After 4 month not being able to sail. The cruise ship finally boarded passengers and left the port. Only to have to stop dead in the water an hour later. 180 passengers ill on Alaskan cruise. Is dock strike affecting cruises?

Definitely washy washy. But also wash after serving yourself at the buffet. Can be tricky for those of us traveling alone. But I always have a hand sanitizer with me for after. Just because you washed going in doesn’t mean everyone did.

I usually wash right before going into the buffet, but now I wash again - and carry my sanitizer everywhere. Getting sick on a cruise is NOT good times.

Yes, in my area too. Sam's club was nearly wiped out of TP and bottled water. All made in the USA.

The report from those on the Villa Vie Odyssey said as they boarded they were told they needed to finish paperwork on Oct 1, and the report today is for some reason they need to top off the drinking water tank. Tomorrow they should should be in France based on what they were told.

They are using excuses to buy time. They are probably trying to secure additional funding from investors in panic or there’s still serious technical issues. This is all a major red flag operation!

I don't understand why they keep calling people to come onboard when they don't have all of the paperwork done. If they can't get this done, what are the chances they will get the destination requirements completed on time.

V V sailed to an anchor point so they could go back to Belfast to pick up the last of what they needed. Everyone is still positive, though. They have the paperwork for passengers to sleep on board so they won't need to get off.

I bring Clorox wipes on our cruise. Wipe everything down and wash my hands all the time. My husband just said we hope this strike doesn’t affect our cruise.

They have a different contract with cruise ships. So they are safe for now. The also said all foods were unloaded before the strike.

Holland America ship does not have hand washing facilities at the buffet. On a recent 16 night cruise we saw only one other oerson use the sanitiser at the entry

I go to the restroom before going in the buffet. I wash my hands there. They are located just outside the buffet. So, maybe you didn’t see some washing or sanitizing.

In 2010 we took a 20 night South America and Antarctica cruise on the Veendam which had been on Code Red (over 10% onboard sick) for 30 days before we even embarked. They were very strict about hand sanitizer in the MDR and the Lido. We went off Code Red for 2 days in the middle of the cruise, then back on as somebody else got sick. I have never had norovirus. I'm very careful about what I touch and wash my hands all the time. They had the Yum Yum Guy at the entrance to the MDR with the gallon bag of hand sanitizer and he squirted everybody. Best cruise ever!

We've been using napkins / gloves to handle serving utensils since our first cruise way before covid, noro, etc... Some folks are just plain nasty.

That’s crazy who is in charge of the adm area they need to be fired. We always wash our hands, they need to go back to covid days making everyone wash their hands and don’t allow people in the buffet if they don’t wash their hands.

On Royal Princess I was told they would need an extra 50-100 crew to serve in the buffet. $$$$$. At least they are staging crew at the entrance, in busy times, to encourage passengers to wash hands. At least after Honolulu there will be fewer Americans on board. The boarding Australians will wash their hands. Just my observations with over t0 cruises done.

We've been on board where out of 3k people, about 200, had the Noro virus and / or covid. They stopped self-serve at the buffet, which was good. I like the staff doing it but we mainly ate in the main dining room, always washing our hands. We never caught either bug. It was the second cruise after Australia opened up to cruising again, and the media called it the ship from hell and horror cruise. It was very unfair when they could have said 2.8k people didn't get sick. The staff were brilliant. We've been on 8 since then without catching any bugs.

I’m usually sympathetic toward labor. But I hope that some kind of emergency plan can be worked out for the victims of Helene. They are going to need food , medicine , appliances like refrigerators etc.
