Viewer from Japan here. I can support Atrioc's point at 9:22 with actual data. While the slush fund scandal definitely played some role in 自民党(LDP) losing votes and a big role in Kishida stepping down. The fact that 国民民主党 (DPP) and れいわ新選組(Reiwa Shinsengumi) were by far the biggest victors of the election shows how much of a concern the economy is for the average Japanese, since these are the two parties heavily focused on the economy. 国民民主党(DPP) had an increase in vote count by 138% compared to the last general election and a seat increase by 154.5% れいわ新選組(Reiwa Shinsengumi) had 71.7% increase in vote count and 200% increase in seats. You can compare this to the biggest opposition party 自由民主党 (CDP)s' 0.6% increase in vote count and 54.1% increase in seats and the 自民党(LDP)s' loss of 26.8% loss of vote count and 26.3% loss in seats. Fun fact, the 国民民主党(DPP) actually won even more seats, but didn't have enough candidates to fill those seats. Funnier fun fact, right after the election the leader of the 国民民主党(DPP), 玉木 雄一郎 got into a controversy for having an affair in which he says he got honey trapped...

Australian Zoomer/Zilllenial highschool teacher here. The kids I teach will be directly affected by the social media ban. I agree with a lot of what you said in the video about how it's a good idea in principle, but very hard to enforce and/or opens the door to government intrusion. And you're right, the real solution is to get kids off of phones. At my school, we can keep phones away from morning until afternoon, and it works quite well. But after that, it's up to the parents. And that is where the issue lies. Even though public polling says getting kids off phones is a good idea, no one, and I mean NO ONE, is talking about how it's the parents' responsibility. The parents I talk to about their kid's issues want to blame the government, blame the social media companies, or blame the kids themselves, but they wont own up to the truth that they are the only people who can make a difference and they're failing to do it. The government and our media won't run that story because they are the voting and listening base, and of course, the social media companies won't blame them because they're a part of their revenue source. We keep saying it's someone else's responsibility to keep social media/phones away from kids, but the truth is that parents are the only ones who can do it, and they aren't.
@Parthian6
@Parthian6 Ай бұрын
I totally agree. Parents are failing to raise their children properly in current Western society. Part of that is due to the demands of both parents trying to keep careers going and not having enough time, but part of it is definitely complacency and some sort of societal shift away from letting your kids roam outside or sending them to the library or tinker with whatever is around and make their own entertainment. It's just easier to stick a screen in front of them like a tranquilizer drug, and the addiction is no less real. Once a kid is hooked to electronics it's extremely difficult to get them to have any sort of initiative to seek out their own entertainment, so it becomes a vicious cycle. Parents seriously need to be held accountable and society at large also needs to shift in a way that makes it feasible for parents of any social class and in any career to have enough time to properly raise children, not just to solve this oroblem, but also others like plummetting birthrates and childhood obesity.

One thing I would like to ask as someone who is getting a Masters in Business Analytics and has always been interested in economic foils. Could I suggest you do a deep dive into something I think many Americans and people of the world would be interested in. This could because of the scale be turned into a multi week marketing Monday or yearly super marketing Monday. 1. The stock market before Black Tuesday and the economic causes of the Great Depression besides what schools describe. 2. How the US government made laws to regulate and prevent such even to happen again. Such for example the amount of money banks should hold of your cash you deposit to them. 3. How in the Era of the US Government forever being a money printer with a economy that always goes up. We have one by one destroyed or let nearly every law that we made to prevent a possible economic catastrophe like it to happen again. If you feel like this is something you need help with I would love to help even if it was for nothing. Since it would be a great project for me to help make for my Master’s Capstone when the time comes around. If you don’t see this comment I may repost it in other future videos after a month or so. Only because this is something I feel like I only scratched the surface up and is more important than ever for people to know what worked and how we let business and political interests influence them. (BTW I’m not saying we’re heading for a Great Depression. This is more based on the idea that we have had protections to prevent such a big event, but because of us forever trying to prevent this from happening. All we have done is set ourselves up with richer billionaires who have only been rewarded for their fuck ups, while letting the lower and middle class struggle. While possibly setting the groundwork for an economic crisis that without the right people in charge could change our pathway of the US and World governments completely in different directions

