I Crammed Learning Poker - Then Risked $500

I went from never studying poker, to cramming in 9hrs of learning to then risk $500 playing poker at a casino! See how well luck and studying from Daniel Negreanu last minute payoff in the real world #poker #cramming #casino #learning #danielnegreanu
Dealer Fundamentals I didn't know: The casino gives you $5 and $25 chips, even though the small blind and big blind are $1/$2. I didn't know you're supposed to just put a $5 chip out for the small/big blind as a placeholder, and the dealer has $1 chips they'll give you as change if no one raise above $2
Casino Manners I Didn't Know:
-Dealers change every ~30min, so if you're going to tip them for a good hand, don't wait until the end (sorry first dealer!)
-Some locations have a "Bomb Pot". This is NOT normal Texas Hold'em and involves having 4 cards instead of 2 in your hand, and playing two 5 card boards, each for half the pot. Unless you've studied it, it seems like pure gambling rather than skill/mind game
- If you move chips in to bet or say raise $X, whichever you say first is normally what's withheld
Music:
- Moonlight Canyon | Kirby and the Forgotten Land | Composed by Yuki Shimooka
- Death Mountain | The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds | Composed and arranged by Koji Kondo
- Inside Death Mountain | The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess | Composed and arranged by Koji Kondo
- Sticky Situation | Donkey Kong Country Returns | Composed by: Kenji Yamamoto, Minako Hamano, Masaru Tajima, Shinji Ushiroda, and Daisuke Matsuoka
- Mine Cart Tunnel Throwdown | Captain Toad Treasure Tracker | Composed by Mahito Yokota

I've found that you can be social at a table you just have to be aware of when you're being social, don't talk when you're in a hand. Consistency is key, players will pick up on inconsistent behavior.

This is solid advice! I think talking while I'm not in a hand would remove 50% of the not enjoyable parts of playing for higher stakes. Thank you for likely removing some future misery!

Good stuff dude! If you choose to keep playing, it's not called a raise if it's the first bet of the round. You've got a pretty good handle on things - keep it up!

To comment on your description, bomb pots are usually just that everyone puts money in before they get dealt their hole cards. What you seem to describe is another poker variant, omaha, where you get 4 cards and use 2 from your hand and 3 from the board
