Great advice Mark. I have only been playing for a year, and have opted to just play with a pub golf society. I am improving slowly but good shot or bad I am loving every minute, mostly because of the company and their supportive, fun-loving attitude to the game.

Same. $40 for a weekly game, 2 free beers and a great meal after the local 9 hole. Never worried about a miss hit, never mad. Everything is laughed off. One of the guys is a retired pga pro as well, you never know who you'll meet.

I'm 73years young best video I've watched,almost everyone too serious don't do this don't do that,everyone who plays wants to play better, relax and let it happen the more tense you are the more tired you become the less you enjoy because it's then you make the most mistakes.Also drink and eat at the right times energy is a big part of a good round expecially as you get older.Great Video thanks

Driver advice hits home for me. I play in a league where we play difference games regularly. Once recently was to use the best drive in the group, then each person plays their own shot from then out. Recoreded a 38 for 9 holes against a par of 36 on a relatively challenging course, about 10 shots better than my usual. Being in good position to hit an approach shot is a big deal!

Simple, easy and awesome tips. The club up on approach is something I just started implementing in the past month. I really just got tired of coming up short, having long putts and having to put everything in it on approach!! Great stuff.

I tried the “play the back yardage” method and it was brilliant. Soaked course in the rain and shot 3 over through 13 until I was rained out. Fabulous! Love this video and tips. Common sense so much I made notes in my yardage book/scorebook to remind myself. :)

Been playing for many years and recently found something with my driver that makes me hit more fairways with it.....and my handicap has dropped down to single figures. It doesn't go as far as it used to BUT I make more fairways and I've been amazed as to how much more confident it has made me too. It definitely is now my best and most effective legal cheat. Love the other 'cheats' too and especially the one about picking the back of the green yardage. Top notch as always Mark.

Hi Mark - great video - I first picked up a golf club 10 months ago and play off 15.7, the biggest “cheat” I do is to make sure you refuel with food as you go round, it’s amazing how tired you get by the time you reach the 15th hole and if you’re running low on energy your swing goes and you can ruin a potentially good round! Keep up the great vids!

How refreshing to watch an instructional video, suggesting the easier/easiest option. As a former golf coach, I appreciate that, with all the equipment advances and teaching aids, golfers have not improved as they should have. Even today, I still see golfers playing with equipment, totally unsuitable to their skill set. I grew up on a seaside links, where trying to stop a ball, on a green, was akin to trying to stop it on a marble staircase. We learned to get the ball rolling asap and if an obstacle was in the way we hit a soft lob, with an open faced pitching wedge, because that's all we had!

Good common sense, Mark. I'm back after about 20 years. I've been trying to get better with the longer clubs, but my longest straightest club at the moment is my 6 hybrid. I'm working up to driver! Trying to hit the back of the green really will help me.

Excellent advice. I only ever aim at the middle of greens and I look at the distance to the back - trouble is usually at the front. I only 'chip' with a lofted club if I have to get over something, otherwise I use a 7,8 or 9 iron and keep it low and only do that if I can't putt it - if you can keep it on the ground then keep it on the ground - and for info my index is 5.7

Excellent video. One exception to your advice, on courses where the back of the green is elevated with a big drop off, you are much better off to be just short of the green than over., especially when the greens are small. An uphill putt or chip to the hole is a preferred shot to a chip from behind the green with a dramatic slope down to the hole where getting the chip to stop close to the hole is difficult at best.

Great tips Mark. I have been asking my pro for help with driving since I started and he always focuses on 7 and 8 iron. I am now having a lesson next week which is driving only. I hit it a long distance but it always fades which gets me into trouble. Lets hope he gives me great advice and I can get better at driving straight.
@Zellieth
@Zellieth Жыл бұрын
Are you activating your legs and hips at the top of your backswing in order to begin your downswing? When I do it properly, I change from a Fade to a nice Draw because my hands naturally pass the ball before the clubhead which is caused by my now open hips. And when I say activate legs and hips, I mean actually torque and twist your hip. Not just shift the weight forward.

Some good tips there, thank you, Mark. As a 25.56 handicapper I have always hit a putt up to the hole, never past it. I don't like the theory never up never in because if you go 6 feet past you have a tricky putt back again. I have 3 putted a lot till I had my Putter fitting. I do have my arms a bit forward for the Driver, and having seen your starting position and alignmen, I will give that a go, thank you. I am in my retirement years now, and I saw a guy in my age group on another golf channel who demonstrated just going round the course with a 7 Iron and a Putter. It was aimed at people like me that don't hit it that far, but still far enough to play bogey golf, and it works..

Another great tip which is similar to aiming for the back of the green, is to take one extra club and swing easy. As a good golfer, I get into trouble when I start swinging too hard and my transition is too quick. Swinging hard/fast puts too much spin on the ball causing it to go sideways and wedges spin back too much when the ball hits the green. Slowing my swing down helps me hit the ball solid and straight, even in the wind, and it's especially helpful when I'm hitting short irons and wedges.

Another point to add when choosing clubs for approach shots, know your ACTUAL distance average for your clubs. Meaning, every approach shot you make, pay attention to where the ball lands not where it ends up. Knowing this will help you choose the right club when trouble is around the green. Also knowing where the pin is and the distance to front middle and back. Most, if not all, amateurs should be going for the middle of the green giving them more room for error and better chances of hitting the green. I've used this the last few years and now keep my 8-10 hcp more consistently. I also agree with the driver tips you give, that's where I get my double + bogeys when playing. Everytime I get one it's more often than not my tee shot that causes them.