16:00 What you’re saying about Germany, the AfD, and Europe in general really resonates with me. I grew up in Berlin as part of a multicultural environment and have always been observant about societal changes. In 2016, I left Germany and Europe to travel the world. It was a time when Trump was running for president, and many people in Europe dismissed what was happening in the U.S. as 'their problem' or even found it entertaining. But I saw deeper parallels. One of the main reasons I left was because I could already see warning signs in Europe-rising racism, economic struggles, and increasing polarization. When Trump was elected, many people I knew mocked the U.S., treating it as a joke. I tried to explain that these issues were not just 'American problems' but were reflective of a larger, global shift. Unfortunately, no one took me seriously. Now, eight years later, while still traveling and learning about the interconnectedness of our world, I see those same issues playing out across Europe: economic stagnation, social division, and the rise of far-right ideologies. What’s sad is how many people remain in denial, thinking that these problems won’t touch them-when in reality, they’re already at their doorstep. It’s disheartening to witness this ignorance and complacency, especially when so much could be learned from observing other countries and their struggles. The need for awareness and proactive solutions has never been greater.

Interesting perspective, I would agree that the world in general is becoming far more polarised but in comparison to America, I think most European countries are a couple steps behind them in this regard. Also with growing tensions on the international stage leading to wars breaking out (Russia/Ukraine, Israel/palestine, etc.) in my opinion this is the root cause for alot of issues western countries are facing. This has massively increased problems such as immigration, cost of living, and the economy in almost every country. Its no coincidence the majority of western countries are sharing a lot of the same issues. Also housing seems to be a massive issue in a lot of countries. I'm Irish (where housing is the no.1 concern) and a big contributor to this is the financial crisis around 2008.

I know the reasons why alcohol sales are declining, but the main one is due to the outdated 1920's regulations that drive cost per bottle up year over year. I work in import/export of spirits. Although the US is the biggest market, it's the hardest country to break into with quality products because each state gives 1-5 companies exlusive rights to transport it. It's called the 3 tier system (producer, distributor, retailer/bar/restaurant), it comes from the prohibition era, and creates oligopolies where producers have to court distributors with big volumes, otherwise they won't list you, or they will list, but they won't advertise your product. It is actually illegal for a brand to move their own product outside of the distillery, which makes it very hard to sell directly to consumers or small businesses. Not even talking about the outrageous fees distributors charge or unfair concessions they demand. So to go to 50 states you need to negotiate, haggle, coordinate, with 50 different distributors. It's simply too much work unless you *have a big budget and designated team. It's more profitable to sell elsewhere as an independent.* And remember that every time the product changes hands, they mark it up 30%-50%, so a small price change at the bottom of the chain like a *25% tariff*, just as a random example, can actually double final prices. Stock up on tequila and mezcal Edit: i forgot half a sentence my B, fixed it.

Atrioc is right about Japan. I saw it living here. Even after the church scandal, nothing happened. The slush fund scandal was just a news story. Everyone accepted a long time ago that this stuff has been happening since Abe (he has a list of financial scandals too). It didn't change his election results. No major political upheaval happened. Young people were annoyed cause older voters decide elections and they didn't care. The weakening yen is scaring people enough to push them to finally taking political action because they want it fixed.

