For the garden story, I had a neighbor that CONSTANTLY took "cuttings for propagation" from my plants that ended up being about 70 to 80% of the plant. I begged her to not do but caught her several more times, so I made a plan. I "gifted" her a Mexican Primrose. Lmao they spread like WILDFIRE through her garden and yard. She no longer steals my plants.

Nah OP made a mistake not pressing charges. Kids not complying is one thing, but the PARENTS violating your boundaries and trespassing with the kids? Press charges. And if there's not a temporary fence that doesn't harm the ground, there should be such a thing. That would be so good for rentals

Yep. With the amount of times OP had already warned them against trespassing, this was a no brainer. I have no clue why so many people cave and cave when it's clear the other party has no respect or care at all. What's the point? When I was a kid we would be warned not to do something. The second time was an automatic consequence after it was confirmed that we were aware of what we did when we did it. If kids can figure out boundaries, which they can and do every day (think school, friend's house, social gatherings etc), then why expect less from adults?

I low-key have this problem. The neighbourhood kids all hang around on the street and like to pet my dogs. Most of them are very good-natured, I just have to keep telling them not to feed the dogs snacks because I don't want the dogs to start harassing people for treats. There's one little boy who is an absolute little shit. He started off ringing the doorbell to ask us to take the dogs out early, and when my husband has made it clear that we are not an on demand entertainment service, he's taken to ding-dong-ditching. It's mildly annoying but tolerable. But yeah I have to keep telling the kids they're not allowed to come inside my house to play with the dogs. I don't want their parents worrying when they can't see the kids playing in the street and I don't really want other people's kids in my house. It's the opposite of child friendly.

The story with the trespassing kids reminds me of a reddit from last year. Kids were doing this to a neighbor, kept running into the neighbor's yard and trying to let the OP's cats out of the outdoor cat-condo. So, while the neighbor was away for six months the OP went paid a landscaper to plant several very large cacti plants and dog roses all along their (OP"s) chain link fence. Dog roses grow very quickly and have large, almost interlocking, thorns. By the time their neighbors returned, there was a hedge of dog roses and tons of thorny cacti all along the inside of OP's fence, so the kids couldn't get in. OP HAD tried just padlocking the front gate, but the brats would climb over the gate. LOL According to the reddit story, the neighbors first screamed at OP about the cacti when one of the kids came home all cut up after trying to get over the fence. Then, apparently, the neighbors called the cops several times claiming OP was "endangering the children of the neighborhood", and the neighbors were fined for constantly calling the cops w/o a reason, then they tried taking OP to court to try to get the court to force OP to remove the cacti and the dog roses, and they lost badly. And, because of it, the neighbors sold their house and moved.

Her house her rules, but with the invite she made a promise to the toddler which she then broke. Disgusting things come with little kids and no one is obliged to deal with it but a good aunt would choose to do so anyways. Just shows how little she is willing to sacrifice for their nieces and nephews which is ok and OP should lower the expectations towards this sister regarding the children. It's okay for her not to be ready for kids she didn't decide to get and she still can be a good sister without being a good aunt.

People saying she's making a big deal out of it aren't looking at it from a parenting perspective, a mother/father/guardian absolutely should speak up for the child even if it makes the adults uncomfortable. Dismissing the issue and no doubt countless other issues simply because the person being effected is to young to have authority is a shitty thing to do, itnseems like these people just don't want to deal with anything and it's easy enough to dismiss a small child. I'm all for OP being the mama bear here, unlike literally all the other adults in the story she's willing to put her own comfort and peace on the line.

In the final story the parents said, "it's not worth arguing with her," in that way that all enabling parents do when they don't want the hassle of the less rational person. I had to learn late in life that to get parents like this (my own) to side with me when I'm right, I had to show them that I could be just as much of a pain to them, and I could cause an even bigger fuss. The first time this happened, my mom must have been getting some guff later and called me to stand her ground (by that, I mean that she changed her stance) so I flipped my fucking lid and she suddenly didn't want to talk about it anymore, but did call me a week later to say that "yelling doesn't work with me, just so you know." Yeah. Okay. 30 years of being crapped on bc someone yelled while i talked says otherwise.

