As an Australian who has 2 weeks to go before we get to fly home, this made me quite emotional. The stress of 4 cancelled flights, anxiety of selling cars and houses, as well as removing children from school, the dismay at the horrid and abusive vitriol online directed at citizens trying to come home by local Australians and the anger at how uninterested the government is in creating a proper quarantine system that doesn't stop Australians coming home, mixed with a song I grew up with celebrating our link to our home country has just made me burst into tears in the middle of getting dinner. How did it come to this?

I won't call Australia home for some time and until some changes take place. Through some grace I found a ticket to Adelaide to see my sick sister. She died while I was in quarantine. The govt wouldn't let me see her because I was an international traveller while at the time they let quarantined interstate people see sick relatives and they let tennis players practice outside. The whole experience was cruel. BTW I didn't have COVID and it all cost 16,000 dollars. I feel shamed by my country.

So many of us who have families abroad were made invisible by the acts of this government. “No appetite for reopening ” says ScoMo. It seems that rich people do have the appetite, they get fed and even get a dry martini at the end.

To those saying that they chose to leave and shouldn’t call Australia home, give your heads a wobble. Most parents, including mine, say it’s always okay for their children to come home if they’re in trouble. It should ALWAYS be okay to come home to Australia. Just because people decide to live their lives, be adventurous, explore, doesn’t ever change the fact that home is bloody home! If your parents had the same contempt for you as the Australian government, most of you would br heartbroken and rightly so.

Fear for our own well being has brought us to this? God in heaven, if you really are speaking to SCOMO, please tell him to establish safe quarantine centres instead of denying Aussies a place at the cheeseboard. Absolutely bloody nailed it. I moved to the UK in 2019 - 2021 and worked as a healthcare worker for the NHS in London. Get home to find Australia has abandoned it's morals as it's for 'the greater good' to keep Australians safe. Wild idea, you can keep aussies safe at home and also do right by the Aussies that were/are overseas. Come on Australia you're better than this.
@rebeccahopper55693 жыл бұрын
It's close to $10,000 for me and my bf. $1,900 for flights each and then $4,500 on hotel quarantine. What sucks is the comments and remarks saying stuff anyone left overseas it's our fault we should have come home when we had the chance. We actually did, when the first lockdown in Paris hit, but we had to come back because we have jobs here and only in September is the bf's contract up so we are returning. But, the feeling is basically people living abroad aren't welcome in their own country.
