Lucas did continue Luke's story. It began in Heir to the Empire trilogy and continued throuout various novels where he married Mara Jade and started a new Jedi academy with Han and Leia's twins, Jacen and Jayna. Lucas had a strict policy that writers of the novels had to keep with his Cannon. They were awesome novels.

That will always feel like a big swing and a miss for me, Disney had all the diversity and the force is female they wanted in legends. With so many amazing hella strong female characters Jaina, Mara Jade, Tenal ka, Alema Rar,cilghal,seba sebatyne, Admiral Daala, Danni Quee, Tahiri,Mirax, of course uber queen Leia. I don't know George Lucas' plans after doing the prequels, but the take away I get from what we learn there is that the Legends material still gets it right! I think that Luke should have built his Jedi order to HIS way of thinking, not gone back to the old doctrine (like they kind of hint at in the sequels)...cause to me, the original trilogy just points out the flaws of the Jedi during the time of the prequels. It was ultimately the Jedi lack of compassion that led to Anakin's choices...sure Palpatine used Anakin's feelings for Padme to manipulate him, but had he been able to turn to Obi-Wan and the council with the visions he was having of his wife, then maybe Palpatine wouldn't get that chance...and maybe his manipulations would have been more easily detected! We then see in the originals, that the old doctrine is still being prattled on by Yoda and Obi-Wan...Luke feels compassion for the father he has never known, where Yoda and Obi-Wan want Luke to kill him...THAT is supposed to be the end of his training. But Luke's compassion, and Vader's love for his son (and daughter) are what turn him from being one of the most evil people in the galaxy back to the light!...This is what is missing from the sequels...Luke (by then a pretty highly trained master) is just going to kill his nephew for a vision, when he was determined to save Vader, who had committed countless atrocities...I don't think so! I think Luke should lean more into the "grey", including bringing Mara Jade into canon...also, has any one else noticed that Jedi always seem to ignite their sabers before anyone else? I may have wandered off topic here :)

Not really. Lucas had a ton of issues with the post-ROTJ content (Mara Jade and getting rid of the no attachment rule) and says that Grey Jedi are impossible to exist.

As much as I loved Ahsoka, the average moviegoer would have have no idea who these people are. Most people who were already over the age of 20 in 2008 never watched Clone Wars or Rebels because they view cartoons as being for little kids. You won't understand Ahsoka unless you watched Clone Wars and Rebels at home first. Ahsoka would have bombed as a big screen movie since more than 70% of Star Wars moviegoers never watched the animated TV shows. Most moviegoers are casuals, not hardcore fans.

This topic is interesting. I have a Marvel StarWars comic book from the early 1980s . Luke Skywalker had a love interest who also had redhair and was a Rebel pilot. Luke was devastated when the Rebel Alliance found her dead from the battle. But she wasn't dead. Years later she came back as the Dark Lady. To take revenge on Luke and the Alliance for abandoning her.

They could bring Mara Jade back and she can have relationship with Luke Skywalker. They have twins and he doesn’t know it because she got pregnant right before the fall of his Jedi Temple, and he cut himself off from The Force. That could extend the Skywalker bloodline. Have episode 10, 11, and 12 still be about the mighty Skywalker blood. Legitimately bloodline. We would still have the palatine bloodline as well. One of Luke’s sons could have a relationship with Rey and she could have a kid mixed with Skywalker and Palpatine blood. That would be one powerful Force user. The mixture between both bloodlines I can only imagine how powerful they would be. And that’s how you could explain true ballad in the force. Mixing the bloodlines while still keeping Anakin Skywalker as the chosen one that brought balance to the fourth and still keep him as the Mortis God “father”.

I always thought Luke came off as gay and that his interest in Leia was more to piss off Han. Luke being a hermit in Last Jedi made sense to me in that both of his Jedi mentors, Obi-Wan and Yoda, had done the same. Most of the original ideas of George Lucas are in the sequel. The other ideas that weren't in the episodes 7-9 could be part of a 4th trilogy. 1) a galaxy without law and the criminal syndicates controlling territories. The crimelord could be a new character. 2) Luke disappeared for so many years. What happened to him during that period? He ran away from the Jedi teachings. He could fall in love and have any offspring. Remember, George Lucas always spoke about Vader's grandchildren. 3) Darth Talon character fits perfectly in a criminal underworld movie. She's a femme fatale character who is part of the film noir movies.

Bitter Luke in the sequels could somehow work if Luke does have a romance in the upcoming shows of the Mandoverse, and maybe in an adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy (Filoni movie(s)?). And him losing his family would make him bitter, and want to retreat after losing the jedi temple. I rather want them to fully decanonize the sequels all together tho.

you know George Lucas having the same mindset as the jedi way is so opposing to both the story and the idea behind it. Anakin was a passionate, emotional person and the Jedi way told him he shouldn’t feel those emotions. When he came to them seeking genuine help or support they told him to ignore his problems. Ultimately, the Jedi were flawed. Anakin was just the product of their failures, it all happened because the jedi insisted on its followers to not feel anything. George Lucas saying the very same thing about Luke and disliking Mara Jade's marriage to Luke is a big contrast to what the whole thing was trying to tell us. all George Lucas showcased in the prequels was how Anakin fell to the dark side because of the Jedi mistreatments. imo Legends depiction of Luke makes more sense, he decided that some Jedi teachings of the past should stay in the past, because he knew their way is not only incorrect, but also a pathway to the dark side, because when you set barriers, it gradually becomes a some sort of encouragement for people to be drawn to it. that's why Luke's new Jedi order was the best
