Great pilot! Absolutely want to watch more of it. Since you asked for some suggestions I have a couple. Firstly: I think you need to either add more to Clive’s personality or do a different voice. Because at the moment he really just feels like you in a different outfit. It works and there’s nothing really wrong with that. But considering how many different characters you play on your show I think it’s important but Clive has some more individuality besides his outfit. One thought I had that might set him apart a little bit from Linkara would be to give him a “co-host”. Not an actual actor, but a prop he can interact with. Like that Freddy manikin he greets at the start of the episode. Sort of like Mr. Lobo and Miss mittens from cinema insomnia, which I think would fit since I suspect you’re going for something inspired by horror hosts. Just a thought on how to differentiate him from your other characters. On a personal note that you can completely ignore but I felt I needed to share, the glasses are really cool, the idea of Lowering a lens for each feature I understand, but it looks really silly, I would recommend either not doing that or perhaps not cutting to Clive for jokes. But that’s just my personal opinion. Also, just an idea it might be fun to surprise viewers by not revealing what movies Clive is going to be looking at, maybe instead have the theme for the episode as the title? The movie titles will probably draw more people in, but I like to be surprised. Those are just my ideas, feel free to take them or leave them as you wish. No matter what I really enjoyed this pilot and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Put this on the comments on the site but reposting here too: For the pilot episode of a series, it seems like a good start and could fill a niche, even if it's only every so often, that I had to cut when I dropped Brad Jones from my watch list. However, there is something I feel would need to be addressed if this is to be ongoing: the Clive Sinclair character. Looks wise he's fine, with a different style than Linkara without being too out there. However, aside from that, it just seems like Lewis/Linkara in a different outfit. You may already have plans for this, but there's nothing that really stands out for him in personality and tone. Your other characters you play all have something that shows how they're different from you/Linkara. Even Linksano has had enough development to at least make him different than Insano (even if Linksano probably has had more appearances now thanks to Spoony's...retirement let's say). Changing the voice like others have suggested would be a start, but I think there should be something of a personality quirk that shows why we have this character and not just plain old Lewis or Linkara branching out.
@firefly4f44 жыл бұрын
I had similar thoughts; it really just seemed like Lewis talking about two movies. Granted, coming up with a different voice is probably a stretch -- that's a lot of narration to do with yet another voice -- but I do agree there does need to be something else to distinguish Clive from Linkara/Lewis. I do like this concept, though. Heck, even if it is just Lewis talking about the movies without the character, that's fine too :)

Since you asked for feedback, I really only have two notes. 1) Do more to developed Clive's personality as a host. Solid format. Since the concept is reviews of two films with related films, maybe a bit of compare/contrast instead of just having the reviews in isolation to make the two halves of the double feature feel more connected to each other, possibly as a conclusion segment, but even without that the format works nicely and the visual gimmick of flipping the lenses as you watch each is cute. One question I'd ask is what you're intent with this series is - "Here are some films you should/shouldn't see" in which case maybe tone down how detailed you get about the endings in particular, or "What is it these films tell us?" in which case up the analytical critique, because at the moment it feels a bit spoilery for consumer facing reviews and a very light on analysis for critique.

While there is some room for development, I admit, this was interesting. Clive works well as a character and a review host. Personality wise, he feels like a less angry/more grandiose Linkara. He seems to find more joy in what he’s doing compared to Linkara, who treats his job as more of, well, a job. A job he enjoys mind you, but a job nonetheless (it probably helps that the tag line of AT4W is “Where bad comics burn”, and I think anybody would get a little jaded after looking at enough bad material, especially considering works like “One More Day”, or “Holy Terror). On top of that, that same joy comes through in his tone and mannerisms; he’s very enthusiastic in sharing these films and what he thinks about them, and he lives to get your attention, kind of like a showman on a stage. This isn’t bad though; if anything, it helps carry the show as it draws the audience in and makes you interested in what he has to say! As for the review portion, I admit, it’s different, but interesting. The way Clive looks at the material kind of feels like a mix between how you review stuff for AQLA/your Top 15 lists, and History of Power Rangers, ie. Going over the important plot details as you need to, while going over individual points that either work for or against the films. I admit, it is a little different from what I’m used to from you, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Just different. Clive’s snark and humor also helps to sell the style too, making for very funny and appropriate riffs. Overall, while I feel the show still has room to grow, this first outing isn’t bad, and if you were to make more of this, I wouldn’t be against it! Also, the opening theme is catchy. Keep it! EDIT: One last thing I forgot to mention; I love Clive’s outfit! It’s kind of a strange inverse of Linkara’s normal outfit; primary colors on the jacket instead of the shirt, the primary color for him being red instead of blue, and a lack of a hat. Plus, I love the glasses. They’re eccentric, but fit the tone of the show.
