I was about to say; any DSiWare downloads that released for the DSi Shop is also on the 3DS eshop; so you should be able to get X-Scape. The DSiWare version of Shantae Risky's Revenge (which was its first release) can also be downloaded this way; that's how I got it.

How Derek talked all about Faceball 2000 without ever mentioning the single music track in the game is mindblowing. That song by David Whittaker absolutely amazing, and easily one of the best songs ever made for the OG Game Boy. Still hoping to one day see footage of an actual 16-player game of Faceball being done, because that'll have to be a Guinness World Record, or something.

I have to say, this video did not disappoint. I didn't expect to see Argonaut studios involved and a proto-Star Fox on the Gameboy of all things. And I certainly didn't expect to see a tale about a wanted fugitive fleeing the country after absconding with a game's source code.

Alright. That does it. I am now dedicating my life to collecting 16 copies of Faceball 2000 and 16 Gameboys, and 15 link cables, and I am going to play a 16-player game... by myself as I have no friends. But wow, WHY DOES THAT FEATURE EVEN EXIST!? Someday someone should put on a retro convention, where people are incentivised to come round with a copy of Faceball 2000, a Gameboy, and a link cable, to try and make a 16-player game happen, as I’m sure there are at least 16 Gameboy collectors in the world with all the required equipment.

A nice Punching Weight localisation: When the DS rpg Inazuma Eleven by Level-5 (Best known for the Professor Layton and Yo-Kai Watch series) got localised for Europe, the sequel was already out in Japan. The localisers didn't just translate the game, but they also added all information on new characters and moves from the sequel to the game's data, just so that when the sequel eventually released in Europe it would be completely backwards compatible. Inazuma Eleven 2 also had some very interesting features like sharing your team to battle against for other players while passing someone while your DS is in sleep mode... This might just sound like Street Pass, but the thing is... It was a DS game released years before the 3DS and it already had it built in to the game cart. At least someone was happy about it, the game was very popular at my primary school so everyone was hyped when Inazuma Eleven 2 released, we all bought it and played together at school but the weird kid in the corner of the classroom couldn't afford the game but we still tried to connect with his copy of Inazuma Eleven 1, and we were very surprised to see that we still were able to play together without any restrictions

@@TheMadCroctor god, the fact you youngins consider the DS an "old" console is making me feel really old. @@duffman18 I personally don't consider the DS old, but I'm a collector and I know what's actually old (I just bought some kind of Pong console from the 1970's) But it's a fact that the DS is already over 12 years old which was long enough for 2 generations of portable consoles to release and more than long enough for most of my peers to lose interest in their DS's and to let them collect a pretty thick layer of dust.

@@TheMadCroctor oh I know it's technically "old" now. But that's not the point. As you age, the years start to rush by without you even noticing. It really does still feel like the DS just came out. Bill Elliott's NASCAR Fast Tracks actually has a surprising amount of depth to it. Tunning your car for different tracks, damage/tire wear effecting handling, even drafting making you go faster _and_ saving fuel. It was made by the same team who made Test Drive 1&2 and the first 5 Need for Speed games. That screen tearing though... It is a shame we never got a proper NASCAR game on the GBA, would have been so much more capable!

I appreciate what you're trying to say, that 3D as we know it today has had a slow evolution, but 3D games have existed in some form almost as long as video games. Elite, an open world space trading sim, came out in 1984. (It was ported to the NES, incidentally.) SubLogic started making flight simulators in 1979. Battlezone was a tank game, a big arcade hit in 1980.

That's because he said "come at," not "come with." Lol. "...expect it to come at the cost of actual gameplay," I.e. You'd expect the gameplay to suck since the 3-D graphics are so impressive.

Faceball 2000 on SNES was my favorite quirky game as kid, rented from Tommy Ks ton of times before my mom said we need to buy it (probably spent more than its worth in rental fees haha) Luckily I found out about Funcoland then and got a used copy (how did we survive as gamers without eBay and online retailers?). BTW X-Scape is awesome too, glad to see you giving it some love. I have the original Japanese X in box, not too expensive yet and I recommend for any Gameboy fan!

Actually Bill Elliot's NASCAR Fast Tracks is surprisingly ambitious for a GameBoy game. It has drafting mechanics, damage and tire wear that actually effect your car's handling, and tuning options you need to tweak for each track in order to get the car driving the way you want. Sadly you can't save mid-race though, making doing more then about 50 laps a real chore. I've been meaning to invest in a GBC flash cart with save states so I can actually do a full 200 lap race at Daytona! But graphically, yes, it is screen tearing the video game.
