Girl don’t be embarrassed about changing your major! I changed mine back and forth several times and I even took a 5 year break from college. Stumbling upon your channel last summer (it was your moving into the Pi Phi house video) helped inspire me to go back to school! It made me less self conscious to go back at the age of 25, since you yourself didn’t start right after high school. Keep on following your passion and don’t focus on the major! Seeing your content makes my day brighter😊

Lauren I totally feel you! My major was psych and family development, with the intention of going into child life. I did a practicum, applied to FIFTEEN practicums and only heard back from two which one was the one I got. Took certs and classes online to help me with pre reqs. I ended up dropping the idea of becoming a CCLS, because it’s FAR too competitive for not the best pay. It’s now been 7 years or so since I dropped the idea and I’m working in the hospital as a psych counselor (working with kiddos who have mental illness/suicidal) and love it. But so much of what you said during this video I FEEL you….. exact same reason I dropped it too. Just know things will work out :)

I understand that feeling of almost being embarrassed to change majors or change your mind after originally thinking you’re so sure you want to do it and talking about it. I know everybody’s telling you it’s totally normal, and it is - but also know that you approached this decision very logically - you have very very good reasons, it’s not like you just woke up one day and you were like ::flip your hair:: I think I just wanna do something else instead for no reason. You have approached this very rationally and logically and to me it shows how good of a head you have on your shoulders and you’re very smart about this so I wish you all the best and you’re gonna go far girl💖

Omg! I had no idea that so much went into being a child life specialist. The one that worked with us at our hospital was so so sweet and amazing with our son and I’m so grateful. It makes me upset that people don’t take that seriously. Also the internship process and all that sounds SO SO STRESSFUL. NOPE. I don’t blame you for switching. I too changed my major ( from psych to mass comm) and I don’t regret it. I’m so proud of you for changing and so proud of you for being so open and honest with us. Love you.

I loved hearing your story and I really relate to the decline of physical/mental health from school. I was in a grad program for athletic training, and realized it was not worth the struggle anymore when I started questioning if it was even what I wanted to do anymore. I quit, moved back to the city that I love, and now I'm going to be starting work as a personal trainer instead. I wish you luck in your new major/minor. I know how hard it is to quit something that you put so much work into.

Lauren, I'm your age, a 6th year in undergrad and I changed my major! Thank you for posting about this! It's okay and I always find it hard to remember that I am on my own timeline and it may be different from everyone else's. I am different for graduating later at an older age and that is okay! It's so so hard to remember when everyone graduates early/on time and seemingly has the perfect college experience.

Many college graduates don't fully use their degree! But college is about learning and growing, and not just with academics! I don't use my full degree, but I can honestly say college molded me into a well rounded individual, and that's what really matters! And always remember, everything happens for a reason! There's a reason you were meant to change your major!! Love your videos girl, keep them coming!

I think it's so amazing that you changed your major and I really hope things get better 💖💖

GIRL I'm in graduate school right now and I feel everything you just said! My current program requires both Practicum and Internship, which are both unpaid and I had to find my site myself. Which isn't bad but also doesn't set you up for success. thankfully I found a site, but so many people didn't. and once I was in it, there was so much work that I burned myself out within the first two weeks of the semester. I decided to change my program with one year left in graduate school and I am sooooo happy. Change can be weird but it is never too late to change your mind. Thank you for sharing!!

10 years ago, my cousin was a child life specialist at one of the best childrens hospitals in the country for a few years post-grad. Although she had a psychology major/child life concentration (switched to that from literally musical theatre), she no longer works there and I have so many friends who are in it and their majors are not related to the field. So even if you wanted to do that one day you could; the door isn’t closed forever because of this one experience at UA. We live in a world where your major honestly matters maybe 50% of what it used to- the broader the major, the more you can do. Creative media minor is perfect for you, and the right job will fall into place ❤️

When so was in college, I wanted to become a child play therapist. I had to have a psychology BA. I was in my third year and they told me the same thing about the limited availability of spaces for the next step. I ran to my advisor after class and said I needed to find something else. She pointed me to education. I ran to the education department and they told me they couldn’t talk to me until I changed my major. My psychology advisor and I awkwardly changed my major and she signed me up for classes. Now I teach English and am doing my MA in Education with a focus in Bibliotherapy in schools. Stressful but worth it.

