Extremely coooool and interesting video. I am amazed at the great sounds you are coaxing out of these inexpensive instruments!

What a treasure trove of appalling delights! The Casio is, as Casios very often are, pure plasticky genius. Your bends have added extra mind-bend, and that all goes to the good. The beats, in particular, take on unlikely heft and depth. The samples you played from lead ROMpler instruments hold their shape and integrity very well (no doubt a few must suck, but then in the normal clocking there are some weak sounds) which tells us Casio put in some solid work on the those little snippets of sound and their mapping and integration. The changes from your bend to pitch and pitch shifting and delay were lovely, but those effects were more predictable. Best of all, you achieved this without breaking the normal set-up of the keyboard and engine. Thanks for the update.

Simon, you're far more brave than I am, plus far better with electronics than I can ever hope to be. I wouldn't risk modding my VA-10 for fear of wrecking it, but damn, you got some amazing results out of yours 👍 BTW, I see you got yourself a GZ-5! See if you can mod it to fit real pitch and modulation wheels. As standard they're just switches!

I got a Casio where the fine tuning pot was damaged by a careless screwdriver. After hacking it to work I came up with a true pitch bender. A stiff metal leaf spring sticking up with the tuning slug connected in the middle inside of an added coil. No dead zone or slop, vibrato is best done the same as bending one way but with a wiggle. It doesn't send midi but sounds linear and more human. Finished it off with a pair of "Leslie" effect boxes hacked inside and breath volume control.

I use to have that same Digitech vocal processor but I had to double rack space one, studio vocalist, way back in 1998 got some great vocal sounds too.

Fantastic! I own a VA10 and have always wondered what a circuit bent version would sound like. Lemme know if you'd be willing to bend mine, now that you've found success with yours! Cheers!

i have one also! if you short out some of the pins on the effects chip, you get some interesting results sometimes! found some looping effects that way!

i also added an internal feedback circuit, so i can flip a switch and dial in the amount from output back through the input!

why this isn't a feature on every piece of digital hardware (and plugin tbh) I have no idea, tempted to dig into my Alesis Quadraverb and see if I can find the clock crystal and mod it. This was really beautiful.