I saw atrioc mention the Canadian dollar store dollarama, and mention that they are struggling. I’m a Canadian university student and my accounting professor uses dollarama as an active example of a company thriving, even directly saying that dollarama is growing faster than Costco , atleast in their accounting numbers. I think there is a difference between Canadian dollar store chains and American dollar store chains. the difference is Americans are moving from target to Walmart, and Canadians are moving from Walmart to dollarama for every non grocery visit to the store. A large group of people just can’t afford Walmart silverware, or cups. So they buy them at dollarama. I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to afford to move out of my parents house, I’m even lucky enough to be indigenous, so I get huge government Benefits, like my tuition is paid for, and I have a decent job serving tables at a restaurant. By all means I should be ahead, but it feels like I’m still so far away from being able to be independent. I have worked at Home depot for 10 years now, I think you would be extremely interested in learning how they conduct buisness and how much of a monopoly they hold over the "home improvement" retail space. They keep gobbling up more and more flooring, lumber, tools and electronic distributors. I now make 24$ an hour, recently transferred to Idaho from california expecting the cost of living to be better, lost 2$ in pay in the process and the cost of living is litterally no different. Food and other retail goods are as a matter of fact more expensive... gas is the only thing that is "cheap". Housing is no different, me and my wife trued for a loan on a 200k house and were asked to pay 2500$ a month in mortgage.. shit is so bad. P.s... we are living in an rv from the 90's in my mother in laws backyard with our 2 kids a 1yo and 3 yo..😢

I'm a US university student who lives with a German, and Japanese roommates. It is honestly crazy to see how our political ideologies line up with each other. I am studying mechanical engineering with a focus on energy production, so talking with my German and Japanese roommate is really interesting. You have a man who has grown up in a country where their first introduction to nuclear power was two cities getting deleted from the face of the earth, and yet they still back the power of nuclear energy because of the geographical disadvantage an island nation faces. While on the other hand, my german roommate explains the fear mongering and politicizing the green party has pushed to get rid of nuclear while in the middle of an energy crisis. He finds it infurating and cannot believe that people will complain about energy prices and yet praise the green party for pushing away nuclear power!

The tragic Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster comes to mind, since it was within our lifetimes. I was 3 years old when Chernobyl happened during the Cold War. Although it is rare that there are nuclear disasters, it still is a concern since most of the facilities are 40+ years old.

@@biteofdog Even if I grant you those concerns, high estimates say Chernobyl might have caused 100k excess deaths through radiation exposure. @cadenceew7933 The fact remains that nuclear power is _extremely_ expensive to build new capacity of, and there is no solution to where in Germany the radioactive waste will be bunkered for centuries to millenia. With the cost of ensuring safe storage over such a long period of time being another immensely intense cost factor. Thr correct thing to have done wiuld have been to push through keeping the already running plants open, while acknowledging that new ones are not economical and then push renewables in combination with battery technology. Also, your roommate should not forget that it was the CDU/CSU who finally codified the nuclear exit into law. Yes, the greens wanted it, but without that groundwork they likely wouldn't have been able to shut down any plants within this legislative period.

The problem with people being upset at how the government is handling economic issues in Canada is that everyone is planning to vote Conservative next year. The Conservatives are the guys who created these problems to begin with. The Conservatives were the party that continually expanded the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, instead of only allowing in high-skilled workers, they were the ones who said "why not let in minimum wage workers too?" And who was it that killed Canada's social housing program? Conservatives there too. Conservatives are largely business owners and landlords. And everyone is like "Yeah these guys are going to help boost wages and lower the cost of housing!" Because you know the people who are most concerned about high wages and cheap housing are employers and landlords.

There’s so much junk out there in this genre, especially here on KZbin (those ‘China has 26 more days before it collapses’ videos come to mind), and it’s really refreshing to have a more sober take on these things from someone who seems to actually care :)

Another Australian Note if Atrioc ever looks at the Australian housing crisis again. (I am Currently a poor Australian Uni student). Our current government in power Labor pulling a rather cringe move has opted to put through the ‘Build to Rent’ bill which in laymen’s terms has looked at our history of using tax incentives to push interest into property and come away from it thinking “Nah but with these incentives it’ll be different surely”. Not only that it seems to be entirely missing the mark on what the problem is, the problem isn’t that Australians hate houses and if only we could rent more. It’s that we’ve become so jaded at the idea of ever owning a property that we’ve opted to just drop out. Of the key points, “BTR tax incentives are designed to help increase housing supply for renters by encouraging investment, including managed investment trusts (MITs) investments by foreign investors, in the BTR sector.”, seems to be the most preposterous. I don’t think there’s anyone who would see the current real estate landscape and walk away from it thinking, if only an investment trust could own more. That would really take the load off of me so I could rent for a little longer. Also I for the most part have been a labor supporter, but it feels as though more and more, the parties that are seemingly for the working people keep opting to take the easy money. All in all, rather lame.

