Peridot is very affectionate towards Lapis, but Lapis is still traumatised from her time with Jasper and doesn't yet feel she is ready to let herself get too close with another gem... Peridot has never had a friend (or girlfriend, depending on how you want to interpret this lol) before, and so is confused and doesn't quite get the social cues, and ends up being a little clingy :')
They look weird because this is my AU where instead of being sentient rocks, the gems are alien bugs! The story is mostly the same just with less magic and more sci-fi and scientifically plausible stuff lol.
