I really wish we could get over this tired argument. Yes, guns kill people, but only in response to the direct action taken by a person. If you're going to be literal and blame the actual death-causing object, then guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. Regardless of how you choose to look at it, guns by themselves are not problematic. The problem is the people we allow to own and handle them. If we enacted common-sense gun laws (as we do with other objects, such as vehicles), then we would either massively cut back or eliminate our gun problems. There are so many simple things that could be done to reduce gun deaths, it's truly bind-boggling why they haven't been done already (mandatory background checks, consistent laws across all states, consistent laws regardless of where or from whom a gun is purchased, mandatory gun handling classes and target practice, etc). Any responsible gun owner should be in factor of common-sense laws because the irresponsible, problematic gun owners who go out and kill people paint a bad picture for all gun owners. Why is it that you need to license your dog, but not your guns?

Well as Mark Twain said: "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics!" The devil is always in the details but it's sad those of us not in media have to spend our precious time looking up these facts because either they don't know how to find them or they don't understand the nuances of those lying stats. For example (!), if you look at the "Bureau of Justice Stats" based on a 2016 survey of prison inmates, 287,400 possessed a firearm during their offense, 56% had either stolen it (6%), found it at the scene (7%), or obtained it off the street/underground (43%) and only 7% had purchased it under their name from a licensed dealer! How many of that 7% went to a state with relaxed laws? I'm guessing not many, so this number is likely very small. Those obtained "off the street" were likely stolen from lawful citizens. So it's probably true that lots of "LAWFUL CITIZENS" get their guns in relaxed states simply because it's easier but it's NOT likely many criminals are crossing state lines to buy their murder weapon! You can find these potentially lying "stats" at www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/suficspi16.pdf

You can also use the last four of your social security number if you don’t have a ID. We do have laws that punishes people if their firearms was used in a crime already. Should car manufacturers be responsible for the actions of a insane person? No, but there are laws on the books about storing firearms. If someone didn’t have their firearm stored properly they can be charged by the state. Voting a right just as much as firearms, but to buy firearms you need a ID. So surely we should require IDs for both or none. What will background checks do? These recent mass shooting were done by people who brought the guns legally though a gunstore. People who passed background checks and went though a waiting period to take the rifle home. The shooter at the FedEx building literally had his mom call the cops on him months ago. That state has red flags laws and they took his shotgun. But months later he was able to buy two rifles. These wouldn’t have happened if they police had done their job, they didn’t forward the case to a judge. Guns are everywhere in America, there is no way to stop evil or keep the guns out of the hands of criminals. Gun crime is high in areas with harsh gun control laws and low in areas that don’t have it. Why is that? Because in the gun friendly states the guns aren’t only in the hands of criminals. They know if they kick that door in someone probably will shoot at them.

Uh, no. Let’s not just go ahead and say what you just said. This was, first of all, supposed to be an interview and not a debate. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with saying “I don’t know” or “I can’t answer that.” In a debate a format, you’re far better off saying that than devolving into logical fallacies. He began making that real mistake when he began interjecting ideas about communism, totalitarianism, and socialism, as if they have all played out the same and are all essentially the same. That’s bad debating tactics. Saying I don’t know doesn’t mean you’ve lost. It’s a moment of honesty in, again, what is supposed to be an interview. If we frame that as being the tell tale sign that you’ve lost, no one will admit when they’re wrong. That’s how we end up with the gun violence we have in this country in the first place. Were it a debate, I know which side I would feel far more comfortable arguing on. Gun violence in this country is completely out of control, and I’d personally say that’s a direct reflection of the lack of legislation made to prevent it from being as such. I’m siding with the interviewer here, but not because this guy admitted he doesn’t have an answer for something. It’s because of all the crap that he said when he DID have an answer for something.

"Neanderthal" thinking : Do not screw with amendment rights that clearly state that you have the right to bear arms, but you don't have the right to shoot anyone and everyone that doesn't agree with you. Abide by that and you will be ok. Left-wing thinking : we should ban all guns and that will put an end to all gun violence. Meanwhile the left-wing vice president (because she is in charge of the southern border surge) is letting cartel shipments loaded with guns and drugs right in to this country. And then the same group of left-wing activists who literally will listen and believe anything CNN tells them wonders why there are so many gun-related crimes.