I get what your saying but its not just the government, a lot of people have their money tied up in housing and any policy that would reduces prices, including rent, scares them so they punish politicians who push any idea that might help with housing in Australia, just look at what happens in previous elections before the most recent one … people cry crocodile tears about the housing crisis but ask them if they would really support house prices dropping and you’ll find out it’s not just the politicians because they could put all the greatest housing policies to the public , but if no one votes for them then what’s the point, better to then find work around which aren’t perfect but at least they do something

I want to add to the innovation and the EU competetivness. Coming from an ex Soviet Union country the economic development and innovation has been very rapid - and not just in catching up with the West, but also going further in many areas (for example using the internet to automate bureaucracy and make it just a much better experience). While you probably haven't heard of Estonia, you most definitely have heard of companies like Skype or Bolt, with many new unicorns emerging especially in cyber security. The general lack of innovation as for the whole of Europe is indeed a problem (as a country with 1.2m population cannot carry the entire country, unlike California in the US). Currently living in Italy, I feel this general sense that life is already good - so why innovate and drive further if you can just drink wine and watch the sunset? And I wholeheartedly believe this is also the main reason for the success of the US - because you have to work so hard just to live "normally" it just creates an environment that has a higher likelihood of generating these 1 in a million success stories and pushes people to innovate and improve their lives. Similarly you could look at the innovation in Ukraine right now - despite them suffering immensely from the war, this very same suffering is what sets the groundwork for this innovation, as people want to improve their lives instead of settling for an already good life.

I am a 24-year-old in a job as a semiconductor engineer at an Intel supplier. I worked in higher education federal lobbying after graduating until starting this job. I have been exceedingly fortunate to find this job (through a college friend/classmate) and I make nearly six figures in the PNW. I had to move across the country for it and am still finding my new social circle. Despite my - admittedly - privileged, current financial situation, I STILL spend so much time anxiously worrying about my family's stability. I can't imagine how my friends with other opportunities stress about it too; when it feels like the quality of life left over from previous generations is now too expensive for a reasonable, full-time job.

I’m a 22 year old blue collar worker from Alberta, Canada and your two videos on the economic state of Canada and the rise of college prices really resonated with me. I dropped out of uni my first year, because I was already certified to work in a trade from a course in high school (was also failing engineering but that’s not important) and I CANNOT overstate how happy I am that I got out before getting major student loan dept. I managed to get a house this year but my job pays me well and that was a challenge, there’s no way someone coming out of school with loads of student debt even has a chance. There’s multiple people at my job with degrees who then got their ticket to work here because their degrees don’t even come close to helping them earn a livable wage with how expensive everything is here. It’s very odd to see you describe all the difficulties of our economy when I can clearly see it, especially with people around my age, but luckily not necessarily have to worry as much myself. Love the videos Big A💯

For two sided markets like amazon, in theory, it's exactly the same squeezing the supply or the demand side for more money. At the end of the day, either prices go up to account for the cut taken, goods offered are less or of less quality. You always squeeze the most sofisticated side, works the same with taxes, because if you take the cut from the consumer, in this case, they get mad, but the people selling the book also get mad because they know what's going on. If you squeeze the supply, then they get mad but the average person is oblivious of what's going on or even thinks the authors are greedy. As with taxes, what matters is the relative price elasticity of supply and demand, something you should mention when talking about tariffs as well. If it's insuline, where the demand has very little elasticity (if price goes up, you demand about the same amount of insuline, either you need it or you don't) then any tax or subsidy will hit almost exclusively the demand. If it's something like tickets for a sport, then the amount of seats is pretty much fixed on the short term, so taxes and subsidies will mostly hit the supply.