Outdoor cameras are really the way to go with entitled people. Cameras everywhere legal. Because we host an outdoor Halloween event for our community-we get a ton of people who just show up and go wherever they want in our garden way before the event because there is so much stuff to put out in advance-we could never get it all out in time if we didn’t start the last week of September. Because of this people show up all hours of the day and night the whole month of October. It’s common to open the door first thing in the morning and see someone walking through with their kids. I’ve opened the door in my robe and ended up basically face to face with a group of women walking through at 9pm and videoing the display. We of course put up signs but they come in anyway. To protect ourselves we’ve had to install cameras everywhere just in case something happens and we have to make sure that the display is very safe for the public and no one can get hurt on anything. Because they show up whenever they want, we have to cover all bases. I’m not kidding, we were literally right in the middle of pouring a concrete patio area when some chick showed up and let her kids run into the yard. We had a concrete mixer running and everything-rebar-you name it. Tools everywhere. She was like “don’t mind us we’re just looking through your Halloween stuff!” My husband and I just looked at each other like “wooooow.” People just don’t give a frick about boundaries 😂. I had to tell her to keep the kids away from the new concrete (as if I should even have to!) because she was letting them run amok. It was a matter of time until one stepped in it and she couldn’t have cared less.

Last story. I am not going to call OP the AH, because she probably doesn't understand why it is not a good idea to allow untoilet trained toddlers into the pool. I have a swimming pool, and I eventually had to make the same rule. It is true that swimming diapers don't hold much urine, poop, and especially diarrhea. Swim diapers are specially made to not take on a lot of water, so the diaper doesn't swell up and become a hazzard for the toddler. I had 2 instances where toddlers were in my pool while wearing swimming diapers, the first incident was plain poop. However, the second incident was very dangerous as it was diarrhea. If someone has diarrhea, that person can easily contaminate an entire aquatic venue. The germs that causes recreational water illnesses (RWIs) can be spread when swallowing water that has been contaminated with fecal matter. So, both times everyone had to immediately get out of the pool. The process to clean the pool takes anywhere from 30 minutes(for poop) and to 2 hours (for diarrhea). We had to bring the waters pH to 7.5 or less. Solid Poop: our pool is a 20,000 gallon pool and to disinfect it, we had to put in roughly 1/2 gallon liquid chlorine or 1 lb Granular Shock (Calcium Hypochlorite). Had to maintain 3.0 ppm free chlorine for minimum 45 minutes. Diarrhea Exposure: We required roughly 3 gallons liquid chlorine or 4 lbs of Granular Shock, and must maintain 3.0 ppm free chlorine for 2 hours. However, after those to incidents, we purchased a small 1 foot deep pool for any toddler. We still have to keep an eye out for any poop, but if it happend all we had to do was clean out the poop, empty the water, clean it with bleach, rinse and refil. That takes all of 10 to 15 minutes. So yeah, I 100% understand why Ava did not want the toddler in the pool because he wasn't potty trained. But, she is a bit of an AH because she didn't communicate ahead of time with OP that any kids not potty trained would not be allowed in the pool.
@MermaidsAreSpiritAnimals
@MermaidsAreSpiritAnimals Жыл бұрын
This! Those that don't have a pool, obviously would not know the dangers of fecal matter in the pool. They both are AHs. Ava for not relaying ahead of time about the rules, and OP for not wanting to respect the rules. I too have had toddlers poop in the pool while wearing little swimmers, and unfortunately it pretty much shut down the pool part of the pool party.

I wonder how many parents know this. Most I know don't have a problem with swim diapers in the pool, but at the same time, they're generally already potty trained and usually just use the swim diapers to prevent accidentally peeing because they just got done potty training. Sheesh, I was potty trained by 2.5 because my mom had to work from home and didn't have patience for diapers, so I learned super early. I was probably the only 5 year old in school who didn't have accidents or need a change of clothes brought. Now I just shake my head at some parents waiting so long to potty train. I substitute taught elementary for years and had to deal with a 5-7 year-old peeing in their seat at least twice a semester. And I was a sporadic sub. Heaven knows how many times the actual teachers had to deal with it.

