@@lexisaucedoHi Lexi, if you liked his jazz singing style here, I recommend his version of “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” with his later band, some of whom followed him to Australia from LRB. The solos in it are incredible. They’re all like a family and John is always generous in his praise when each one does a solo. Some of them have been with him for over 30 years now.

When Glenn was fired as lead singer in LRB John was asked to step in. He was so unhappy but he is very giving, he wanted to sing his music. The band were nasty because they wanted John to stand still and sing, they were the stars they thought. John has always shared the stage equally with everyone, he never thinks he is the main attraction. John couldn’t stand still to save his life. They did things like having his microphone stand taped to the floor, having the leads on his microphone shortened and more but he still gave them his best and the respect they did not deserve. I will never watch or listen to LRB again. I only did this time because John was singing. Thank you.

G'day Lexi.... Seems you are already acquainted with John and many of his videos. There are a few you didn't mention I think are perfect for your own musical style and interests as a vocal coach. 1) a very young John ( Johnny back then ) covering Simon & Garfunkels " Bridge Over Troubled Waters " live. 2) Two live videos from the Australian 1990's production of Jesus Christ Superstar. a) Gethsemane - solo from a filmed performance. b) Everything's Alright - Full cast live for an Australian TV show called Hey Hey It's Saturday........an impromptu Amazing Grace is added as an extra if you watch the full video. 3) Lifted Up By Angel's - a live duet with vocal coach and loyal backing vocalist Lisa Edwards. A possible 5th video would be Amazing Grace featuring Vanetta Fields and Lindsay Field ( another 2 loyal backing vocalists and despite the surnames are not related. lol ) Cheers.

So many brilliant performances of John's to react to; one that is strangely under-rated is - Listen to the Wind - I can't choose a favourite but this one is amazing! Always listen to him LIVE if you can, his interaction and reaction to his audience and band cannot be matched IMO. Angels with long time backing singer Lisa Edwards shows more of his humour- then he morphs seamlessly into the Voice of an angel!.

John loves to mess around, having fun on the stage; plus a good comic personality, and loves to play around with the mic stand. Check out his performance of his signature song You're The Voice from this concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra; watch carefully after the bagpipes, for his 'baton twirling' of the mic stand.

Thanks for another great reaction Lexi, I really enjoyed this. What I like with all of your reactions is that you clearly love music & singing but when you are watching an elite vocalist, the enjoyment is clear in your smile and your whole face lights up which in turn makes us viewers smile, so thank you 🙂🙏 After doing a search on your channel I couldn't see any Matt Corby. As a pure artist, I'd definitely dive into his catalog, starting with his first hit "Brother", but do the live version on Triple J's "Like a Version" that includes the prelude as it has Matt telling the DJ what the song is about before he performs it.

When John joined Little River Band, he felt a bit hog-tied due to the structure of the group; and when he started to be more himself, the band felt like they were a back-up band rather than the whole act. Eventually, John and the band realised that they could find common ground; so they went their own way.

Oh dear. When LRB first formed and became huge in Oz and the US, the lead singer was Glenn Shorrock, and the vocals and harmonies were very tight and disciplined, and their stage performance was as one well disciplined unit. Then Glenn left the band and was replaced by the irrepressible John, bouncing around the stage (and the vocals) like Tigger on a pogo stick. The rest of the band felt like they were a backup band for a soloist and were not happy at all. Nor were many of the fans - the repertoire virtually had to be rewritten for John's voice, including the fabulous Playing to Win, written by John himself. But keeping John to a strict melody would be like keeping water in a sieve. It just didn't work. But even though he reckons he bombed in LRB, he credits the experience with being the vehicle to hone his vocal and stage skills. When John left LRB he also took David Hirschfelder with him, and David was his musical director and keyboardist for decades, and is responsible for fabulous arrangements, including the concert production of JC Superstar in 1992 in which John played Jesus. But I digress. John's manager and lifetime friend Glenn Wheatley (until his death in 2022) literally bet his own home on John's solo career. They came across this rather promising song called You're The Voice, asked for the writer's permission to record it, were told No, recorded it anyway and the rest, as they say, is history. Glenn Shorrock rejoined LRB when John left, but I don't think they reached the same fame after that.
