This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

No shame in taking a day off, get some rest and sunshine. Dealers probably have the best immune systems of any profession; they touch all the cards, chips, etc and go from table to table.

Now that you have dealt non hold'em games will that change your game selection when you go back to playing?

If you're good at Omaha-8, Orleans is the only place to make money. Southpoint has it, but it's low stakes and without a kill, I think. I've considered Omaha-8 and PLO-8, but it's too late to learn a new game.

@@VegasPokerNomad I've considered this recently as well. I feel like in 8/16 you are capped at like $15/hr if you are good. 15/30 would probably be more like $25/hr but game availability may be a problem. Plus you are starting now and obviously the regulars have been playing these games for years. Agree its just too late to switch

Then you're not pitching correctly. If you went to school they would have showed you how to do you wouldn't feel pain in your wrist or shoulder. Try to find out from another dealer and practice. Getting the proper pitch down is extremely important for YOU!

Unfortunately as a dealer your touching everything....cards, chips, money. Not a job for someone who sufffers from Mysophobia. On the other hand, I tell people, you develop the strongest anti-bodies in the world lol. Just remember, health comes first. Without that, there is little else. One more thing. For a dealer who deals only hold-em to deal Pot-limit Omaha is very easy, just takes a bit of practice and remembering a few things...it's a flop game just like hold-em with 4 betting rounds...pre-flop, flop, turn, river. Just like hold-em. The differences...they get 4 cards instead of two, players must play two in their hand, three on the board to make their hand. To calculate pot, keep track of pot size, if someone pots with a bet before them, it's three times that bet plus everything else. Without that bet, it's just everything else. That's basically the long and short of it. If straddles, add straddle to a pot bet, in tournaments usually pre-flop straddle is not calculated. bingo-bango.
