Back in the mid-70s, I was a teenager and a huge fan of Bruce Lee. I talked my mom and stepdad into taking me to see this. I think it was playing with one of his other first two movies. In any case, it was a real treat. I think it was when the movie was first released in this country. What a great talent he was!

that kick at 5:14 looks crazier than most CGI nowadays, daaang! :D Man if u knew how hard it is to get the nunchukls so perfectly at the exact same position under the arm each time, and in that speed and from the angles he uses them for it is just insane That last move in the combo at 9:15, check the speed and angle and how little he move his upper arm to get it perfectly there, if u ever tried nunchucks u know what skills he had with them, he literally hit with the nunchuck on the upper part of his head, then moved it first to chest level and then under his arm :) But yea nunchucks are fun, can't count how many times I hit myself with them, I mean if u rly want to learn and improve, u need to have the guts to improve the speed to uncomfortable spins and it leads to some fun times :D

It’s not clear from this due to (a) the whole film being dubbed into English and (b) the removal of context, but up until that point the restaurant people thought he was just some country bumpkin who, unlike them, couldn’t even speak nor read English, so (with the exception of one of them) thought that he was utterly useless. As an example, at the point in this dub when Bruce says “We’ll show him Chinese boxing!”, in the original version he was simply asking his friend to interpret to the Western attackers that he was about to demonstrate kung-fu, with the friend then saying “Chinese boxer!” in English to the attackers. Also, according to an audio commentary on the Hong Kong Legends DVD release, the reason for the term “Chinese boxing” is that many Westerners at the time of original release were not familiar with the term “Kung-fu” - at least, not until Jon Benn’s character in this film said it! That thug says “Mamma mia!” as the film is set in Rome, Italy (Bruce Lee broke new ground here by shooting a Hong Kong film outside of Asia), although the interiors and fight scenes were actually shot on sets in the studios in Golden Harvest, Hong Kong. (Interestingly enough, that “Mamma mia!” line is the only Italian dialogue in the whole film despite where it is set!)

How does it feel to get hit with nunchucks? If the strike is powerful enough, it's a real, solid, wooden nunchuck and it's aimed to the head, I'm pretty sure it can be fatal. My dad had one of those, he actually taught me a few moves with it, while practicing I hit myself a few times, and although I was around 8 years old and my swings weren't powerful at all, they hurt really bad. Now imagine someone swinging as rapidly as Bruce did, I wouldn't give a normal person more than 3 strikes to the head before they are seriously, if not fatally injured. I actually ended up getting practice nunchucks with a foam layer on top to brush up my skills from time to time, I think I could at least make an effort at defending myself.

Way of the Dragon is the first martial arts comedy before Jackie Chan took off with the genre years later. Bruce was way ahead of his time. Although it was funny as hell, those fights and beatdowns were second to none. MAMMA MIA!!!!!!!!
