Hi Eric, it’s your opponent here, here are some thought maybe you and your viewers might want to know. In the opening until 0-0 c4 was my preparation, and indeed it was a mistake, the best move was instead of Nf3, to go 0-0 Nd7 Qf3! And play for kingside activity. You did a very good defending job in an endgame which was extremely unpleasant for you. After Ra2 Rb2 was my idea, but I saw Rxc3 there and I realised I couldn’t play it. In the final position, I tried things, but you defended well. I think maybe Ke6 is the best way there, because after some room waiting move I play Rc4 Rc2 Kf5 and it’s zugwang. Anyways GG!!

Hey Eric, I notice that noone has noticed you about the most important thing in this tournament for you yet, which is... You need to stay at your rating. Your Fide rating is 2357, which is the concatenation of the first four primes, meaning it's the best 4 digit number (objectively). So for a player in the 2-3k rating range, you have the optimal rating, and must keep it at all costs.

@@happy_labs Not rude, but he is the stronger player (+270 ELO) and the position was slightly favorable for his opponent. So Eric was a bit lucky not to fight until the end.

Hey Eric, Icelander here. The tap water is world class. I live abroad and miss it every day. My advice is to not buy bottled water if you have a choice. No local does it and it is generally considered a tourist trap(ish) product. Good luck in the tournament!

For those interested: I've set up the position at the end and ran Stockfish. It's a dead draw with an evaluation of 0.00. Online engines are close to useless for deep analysis. Especially when Multi PV mode is on like in Eric's case here. Eric, disable mulitline analysis if you want more reliable engine analysis.

C4 is so so common. I think this is just one those times the enormous possibility space of chess conspires to provide a distinct helping/hurting wind...notwithstanding fairly simple, straightforward play. And you've broached that people can significantly over/under play their rating on any given day. That and the typical psychology involved with disparate ratings play (both ways).

The reverse can happen in the Caro-Kann Panov Attack with white playing c5. This can be advantageous for white in some positions such as when black plays e6.

The fiancetto bishop/ queen pawn majority is what I hate playing against the most from a "queens gambit" position which you transposed to. Its just so strong. I end up forcing a trade for the white bishop and if I am lucky I can push a4 to stop the queen side from getting pushed down my throat like you did in this game.

In my experience analyzing endings with Stockfish, a difference of +/- 2.0 reflects better practical chances in a position that is objectively equal. With a difference of +/- 4.0, however, there is something.
@wolfosfi9945 Жыл бұрын
Even with the engine I still don't understand the win in the final position. It seems like at some point you go Ke6 to waste a move to reach the position at 18:45, and in some cases the break d4 is necessary to distract the e3 pawn, but I don't see a logic to the timing of these moves yet...

Personally i like to play c3 instead of c4 against the queens indian since it blockades the entire upperleft side of the board from the lower right side and gives you all the time in the world to attack his king side. This way his bishop on b7 is worthless
