Joke on her was he knew he was sterile from high school but his father didn't know because he live with his mom. Buddy suspected she was cheating with his dad and played the long game. When the kid was born, he waited until his mother and father came onto the room and told them "he looks just like me, he has his father eyes. Welcome to the world little brother." At that moment everyone else in the room understood what happened. His father tried saying some bs. He told them he didn't use condoms because he trusted his gf, he knew he couldn't get her pregnant. Alright, unpopular take but in story 1 I think the mom deserves some slack. She was told by her husband and her son’s fiancée that he was abusive and, having no reason to distrust either of the believed it and lashed out. The INSTANT she saw proof of her son’s innocence she didn’t try to double down on the lie or anything like that. She turned her anger on the people who deserved it and immediately tried to apologize. I’m not sure what was said, but I don’t think she’s a bad person. She was sad, confused and angry and believed she had to and was trying to protect the people she loved from someone else she loved. That’s an awful situation to be in. She lost as much as op in their exchange, just from the other side.

That's because when it comes to judging her, it would all come down to outcome bias, as per seen in the responses above me. I've read a lot of reddit stories, and the responses to parents finding out stuff like this really depends on the outcome. If a parent "Trusts their family" without a second thought and that trusting turns out to be correct, they are praised for sticking out for their family and being a supportive family member, that a family member should always trust their family in situations like these. If the same thing happens but the trust in their family turns out to be wrong, they are seen to be stupid and horrible people. In this case specifically, the mother had every right to assume what she did when they came up to her. One, the father had visible injuries on his face due to the punch OP hit so that could serve as evidence, and two, there was absolutely no way she was going to assume that her husband was actually sleeping with her son's fiancé and lying about what actually happened, in the exact same way that OP was never gonna just assume that they were fucking behind his back on his own and needed to see it for himself to realize.

I disagree with blaming the mom in Story 1. She got mad because she was told by her HUSBAND that their son hit him. She had no reason to believe otherwise since she’s trusted this man for years. While I do think she could’ve chilled out, we need to understand that she would never think her husband would have an affair with her son’s fiancé because of how unbelievable it is. I understand he's angry because of what happened and his mother was berating him terribly. But she's also just have her entire life crumble in front of her. My guess is that OP will forgive her, but in this case, I think you are missing am important part: The trauma OP had swelling inside him by the time he reached his mother's house was enough that most men would lose their sense of self-preservation and not make it. Then the insults and abandonment she gave didn't just add to the stress, but compounded it many times over to a point that most people would self-delete. But because you aren't privied to his suicide note, you assume he must have the mental fortitude to even have empathy for himself? (BTW, the trauma isn't the same as she only had one pillar crushed while he had all three) There have been studies on the reason that male suicide rates are so high, especially focusing on husbands/fathers who become the crutch that pulls their family through hard times... what they found is that the one person's mental health that is often the most neglected is the man, as they don't have the luxury to escape from the world and heal.... bills have to be paid, arrangements have to be made, food has to be bought and cooked.... I remember one interview in particular that was quite tellingz the couple were interviewed years later about their grieving process due to a miscarriage. The man was asked how he grieved and he said "Between caring for my wife, making the calls to our loved ones, and making sure to maintain our lifestyle so that our finances won't lead her back into depression... by the time I had a chance to grieve it was 5-6 months later and too late." In short, OP is too far gone into his own trauma to be any kind of support for anyone. By the sounds of it, he seems to have started to regain empathy a few months later, and might end up bonding with his mom in their grief. But not at the start.
