Forcing locals to use ACL boards will kill the grassroots Cornhole scene, which kills Cornhole
@Dr.Spoofs
@Dr.Spoofs 19 күн бұрын
Facts! They should be trying to encourage local directors to move up to ACL, but the cost increase with simultaneous quality decrease will make them just run local scoreholio tournaments. I don't understand it. I got my boards professional grade for $249 and I don't like playing a tournament on less quality but now you might go to an ACL event playing on trampolines that cost double. Insane.

you are right on the money Mike. The ACL is all about MONEY, they don't care about the players/fans. Every oyher year or so you have to have new acl stamp bags. When you go tothrowdown, you need new bags. (and they don't come to HAWAII either, locals here have to travel to the mainland to compete) What ever happen to having funplaying bags.. I'm old school, a war veteran, I took up the game to keep myself moving and in shape. I would love to compete in the seniors division, but that starts at age 55, us seniors don't retire till 62/65 and older. I love the game, I love to compete, but when it comes to the ACL format and role's, their idea of playing the game is starting to make the game not fun anymore. If they were another game in town I would seriously think about jumping ship. Sorry for venting, had to put my 2 cents in. By the way, I LOVE YOUR SHOW

If you strictly only care about the quality and value of your boards In my opinion Cornhole Ace mystery blemish boards can’t be beat. 3/4” Baltic Birch with double supports. They’re not always available you have to keep an eye on their website but when available they are a hell of a good deal. Retail is $200 with free shipping and with a quick google search I was able to find a 10% off coupon code bringing my total down to $179.99 shipped with no sales tax. Boards had zero blemishes they just had a random septic pumping business logo ect. On them. So if you don’t care about looks and just want a great set of professional boards for under $200 you can’t go wrong. I will be picking up another set when they become available again.

Marine grade is more water resistant then baltic birch so that is probably their rationale for using it on the X-Factor. That material is typically used for boats and decks. I've been looking into building my own set so i've been doing alot of research, but might go with baltic birch if the marine grade has chipping issues... and it is more expensive.

In regards to the boards and stamps, I’m guessing the ACL has given them ‘minimum requirements’ for each stamp, and there’s likely a fee with each stamp Sounds like WGC opted for the comp stamp only but went above and beyond the requirements, where as BG and AC went with the minimum requirement
@MikesBags
@MikesBags 17 күн бұрын
The whole point of the board stamp was to standardize the play. So no matter where you went to play, it was the same. If there is only minimum requirements then there is no standard of play.

I agree with you. From the information I know of, it seems to me that the stamped boards only hurt the ACL directors. Which in turn hurts the smaller events and probably will hurt player turnout and the sports expansion. The shootout format was disappointing to hear about, I was planning on playing in the ACL tournaments that would be within a decent driving distance but after seeing the schedule they posted. The Hamilton, OH will be shootout format and I'm absolutely not interested in attending my first ACL event being limited on rounds. Sometimes players get in their flow from the first bag, sometimes it takes 5 or even 10 rounds, if you aren't ON right away with shootout format. You're going to lose even if you find your groove halfway through. The best match I've seen was the Ellis/Guy battle and comeback in MI. Long game, a lot of socials, and that match was INCREDIBLE, I've watched it at least 4 times now. I mean to me that was inspirational, no matter how many points down you are, you can still come back and win! You'll never have that with shootouts. That format rewards fast starters, not necessarily the best player in the match. Just my opinion as a lover of the game and a nobody trying to make his way up.

For me, round limited has intrigue It creates the opportunity for a game plan, makes you have to be aggressive, makes you have to attempt shots and collects you normally may not due to needing the points due to running out of rounds Just creates a different thought and strategy element than just running bags in the hole to me
@MikesBags
@MikesBags 17 күн бұрын
It's actually the opposite. With round limited, you don't have to score a lot of points. You can win 1-0. In a regular game, you have to score 21 to win so you have to go after points and be a little more aggressive. In round limited, you are better off playing conservative because one bad round can cost you the game. So if you go after a collect and miss it, you are in a big hole. The risk is far greater than the reward.

I understand what you’re saying for round limited but I actually like the shoot out format because it changes things up and it changes how you play. Playing the 21 game is fun ofc, but the limited round you could win 1-0 if all players are shooting lights out. No mistakes for round limited :). Just my opinion

@MikesBags
@MikesBags 17 күн бұрын
I have never played on their boards. Looking at the description, it looks like they use a lower quality top board (they call it Baltic veneer). Their boards specs are similar to the ACL and ACO except they allow the font of the board to be up to 4" high. The other leagues only allow up to 3.5". Not a huge difference but it will cause their boards to play faster if they are that high at the front. I can vouch for the quality of Cornhole Solutions boards and their boards are cheaper than the WSOC boards. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance on an unknown product.

