It’s been a really weird few months dealing with this, especially not feeling like I could talk about it until I had more answers. It feels a lot better having it off my chest but let me tell you, the waiting game has been the most difficult part. We’re hoping we’ll have answers later this week but as we said in the video, we probably won’t be back with a new one next Sunday. The good news is Todd has been finding creative ways to keep my mind from spiralling...already excited to share all the beautiful things we're growing in the garden. We'll see you soon xoxo

My mother passed away from colon cancer at age 28 when I was 2 years old. I'm now 65 and started having colon cancer screenings at age 30 every five years due to high risk. It wasn't until ten years ago that only two polyps were found, and those were benign. Back in the day they didn't have the knowledge or tools to effectively detect or treat the disease. Things are much better now and you are smart to take the steps you are taking. Wishing you both and your fur kids the best! Love your videos!

Colon cancer is also on the rise among younger people across the globe (all countries) for some reason. I was 36 with stage 2A, all good now! Colonoscopys are annoying but so important...if you have family history, get one, don't wait for GI symptoms like blood or anything. I had no symptoms and no family history, just lucky. Edit: I also wanted to say cancer sounds scarey but it's not a death sentence! Don't fret, even with advanced stages there's oftentimes treatments...anyway it's not the end of the world, it's just a new way of life.

I’m sure you’ll be fine, it doesn’t stop you from worrying though I know, went through something similar with a breast lump during Covid . It took ages to get a biopsy appt., then it was inconclusive so they removed it, took more ages for that appointment , they kept saying they were 98-99 % sure it was benign. It was, I worried for several years for nothing. Think positive, no sense worrying until you’re told there’s something to worry about.🥰 I’m glad you made this video, it will save lives as it assures other men , and women, that getting a colonoscopy is a positive thing. I’ll be saying prayers for you❤️🙋🏼‍♀️

As one who has been in medicine for 55 years here in the US I am appalled at the medical foot dragging you have described ! Unreal ! Your surgeon should have given you a report as soon as you woke up from the procedure! Now if there was a biopsy done that could take a day or three for results! NOT WEEKS! Owing to your family history the standard of practice is that you should have a colonoscopy every 5 years! I pray you get good news! Best always to Tyler and Todd !

Tyler, you may never know who you are helping. I was told to get a colonoscopy years ago, due to gastric pain. I was scared and just…didn’t. Last year, a friend of mine shared about hers on Facebook and invited anyone with questions to reach out to her. I did, and she walked me through the process and even checked on me several times to make sure I went. Fast-forward several months…the procedure was painless, and most importantly, we found out what was wrong with me and treated it. I’m so grateful to my friend for speaking up about the importance of this procedure - and I’m proud of you, too. Praying that you get answers and the right treatment ASAP, dear.

P. S. If you ever need to do the procedure again, there are prep options that are shorter (12 hours) and taste much better! After the pills, my “potion” was Miralax + Gatorade Zero - not bad at all.

It really is a painless procedure, and my doctors have always given me more pain medication if I needed it. For the most part, I've always been too knocked out to be that aware of pain or discomfort. My mother too (and survived!) Our government sent out a free bowel-cancer screening kit in the mail and in that round- my mother, friend and colleague were all diagnosed. Such a good initiative, saved their lives- my mothers for sure!

Medical procedures of any kind are scary, even if you are a nurse and understand what they will do. I think you’re incredibly brave to share this journey with all of us. I get the same kind of scopes due to family history and I wonder, every time, “what if” so I GET it. I’ve experienced the disbelief from clinicians over lots of things and, as a nurse, it’s AWFUL when you know something isn’t right. You made the right decision to have an MOT. I am so sorry you were messed about earlier this year. I am here for you guys. This stuff is scary and I know I’m only one of 230k, but I will help in any way I can if you need to talk about this when you can’t get anyone else. You’ve got this. This is important stuff to show, because it will help other people make these difficult kinds of decisions and also not to put things off. So much love and support from me. PS Lily in a box? Honestly the prep is 1000x worse than the procedure itself. In the UK you have it done under conscious sedation, so you can watch the whole thing on the screen! But you guys know your community here supports you...and we can tell that just by how you both talk to us.