What in the world does the sister think swim diapers are for? And the idea that kids just keep over at the sight of a pool is ridiculous. Obviously telling OP at the party was going to cause a scene, whether that was the kid who got all ready to swim starts crying or OP and son just left. @Nathan_Bookwurm
@Nathan_Bookwurm Жыл бұрын
While I agree with ESH on story 3, I just want to mention that it's not abnormal for a 3 years old to be in diapers still. Yes, most kids are earlier, but a lot of them are later. My oldest was done at her 2nd birthday, my youngest is now 5.5 and back into diapers after 3 years of trying (and having like 8 accidents per day for 3+ years straight) in his case his autism isn't helping, but I also know many kids without autism who aren't fully potty trained when they're 3. The doctor says it's a spectrum and normal until they're 6-7 years old. We don't know the circumstances of OP's toddler. He could have medical issues making him unable to be trained at 3. Or he's just a normal kid who's interested in other things than the toilet. So let's not shame little kids or their parents with these snarky "3 and still in diaper" mum police comments please.
@streamerssaymyname

It's not unusual for a 3 year old in diapers, lots of kids are forced to potty train months before preschool at the age of 4. Successful potty training requires the kid to recognize when they have the feeling every time and that comes at different ages.

Don’t warn her first or she’ll retaliate. Last story: YTA. A public pool is a lot different than a privately owned one. Ava is the one that has to clean the pool and maintain the chemical balance, while public pools hire a team and use heavy duty disinfectants. I also don’t blame her for not wanting her and her family to be swimming in your child’s waste. She should have cleared it with you before hand, but you have no right to tell her to grow up when you’re acting like a child throwing a tantrum yourself. The pricker bushes is a great idea! I recently got a new neighbor and they're a nightmare! The daughter(10) was kicked off the bus, they told me its because she was being beat up and bullied but no one would corroborate her story because they were threatened. I was confused why they'd kick off the victim who's new to the bus instead of the "bully" that's ridden the bus for 6 years now with zero problems, didn't add up. Well a week or so later my son(9) says he doesnt like her, it was during some bs where she was being emotionally abusive to my other neighbors son(11). Well the new neighbors daughter was actually the one beating people up and being a bully and no one would corroborate her story because it wasnt true. So my son stays away and I've seen how she is, I'm glad he keeps his distance. Neighbors son not so much, he's homeschooled and very naive when it comes to others. Long story short, she's a brat and we have nothing to do with her but they are entitled!!! Final straw was when she repeatedly was trying to kick my neighbors son of MY property. My property is now the play area apparently. They run circles around my house, kick balls/hit my house repeatedly, and scream constantly. She's unsupervised all day, parents come out to get the mail every other day and to bring her to/from school maybe once or twice a week. I have NEVER seen a child so... Mean. She's manipulative, gaslights other kids, does the "I'm your friend 1 minute then the next I hate you" bs, and is the ultimate victim when her parents are around. When I spoke to the mom about her trying to kick people off my lawn the whole time shes doing the fake almost cry thing and saying, "I kept telling him to go away and leave me alone but he wouldn't and kept following me!". When I pointed out she plays with him for hours then randomly tells him she doesnt like him, its obviously going to confuse the kid, she gave me the dirtiest look and stormed off and the mom was oblivious. Apparently shes not used to being called out for her lies. For 2 weeks she was doing that, it was just cruel to the other kids. Watch your freaking kids people I got some giggles out of it since the area they play in is where I bring my dog out. When I picked up her poop the other day it was all smooshed from them running through it 😂😂 Pricker bushes are sounding amazing right now tho. I'm kinda feeling roses would look beautiful there actually