As a current mechanical engineering major I just simply don’t see the inability to get a job after college, it seems like the only ones unable are people with majors that are known to be poor degrees like communications and basic business. Yet those are the vast majority of the majors I see. Could you look into any correlation between major and unemployment, should people who do majors that are easy and oversaturated expect to not be able to get jobs? Like are those the ones that get dropped first when the economy is in downturn? Obviously not including Comp sci. I feel bad for them because they are some of the smartest barista’s I’ve ever met. 5:30 Yep, I'm Canadian and I'm fucking jaded as fuck since covid. I used to be proud of my nationality growing up. Now I'm fucking embarassed by the state we are in. All our institutions are getting bled dry by our corrupt provincial goverments. Trudeau is kinda useless but is also constantly used as a ridiculous scapegoat for everything and people eat it up because they have no clue how our political system work. We are getting price gouged like crazy, everything is a shit oligarchy with limited choice (bell or rogers, loblaws or metro, conservative or liberal, red or blue), our wages are stagnent, housing is out of control.... I'm just so mad at how shit things are becoming and that so many of my fellow canadians are just so clueless about how much we are getting fucked in the ass by our incompetent and corrupt goverment. I can only see things getting worst in the near feature with that clown Polievre probably winning next election, Ford still selling out Ontario and Trudeau being useless (fuck him for going back on his electoral reform promises). Canada is in a bad spot.

Hi Atrioc, your skepticism about Germany and the EU is understandable. There are definitely aspects about the EU that make being competitive extremely sluggish in comparison to America and other markets. However, I think the case that you mentioned of Germany crashing out is quite unlikely. In this particular election, the fact that the center right (CDU) can nostalgia bait would-be AfD voter will probably avoid the scenario you outlined. Older Germans are much more cautious towards change (of any kind) and they will see CDU as a safe alternative to vote for and kick out the Ampel coalition from power. I would also say that there are some advantages the EU has comparatively to the US. Examples of EU policy innovations: Apple needing to have type C USB, improved right to repair, data privacy, rather broad sustainability/circular economy measures. In general, these changes are not as GDP/line goes up focused, because the cheapest most efficient way to do something typically has a cost that is not measured accurately by these metrics. Fossil fuels are the cheapest source of energy, but the true cost is simply shifted towards the erosion of environmental "wealth". This is an aspect that I think is important to keep in mind when comparing the EU with America.

Hey Big A, KZbin Canadian frog here. Glad to get some attention! Couple of questions: First and main question, How is it decided what content goes on the main channel vs. the clips channel? For example, as of writing, “Get To Work” was just released today, and something about it should’ve been on the main channel to reach as many people as possible before launch. But with the game released now, there is nothing on the main channel and only the clips. Even then, the video title and thumbnail announcing the game don’t really stand out as a game announcement but just a normal clip, and the views reflect that as it sits fairly in the middle regarding view counts when comparing to other videos released around the same time. EDIT: Well now there is an announcement video but I feel my point still largely stands as it wasn’t released until after the games launch. Another example is during the UAW strike. I found it odd that there wasn’t much talk about it on the main channel-maybe a couple of mentions here or there in videos. Yet, a few months later on the clips channel, a full Marketing Monday video was released that focuses on the strike and the history of the UAW and is, quite frankly, one of my favorite Atrioc videos. Honestly, I have watched it multiple times and even showed it to friends who didn’t know anything about the strike. Hell, even the interview with Whodat about Amazon could’ve been a main channel video, as you have done very similar things in the past with chatters, and it was a very entertaining and informative video. So, to sum it up, how is it decided what goes on the main channel vs. the clips channel? It feels like the clips channel is taking a way bigger priority over the main channel and is starting to eclipse it. For those who don’t know about the clips channel, they are missing quite a lot of quality content when honestly some of it is even higher quality than what goes on the main channel. Second question: As a Canadian, I would love to throw away my Monopoly money and buy some Nortel merch, but I don’t particularly like hats or quarter zips. Is there a plan maybe for just a regular sweater or t-shirt? Even if you don’t answer, thank you for your time. I love the videos, and keep up the great work! P.S. If this does get answered on stream, editor, please put it in a video, or if a kind chatter could post it on Reddit, as I will never see it otherwise. Thanks!
