Thats great! Been thinking about getting a lightweight billy to go with my big old 14cm Zebra billy but I thought I'd be using it to basically boil and drink from. Having a well fitting beef roast to do is genius! and having the veg basically positioned to cook in the juices, that's fantastic. I'm wondering if you can get away with a smaller pot in the bigger pot as a dry oven, I've tried a mini cake tin inside the 14cm billy to make bread buns, some balls of tin foil in the bottom to create a space to try and avoid a burned bottom kind of worked. Enjoying the channel immensely so far. Looking forward to having a go at some new recipes when I get out next. Chris.

VERY AMBITIOUS! BY THE WAY, LOVELY YORKSHIRE BISCUIT - VERY CRISP! I take my hat off to you. A brilliant experiment with a brilliant result. I'd never have dreamed that it would be possible. You have inspired. My camping days are nearing their end (in my mid 70s) but if I get the chance of a car camp, I'm going to take my unused Coleman camping oven and give it a go. I don't think I'd risk it in the wilds with the Triangle or the Mini but my Trangia 27 or 25 should be as good. Once again, well done.

@@OffTheBeatenPot Now then - your forcing me to be honest and realistic which is not too good for the pride. At my age, I’ll probably be cooking my roast at home and Mylar bagging it to any potential camp for re-heating. My Coleman oven is still in its box and I made a strong asbestos cloth ‘coat’ for it to keep in more heat and make the most of fuel. If you are truly interested, get in touch by non-KZbin. . Well done, excelent effort. The most adventurous I got with my Trangia is making cheese scones, they worked well but a full roast has insipred me to try more recipies. Did you cook the beef and veg on one fill of fuel or did you have to top up the burner part way through? Thanks.
@OffTheBeatenPot
@OffTheBeatenPot 5 жыл бұрын
I’m pleased to have inspired! I only had to refill the Trangia once in this whole process and it didn’t use two whole lots. Very economical on fuel given the right conditions. Cheese scones eh??? I might have to give those a try. Let me know what you come up with on the Trangia.
@chrisgreen8916

@@OffTheBeatenPot That is pretty impressive efficency from the stove. I have the larger trangia set. For cooking the scones, I put a few stones in the bottom of the larger of the two Trangia pans, placed the scones on a stainless steel lid from another camping pan set when I placed on the stones in the large Trangia pan and then put the trandia frying pan/lid on top of the large pan. The stones kept the stainless lid from touching the bottom of the Trangia pan and allowed hot air to circulate. I think I had the simmer ring on the burner. Took a while for the scones to cook. Hope that made sence.