@@nleonard49 the prep is gross, but nowhere near as awful as i thought it would be. as scary as this is, tomorrow you will have answers. the may be good answers or bad ones, but having the knowledge will allow you to shut your imagination down. whenever i am infirm and don't know what is wrong, i always go to the most dire place, so i feel your pain. all this stress will be worth it once you have a diagnosis. sending love and health and peace. oh, and propofol (the sedation med of choice) is lovely. you will sleep so peacefully and the colonoscopy itself is utterly painless. again, good luck!

Be careful telling people that the prep is horrible. Yes, it's definitely the worst part, but it won't kill anyone, and colon cancer will. I'm sure you mean to say that it's really no big deal but there are many people looking for any excuse not to get tested. For years my mother complained about how terrible a colonoscopy was. Hearing that, my father ignored symptoms. By the time he was tested, he had stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. He didn't survive.

I totally understand your frustration! I tried to impress on my hubby to go for his colonoscopy but he raved like a lunatic and told me to “back off, he can take care of himself.” Well, fast forward, this Memorial Day will be 10th anniversary of his death from colon, rectum and prostate cancer and yes he had them all at the same time! So glad you went for the procedure and I pray you’ll have a great result.

Tyler I have to commend you for listening to your body and realizing something isn't right, even when healthcare professionals told you otherwise. I can see how hard it was to share this health scare with all of us. I was crying with you. However, I believe your bravery will help those of us that keep putting it off because of the prep. I have been reading they are considering lowering the age for the colonoscopy and I think it is a good thing. I have to schedule mine it has been over 10 years since my last one. Thanks for sharing. Sending you positive vibes and prayers of peace and strength while you wait. Sending you guys comforting hugs and love.

Been there done that. But had a gastroscopy at the same time. One after the other. So I felt your nervousness and anxiety. I'm still waiting for results. I hope you have a good outcome. I was given a preliminary report before I left the hospital and now have photos of my gut, top and bottom. I was told everything looked good no polyps. You are doing everyone a favour demysterfing this procedure and it may help others to not put off getting a check up.Thank you.

I had my first colonoscopy 2 years ago at 42. It is not usually recommend but ive had digestive issues so they wanted me to have one. They removed 24 polyps in 2022 and 10 in 2023. Thankfully they were all precancerous. They said i can go 2 years this time before my next colonoscopy.

I am so sorry you are both going through this. I think I know how you feel but here in the UK I reported blood to my doctor and between that appointment and my colonoscopy was about three weeks and the doctor told me there and then the results. Thankfully just a hemaroid that they banded and it’s been good ever since. We moan about the NHS sometimes but compared to what you are going through we should be grateful. My aunt lived in Toronto and had many illnesses and she paid top dollar for private appointments. She passed last December the ripe age of 93 in her sleep peacefully of old age. Xx.

I am a colon cancer survivor, diagnosed at 38. I had blood in my stool for 2 months before I got a colonoscopy. Fortunately I am ok now but I also lived through the fear you’re experiencing. Glad you pushed through to get a colonoscopy and I am so glad you have the courage to share it with others. Hoping that it comes back clean. But if it doesn’t, you will probably be ok too. Cancer is terrifying but a lot of people go through it and get through it successfully.

I'm Canada as well, I was on my period for 6 months. Dr said take birth control, I said that covers up the problem doesn't find it. 4 months wait for a gynecologist, she took one look at me and said you have pcos, loose weight. My mom has pcos and i'd been checked 3 times before. My Dr sent me for a thyroid test came back negative but the health care only checks 1 thyroid hormone. I was at a point of having to quit my jobs from anemia, dizzy spells exhaustion. I went to a naturopath got all 4 thyroid hormones checked, it confirmed I have hypothyroidism. He put me on supplements in one month it regulated my cycles more than I've ever been and bleeding stopped.

Honestly! Let's talk crap. It seems so embarrassing, but it is so important. As a medical professional I know how important these things can be. As a human we can feel so much shame and fear dealing with our bodies. Putting this out there for others is wonderful! Your transparency and vulnerability is beautiful. You are not alone and you are helping others know they are not alone as well. You're right, you have nothing to apologize for.🙌 Prepping for colonoscopies is not fun, but they can be absolutely life saving. Stay hydrated. I am sending every healing thought. The place is looking awesome!! It's starting to really take shape. So exciting! Big hugs gorgeous souls. Until next time. 💜💜

