They want John back because he was an interim front man for LRB. On a personal note and coming from someone who can't sing one, I enjoy seeing your admiration for other peoples talent and appreciate the singers perspective that you bring. It helps a tone deaf person like myself appreciate the artists even more.

I think john became so well known in Australia that many didn’t appreciate his great talent. Now he has a health battle and may never sing again. I believe that he is one of the best performers ever, he has such a way of engaging with his audience and he is just so darn talented. I hope he recovers and I will always be grateful that he shared his incredible talent with us and was still able to keep it real and not be up himself.

Ha glad that request made it through. I grew up with John being omnipresent on radio, to the point where I admit I basically took him for granted, or didn't really pay too much attention to him. It wasn't really until a few years ago that I spontaneously had the urge to see what he was like singing with the Little River Band - and I landed on this video and was absolutely blown away by the stage presence and performance. After that I went down the rabbit of hole of all the live performances I could find for him on KZbin (and others I never had the chance to see live). Suffice it to say I realised i'd missed out on a LOT.

@@rickandersen2284 I would never say out sings, mainly because they are from two completely different genres. They are at the pinical of their own respective styles of singing. OK, don't get upset! You know that John is my favorite singer of all time...period & he was great with Little River Band (one of my favorite bands - think I must be part Aussie) BUT I didn't like him as much with LRB as I did their original lead singer, Glenn Sharrock BECAUSE John's voice is SO powerful, he overpowered Beeb Birtles & Graeham Goble & their normal smooth 3 part harmonies. Glenn Sharrock blended perfectly with Beeb & Graeham. John needs to be a solo artist like he became again when he left LRB & just do occasional duets with whomever he chooses like Jimmy Barnes. So I'm not putting down the original LRB singers & I'm not putting down John, they're the best at what they do in their rightful places!😘 Here's why: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqaWiZ6af6tqeM0

It has been a joy watching you discover and fall in love with our "Voice" here in Australia. Words cannot express the depth of feeling we hold for this once in a universe talent, that's right - universe. A few special singers may have an element or two at the same level as John, but no one has every dimension of their art operating at the level this guy does. Tone, from crystalline to whiskey-soaked; timing, from comedic to dramatic; ANY genre, any key, any audience - he commands them all. As a technical singer, he is unsurpassed, and vocal analysts will still be trying to understand the mechanics of how he does what he does many years from now. But anyone who has seen him live will attest his performance presence is every bit equal to his technical brilliance. You cannot take your eyes off him, from the front row to the back of the stadium - if you look around at a Farnham concert, it is almost eerie to see how all eyes remain transfixed on him the entire time. He has worked incredibly hard at his craft, but the sheer mercurial beauty he is able to produce hints that, at times, even John may not know exactly the detail of what he does. He is evidence of powers greater than us in the universe - a conduit that allows us a glimpse of true awe and beauty.

Beeb Birtles the second guitarist takes the higher harmony on this track (and many others) A lot of the LRB fans did not like John joining the band.... the original singer Glenn Shorrock, although a fine vocalist, was pretty much a crooner who 'stayed in his lane' harmonically...unlike Farnham who uses his voice as an instrument (he doesn't actually play an instrument very well...he knows one song on the piano (help) and can strum a guitar) He's what I call a frustrated musician haha.... The bass guitarist (Wayne Nelson) left LRB to join Farnsey's backing band at one point. Great player and equally good singer.

Glenn Shorrock didn't necessarily leave, so much as he was fired so they could BRING John in.

@@kane29842 a bit of both really. Glenn wanted the band to take a break/rest. They didn't want to so they grabbed John rather than have a tired front man lacking enthusiasm. So you're right in that Glenn didn't leave but he also didn't want to continue.

To be honest John was not a good match for them and they should of seen that well before they signed him. Their music was polar opposites. For all his undeniable ability, he just didn't fit well with them at all.

John recorded with the little River Band before he made a comeback with "The Voice" and the other songs that you've watched. John Farnham has been making music and hits in Australia for over 50 years. He's had several "farewell" tours. We'll be well due for another farewell tour when the Covid restrictions ease up in Australia LOL He's just so perenially popular and the man can still belt out a tune!

Loved John singing for LRB, I know fans like Glenn Shorock, I think he's fine, but John just blows him out the water. You do hear some members hitting higher notes than John, they were all talented singers in LRB, they produced such beautiful harmonies. Check out their cover of When The War Is Over, one of my favs from the Farnham years. Cheers

When he was touring every concert he comes on at 8:30pm and doesn't leave until after the finale at 11pm then charges back out moments later for encores that go 10 more minutes! 6 nights a week, week after week! (the 7th day (Monday) he travelled between towns & cities.

Glen Shorrock was the original lead singer of the band. Glen was replaced as lead singer, and John took over. John lasted five years with the band.he Like John, Glen is legendary in the Australian music industry. Glen was a member of Axiom a group very popular in the late 60s and early 70s. That band had some very talented guys. Brian Cadd among them. Brian was well known for his song writing, and unique voice. He wrote a number of songs in the States while there. Jimmy Barnes was the wild boy of music in Oz, he grew up in a different world to John. I'm from South Australia and Jimmy grew up in Elizabeth in a very low income area. I had relations live in the same area. It was a tough life for a kid, and Jimmy had scars from that time of his life. He's much better with his life nowadays. Hope I have given some insight

There was a time, in Australia, when it was a sit down only concert era. Not sure why.

I knew it was only a matter of time before you found John's foray into being the front man for Little River Band. He fronted the band just before re-launching his solo career with (among other great albums) 'Whispering Jack' (the album that contained 'You're The Voice' and other great songs). LRB was known for their great harmonies and fans have wanted him back ever since he left. John was a great fit, but he really needed to be let loose to soar.

COME ON NOW, with coming correct on what Jimmy’s doing with his voice. You can’t “scream” for decades. That ish takes technique. I’m a Farnsey fan first, but I’ll accept no Barnsey slander on my watch 😉

I made a comment on one video where John and Jimmy were performing and I said that Jimmy was just screeching. I stand by that comment. I understand the gritty belt and Jimmy does have a real gravel - he sings really well, but the performance I saw was screeching. I stand by that too, especially as Jimmy himself said he gave a shocking vocal performance with John that night. So if the reference is to a post I made, that was me. Jimmy and John's performance on Something Is Wrong With My Baby is indicative of Jimmy's best singing IMO.

@@magpiegirl3783 I’m just saying as a professional singer of over 30 years, I can see his technique in what is frequently classified as a screeching. There are very specific types of vocal chords that are capable of it, it’s rare but defs a thing.