I was in the same boat. I started college as a Biology and Anthropology double major. Unfortunately, the college only had so many open spots for each course even through most of the school was STEM majors. I found it mentally draining to have to wait months to see if I was able to get a spot in the course. Along the way, I found that I wanted to focus more on Anthropology and Healthcare. So after 6 years of undergraduate courses, I switched to being an Anthropology and Health double major. This allowed me to go to graduate school to receive my Master in Public Health (MPH) degree. In the beginning, it feels like the world is ending because we have spent so much time and energy working towards a certain degree. It's okay to feel scared or uncertain on how our futures are going to look. I don't regret my decisions and I am more confident now than I was before my major change on how successful I will be in the future during medical school.

I did the exact same thing Lauren. I went through the the same stuff. Except I actually went as far as completing the practicum before I figured it out. You are a step ahead and be glad you didn’t go any further. Also, same girl. The whole internship process for Child Life is insane. I was like this is NOT it. My mental health was declining. Also, not to mention IF you are lucky enough to even land an internship you will 100% be relocating which is $ because it most like will be a random city where you don’t have family/ friends. Also I remember having to do Hospital visits for child life. They are usually called child life 101. Basically you learn everything you need to know about the internship process and meet with the child life specialist. Needless to say I left their feeling even more defeated knowing my odds

Don't be embarrassed. I have an Associate of Arts degree that I changed from Graphic Design to a Liberal Arts degree with it. Then when I was grandfathered into my University of choice I was a Junior/Senior level and I thought I wanted to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in Video Production, but that didn't work out and I didn't like it as much as I thought. So I changed it to History and I was much happier since it's a subject I actually loved to learn about and I could get just about any job with that honestly. College is the time for you to change things and try things out because you really don't know if you will LOVE something from those summaries they give you in the catalogs of what the majors are until you try it and realize it wasn't what you wanted or thought it would be. :) I hope you enjoy your new major and you enjoy learning new things in your minor! You're doing just fine girl, keep at it and you can always take away from this that you gained more knowledge and that's NEVER a bad thing!

i see what you mean about "growing out" of your sorority. i mean it could just be you since you are older than an average college student (which is not a bad thing) and since you are busy with pagents, traveling, and other things, it's not a major priority in your life anymore. I feel like thats a thing for a lot of upperclassmen in sororities since they end up getting too busy with internships, work, and other things. i'm in a non-panhellenic soroity and even though i'm a junior and joined this past august, i still understand your feeling of feeling like you're growing out of it. i also feel you about changing your major. i have no direction at all about what i want to do and right now i'm just sticking with history education because i like history and i want to be someone positive and supportive for adolescent aged kids (middle-high school kids) however, i am pretty unsure if i actually want to teach, but i'm like too far in too change my major without being in college for like 6+ years total. so i'm just sticking with it and hoping i acutally like it when i start student teaching

Good for you for pivoting! The most important thing is pursuing what you love and are good at! You really don't need college. Unless you are a doctor or engineer or something, college is showing you can jump through hoops, pay a lot of money and have a "degree" at the end to prove it. The cost is ridiculous and this whole unpaid internship requirement is BS. We never had that requirement when I was in college back in the day. I've heard of a lot of college kids working for free.

I'm also a HDFS Major w/a Child Life Concentration at Bam (online) and I'm planning on changing it as well, most likely dropping the concentration due to the absolute *INSANITY* that the practicum and the internships are. I love the idea of being a CCLS and helping kiddos, but right now it's not in the cards at all for all that unneeded stress.

I did the same thing but luckily all the classes I took work for the other major so I'm extremely lucky I don't have to take more prerequisites 😅❤️❤️❤️

Thanks for sharing about your major. I'm honestly really nervous about finally starting my major's classes in August. I also just got a new job and that has me incredibly anxious to start.

Omg… that sounds sooo much!!!! I’m so glad you dropped that. It’s OK. I dropped out of college . Because I didn’t know what I was doing and it just triggered my mental health 😩.

You should wear that color blue more often. It works with your eyes perfectly!

I literally decided I didn't want to do what I had wanted to do my entire life two semesters to the end of college...it happens. I'm still trying to figure out for sure what I want to do and, almost 20 years down the road, am thinking about revisiting my original plan. These decisions are tough.

With my friends I’ve seen that sororities become more of a job than a social outlet after freshman year. They don’t always respect that you have other commitments like a job and that your sorority can’t be priority one.