First story, I’m gonna make a very condensed comment because the full story would be a novel. Lifelong friend’s ex husband (they were both remarried and completely friendly, shared five children together) lived in rural North Carolina. Had dozens of acres of property that a neighbor (who brought his boys) was trespassing on with ATVs. Basically just causing damage to the property but even if he wasn’t just the trespassing was weird and not understandable. There were confrontations between ex husband and neighbor and ex made several attempts to block the entrance point the neighbors were using onto his property (and yes he went to authorities many times, no one did anything but file reports). He finally put up these sturdy wooden pillars with metal cord attached and ANOTHER no trespassing sign (the neighbor stole every sign he put up). Well, the neighbor came out there again one night with his sons on their ATVs and whether he noticed the no trespassing sign or not we’ll never know. Because he drove right into the metal cables blocking off the entrance and was instantly killed. That was no one’s desire or intention. The ex was charged by neighbor’s family criminally and it was a lengthy legal battle but neighbor’s family lost. No one wins. I know that’s such an extreme example. But my goodness, just respect other people’s property.

My neighbor put signs and sprinklers but nothing worked So he decided to go nuclear and he planted a wall of poison ivy around the garden. I don't know how the hell he did it but that wall was super packed I don't think that even a mouse could go though it. Now everyone avoids his house like it is the plage and no dog or cat has destroyed his garden.

OMG I remember stealing raspberries as a 6 yr old. I didn't understand how they were different than wild blueberries, lol! Lady was chill tho, my mum had taught me to never pick too many of anything bc it was "bad to steal all the birdies food".

My mom will berate me after getting in the way while I'm cooking, intentionally, like deciding to start washing dishes while I'm in the middle of cooking something and need the water or trying to chop right next to the sink in a tiny kitchen. She literally once moved a skillet with food in it I hadn't turned on yet and reached around my front to start wiping the stove off. She will say things like I'm 60 yrs old I've cooked more than you ever have, I know more than you, etc etc. But she is a terrible cook. She puts water in the skillet with hamburgers so she can go for a smoke and not burn them, she uses no seasoning besides salt and pepper, she basically eats no vegetables at all and literally doesn't even know what a lot of vegetables look like and asks me "what is that weird food?" When I'm cooking like bok choy or brussel sprouts or okra or even something like fresh dill. She literally doesn't recognize these vegetables at 60 yrs old. So just because MIL says she knows her way around a kitchen doesn't mean shit, and I know from experience that these types 100% will get in the way to try to bump chests basically and do a power game type of thing.

S2: Op should've pressed charges cause even though the father might've been intimidated by the threat of police now, the wife clearly isn't. I wouldn't be surprised if she escalate out of spite. Last: This is tricky but I think ESH. Sis has the right to not want pee in her pool but how hard was it to tell people that while inviting their kids over for a pool party? It would've saved the headache. Op, while right to be annoyed, should've respected her rules and not cause a bigger fuss than what was needed. Either way, this literally could've been avoided had everyone acted like an adult and communicated. I just don't understand why the sis didn't tell Op over the phone about her rule if she knew Op was one of the parents who had a kid that wasn't potty trained.

The mother in law story.. my nan is just like this. It has nothing to do with abandonedment issues she just wants to be nosy and try to control all situations. When she doesn't get her way, she causes drama . She's still the centre of attention. She dies it at Christmas, birthdays, or any family event. If we go out to eat, she bothers people on other tables by butting into their conversations and trying to show off.

S1: ❤ TY for this.. I have been dealing with this "fishing" or reverse psychology, histrionics, or drama and have been raised to fawn and people please. It seemed so passively innocent but it really does damage and I am learning boundaries. Questions like this remind of Judah Iscarot: "It is not I, is it?" Jesus pulled no punches said, "You yourself said it." I wish I could be like Jesus LOL. Learning to get the courage to think and set some boundaries-sometime, eventually LOL.😂

Do you mean Mrs Bucket? xD Oh man, I loved that show. My grandmother did too, except she was very much like the lead and missed the point entirely.