Good points all around. As a player and fan, I find the ACL frustrating. My beefs: - Watching the pro circuit as a fan, its such a non-cohesive product. Some games on youtube, some on ESPN, some on ESPN+, and now Blitz. Spreading the Nationals into two separate events is lame. On weekend 2 of a National you have the National finals, a full open event, teams, and Superhole. It is very messy and if you are a newer fan, probably confusing. I wish they would do away with teams (does anyone actually care?) and round limited formats, it doesnt seem like people are actually much interested in these events. - Just like the bags, and now with the boards, the ACL wants their cut. As this video shows, they do not actually care about consistency with boards or quality, they simply want their money. And wait until the stamped boards come out, the prices are only going to go up because the board makers have to pony up to the ACL from that point on. All in all, if you play ACL events, the ACL drives up your cost as a player. - The ACL player app is horrendous. Scoreholio's is far superior, especially for looking at past tournaments, stats, and games. I also prefer the Scoreholio scoring over ACL but that is very subjective and I know some like the ACL scoring better.

I'm with you on board minimums. I've played on enough "pro" boards that were trash and bouncy. I wouldn't want to play on those comp, thin single brace boards. I've played where you could land low on the board and bounce up over blockers because the boards hopped because they weren't braced enough and not heavy enough. I won't play on those kinds of boards and the comp boards do not have the quality i would want to play on.

Adding $60 to a set of bags for the ACL pro stamping absurd. Whoever is running the ACL needs to be replaced. They’ve lost site of what’s important for a developing game. Valid complaints on the boards. They should have the same bracing and thickness across all makers and yes 5/8 single brace is not what I would expect. Single brace is probably fine at 3/4 but double bracing would be better. I am in a local league who use similar cheap boards but it's not ACL or aco and I get 7 matches a tournament & a shirt for 65$ so I have lower expectations.

(Sorry in advance for the prolix nature of this comment - I'm just kind of passionate, which is not uncommon amongst serious cornhole guys and gals.) They shouldn't allow players in these leagues to choose their own bags - instead, the leagues themselves should mandate UNIVERSAL BAGS for everyone so that there is an equal advantage/disadvantage. Now, let me expound on that. The way it's done now is kind of chaotic, in my opinion. Everyone should be tossing the same damned bags in the name of fairness. The leagues need to provide the bags. When you get to a tourney, the bags are already there and everyone uses the same bags, no matter what type is agreed upon. Maybe the league could provide, say, two or three types as a compromise to the inevitable complaints about not being able to use their favorite satchels. -You pick a set of bags, and you play with them the entire tourney. This would limit a lot of the complaints of players about people having unfair advantages because of equipment. ...and as to those with contracts with certain bag companies, they can still promote the bags of their choice, but during league play, you have to conform to the equipment required. You can't use your own special basketball in the NBA - you have to use the league-approved equipment which is the same for everyone. In baseball, you can use any type of bat you'd like, but it always has to meet the specifications required by MLB. This helps to limit unfair advantages for individuals. Although in this particular, MLB has a bit of a problem keeping up with technology changes as well. *** *_I just thought of something - perhaps the leagues could mandate different types of bags at different tourneys. Maybe one tourney is renowned for providing super fast bags and another, mid-range speed bags, and still another could use slower bags, more of an old-school type feel. It's sort of like in golf, at the US open, you can expect LONG courses, with SUPER thick rough and huge greens, plus some sand - whereas, the Masters is known for players needing accuracy, with lightning fast greens, requiring a completely different skill set than the US Open. You could make it so that different cornhole tourneys are famous for requiring different skill sets. I think that'd be thrilling for fans and challenging for players. It'd require more specific and particular strategies on the part of the players, that's for sure._* Now, I know that this is a tough sell and that policing the rules would require vigilance on the part of league officials. This is a tough sell all the way around, but if you really want to know who's better than whom, you have to _at least make the effort of *trying* to level the playing field. There are just too many kinds of bags and they just keep coming. Something needs to be done to level the playing field, in my opinion. -PS: I make every effort when I play with my friends just for fun to keep it an equal (dis)advantage for everyone - We play outdoors, so if we followed the rules of the player staying on one side the whole game, then you will quickly find that it's unfair because some spots are not so level, sometimes you're into the wind, etc. These are my own rules for switching : When playing heads-up, top of the first and bottom of the first inning, we stay on the same side. When we come back to the starting board, (which is always the top of the inning) we switch sides and play the second on the same side. Top of the third, we switch again, so that we are on the same sides as we were on the top of the first. The next game, we even switch bags so that if there is any (dis)advantage, we both have equal time on the same equipment. In doubles, we toss the top of the first inning, then we switch sides. (I call it switching short) The other side throws the bottom of the 1st and after, _they_ switch short on their side on their board. After they throw the bottom of the 2nd, (4 half-innings) then we switch LONG, meaning that both pairs of guys walk all the way to the other boards, usually with awkward and ill-timed pounds exchanged... 🤣 So we switch both short and long, (there is no switching long in heads-up, only in doubles) giving equal time at all spots so as to make it as fair as we possibly can. Different players are better at different spots, especially in outdoor conditions. It's unfair to leave me, (lets say) at a spot where I'm just killing it. I should have to be able to adjust to all spots, all equipment, all weather, and all other variables. Indoors is a different thing, since there are "perfect" conditions at all spots. Still, if it were me, I'd implement my rules switching anyway. I think it shows that an effort is being made to make conditions fair. The switching is a bit confusing at first, but it becomes second nature after just a couple games. My apologies for this mini-novella. lol. I just wanted to add my thoughts. Cheers, and thanks for the content!