Tyler my heart goes out to you for having to deal with this and not getting answers for so long 💔 I’ve spent most of my career working in Interventional Radiology- where we do embolization to treat GI bleeds when the GI docs can’t fix them with the scope. I’ve always thought the insurance/private pay situation in the US was such a nightmare and a mess, and I guess in my head I’ve glorified the idea of having a public health sector. Back when y’all were dealing with kidney stones it really put things into perspective- NO CT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT? WHAT?! What if someone is having a stroke?! But the idea that you’ve literally spent YEARS with symptoms that may be mild but could potentially be very serious is absolutely abhorrent to me. I’m so glad you’re doing well but I’m so sad that you weren’t taken seriously and had to wait so incredibly long for a very basic procedure. Colonoscopies are done in outpatient surgery centers in the US. Probably because insurance pays the facility better than they would if it was done in hospital but that a whole different story 🙄 Sending you all the love and good vibes. And also wishing there were some better middle ground between our medicine and yours. It should be so much simpler!

THIS!!! I think the nuance that often gets lost in conversations about healthcare is both systems are broken…having a hybrid of both seems to be a way better option. Having Public health so even the most vulnerable have free access is incredibly important, as is allowing those who are willing to spend their resources to have a faster response time (provided it doesn’t take the place of those without).
@alyadams6388
@alyadams6388 Жыл бұрын
@@tylerandtodd a hybrid with a stronger emphasis on preventative medicine (annual checkups, labs, dietician assessments, etc) in addition to access to mental healthcare (why don’t we get those kinds of annual checkups?!) would be my ideal. That should all be basic fundamental coverage & we pay for insurance in case something big happens… but the insurance company shouldn’t be able to profit off of its members & the extra funds should be put back into the system. Not to mention they shouldn’t be able to deny anything a physicians deems necessary- maybe have a checks and balances system of being able to question a physician if they’re consistently over-prescribing, but treat the dang patient first. I learned recently that it takes a minimum of 90 days to actually get someone off of heroin. But most insurance companies will only pay for 30 days (IF that). The entire system is like banging your head against a wall- if the wall could also take your money 🙄

It also matters WHERE in Canada you are. The East coast healthcare system is in rough shape compared to a lot of Canada. I’m in Ontario. Also don’t have a family doctor currently, but was having health issues and was able to see a doctor at a clinic the same day I decided to see one. He ordered tests, some of which were done that same day and all within a week (including results). Had follow up and a referral to a specialist with an appointment booked for next month. Whole thing was about four months from origin of issue to now. I know my story would be different even if I was in northern Ontario. I don’t live in a big city but I am in the southern part of the province. I have not had to travel more than half an hour for any appointments and nothing cost me anything because I have prescription coverage with work. So the private versus public healthcare debate is even more nuanced than “if you want to pay for it”. I technically could afford to pay if I had to, but due to where I live that will likely never be necessary for me.

Granny Gladys here. I relate to your issues. I had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and had very large cancerous polyps removed during the procedure. Had to have colonoscopies done every six months for the next year and a half. Everything is fine. I am 76 years young. @Lynette Agueda Why are you still here? Why don't you move to Canada? I have NEVER had to wait for any procedure and if the American Healthcare System can keep me alive, which they have,, then they can bill me. Hospitals take regular payments you know, and they accept what you can afford to pay. Just don't ignore them. As long as you are making an effort to pay SOMETHING on a regular basis, they cannot, and will not, take you to court. The judge would see you are making an honest effort to pay and they will tell the hospital to accept what you can afford to pay monthly. Can't get blood out of a stone and they know that.

Since I first began watching your videos on KZbin - around when you were starting the Geodesic Dome build - you both captured my heart. I'm a 77-year old woman in Lexington, KY. Who you are - how you treat others and each other, with such love and respect, you are beacons into the world. Your sharing of this very personal episode in your lives has done so much good. Allowing our vulnerabilities to be exposed is an act of love. Love for yourself and love for others. You will get through this - no matter the outcome. You have such tremendous support from "out here" and with yourselves and your families. It's what this world need to see, feel and emulate. You are blessed. You are loved. I wish you both were my grandsons. What lessons you teach us all. Know that no matter the outcome - and we are all awaiting the GOOD news - there is a way through it. Thank you for being who you are and doing what you do. I send you love and healing light of God/Source. Embrace that love, that healing and that love. I so look forward to each Sunday's video. Hang in there, give in to it all and allow the Grace to be visited upon you. Much love to you both.
