your background music. It's nice and jazzy, but a bit too loud. It's actually competing with your voice. Overall I give your presentation 9 out of 10. Lower the volume in your next vid and it should be a 10 hands down. I will definitely like and subscribe. Keep up the good work.

This was fun! Trying to get back into shooting (and hopefully starting a channel of my own) so I ordered a ZV-E10. Say I'm desiring a cinematic vibe to my videos and I'm planning to grab maybe a Sirui 35mm anamorphic, can you explain why this rig would be overkill? Or maybe a better question would be: what would be a reasonable outfit for the ZV-E10 to help balance and trend it toward a cinematic vibe? Great first video, man. WOW!
@thomasjmcclure2 жыл бұрын
I think the Sirui 35mm is great for it, I’m testing that lens out this weekend in Boston and loving it so far. The reason i say it’s overkill is that the only things that actually change the image are the camera and lens. The rig helps some with stabilization, and the monitor helps for better framing etc. but it’s mainly about budget. If you have the budget to go all out with it then it’s a lot of fun. But i wouldn’t recommend someone break the bank over it

I loved seeing this in your first video. In fact I have a sony zv-e10 to be my camera in Streamings and for walks to take photos every day. When I saw this I was so impressed that I just bought the SmallRig cage hahahaha. I have Blackmagic 6k Pro, Sony a7IV and this little one. You got me to subscribe

Hi, thank you for this video. I'm looking to buy the Atomos Ninja V in order to both have an external monitor and improve my files quality but i was wondering. Can you record in Prores Raw from the ZV E10 in the Ninja or do you use another kind of file format while shooting?
@thomasjmcclure Жыл бұрын
Hey, so honestly i think for the cost, it’s hard to say that the ninja v is worth the money for a zve10, you cannot utilize ProRes raw no. I put it in that rig because i had one already that i used with my z-cam cinema cameras. If im filming with the zve10, i typically film 4K 24p, 100mbps in HLG3 and it works great!

I don't really agree with you when you say "don't rig the ZV-E10 it's over kill". I think cameras like zv-e10 are the ones that need to be rigged to get the best of them. Zv-e10 is just a body with a sensor and good autofocus. That's it. No IBIS, poor audio preamps, poor internal codecs, no internal NDs, poor battery life. To my pov, zv-e10 is a great camera to rig because with additional accessories you can get great results. You can improve your shooting experience: - no ibis => add some more weight - poor battery life => power it with a Vmount battery or power bank - no internal NDs => add VND or a mattebox to master your exposure - poor internal codecs => record PRORES 422 8bits Slog2 through hdmi on external SSD instead of 420 8 bits H.264 or H.265 on a single SD card without backup. - poor audio => use an external mic or better an MI-shoe compatible audio interface. Sometimes when I see some dudes rigging cameras with great capabilities such as internal 422 10 bits prores, or adding follow focus with autofocus lenses, or matteboxes when shooting indoor It makes me think they have been beaten by the hype of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome).
@thomasjmcclure2 жыл бұрын
I agree that rigging it up is beneficial for sure. I’d just say that rigging it with the parts that i used in this video, if you’re only buying it as your first camera, then it may be overkill, the total rig is worth over $3000, at which point, if you’re only starting, there’s better ways to spend the money

@thomasjmcclure Жыл бұрын
its not that it can improve the quality, but it adds a secondary recording option to SSD's in other Codecs, giving you a recording as well as the SD card in the camera, so if one file gets corrupted you can have a backup. Other cameras do support recording ProRes Raw onto the Ninja V but the ZV-E10 does not

Another doubt : i want to attach an external mic, a larger battery at the back, a headphone so as to hear the audio while shooting and a monitor. Is it possible to attach all these to the rig?
@thomasjmcclure Жыл бұрын
So I made a second “budget” rig for the zve10 much more recently, using a v mount battery, relying on auto focus lenses. Ended up getting that one down to just under $500. The best place for a mic is probably on top of the side handle, plenty of clearance so it won’t hit the monitor. I tend to record all my audio seperately, but you can easily add a cold shoe mount on top of the side handles
