I created Ancient Poland 2300 years ago in Imperator: Rome

I am actually trying out Imperator: Rome for the first time, so I will surely miss a lot of details and mechanics. Our goal here is to unite all the tribes that live in what is now Poland under a single banner. We will be playing as Galindia and trying to take everything east of the Odra river.

@@larmencio889 Poland-Prussia would be more accurate, Galindians were a medieval Prussian tribe, after all. Paradox had no idea how to name the tribes in the area, there are just no sources on Balts and Slavs in during the period, so they went, somewhat anachronistic, with a medieval tribe. Also, medieval Galindians lived right where they placed the Venedi.

There actually are by Greek geographers (I sadly do not remember them of the head atm). I know that Galindians and Sudovians were the ones (both in game). The names are so phonetically similar as well as described locations where these were located are so similar to the original places where they were found during Teutonic Order's crusades. These were not tho Lithuanians. I'd like my fellow countrymen to stop saying that this is any way related to Lithuanians. Archeological evidence points our ancestor tribe during this time to be a bit more to the east than the map allows us to go through. But yes, tribe is Baltic, and surprisingly old Prussians were Baltic as well (not German).

@@kiprasmedeisis5159 The thing is, while Sudovia corresponds to it's medieval location, Galindians lived in Galindian premieval forest ( should be south of Sudovians on the game map), and Venedi are thought of living east of Vistula and west of Bug river. So the tribes are all over the place, but then again, chronicles just listed the tribes as they went and the only description they often gave was (they lived east of river X). So who knows, maybe those tribes lived in different places 2000 years prior.

@@Vitalis94 Venedians are actually an interesting topic of their own. I read one book on them by Polish historian who speculated multiple migrations by them and because of that accounts of their occupied territory are so varried.

you can get an early claim by simply getting into your concil, without costing you anything. Also tribe are best as "tribe" you can use the ability to migrate. Its pretty op if used well.

That guy that you refused with the failing trade empire 27:24 , if you had bought it, that would've been 39 currency for 0.30 roughly currency for the rest of the game given that you never get citizen who improves commerce income and buildings that do so as well, thats HUGE, in addition, its a trade route, which means you could've vastly increased the power of that region through whatever resource you trade for which is even better, then if you trade with yourself, you get another import, and every import of resources also pays you money. Every time you have the option, always buy trade routes. Its the best way to earn permanent commerce income, even going into debts is worth it. I also want to add, you are a migrantory tribe, pick any population center with 3 or more pop, then click the tiny button next to the flag of your nation and you can turn the territory into fighting units to migrate them, i believe you have to settle areas with equal or more pops to take it over, and in the case of your newly vacated province, just split off one pop and recolonize it. Its really easy to make yourself insanely large as a migrantory tribe. Also, you don't have to take stuff over in a war to conquer it, you can use your migrantory armies if you just want a single province or whatever to seize the territory during the war, so you could migrate all the way down and seize rome in a war if you so wish. Fixed a few technical terms so i don't confuse everything, because province isn't the same as region in this game and region is where all trade is based. Also added the migrantory tribe mechanic

as you get better and better at imperator Rome, you really start to see the immense detail and complexity put into it. It gets a bad rep as people dismiss it as shallow because they are not willing to get into it. I would highly recommend the game

Actually no, German people in the area are all gone because of communist governments so hes probably slavic with baltic descendency

I'm from the area as well. There are two options: He's either descended from natives. Happens quite rarely, but southern East Prussia was, before 1945, mostly Polish speaking in the rural areas (less so in the cities). There was this Protestant Polish speaking minority there, but after the war, they were bullied by the newly arrived Poles from outside of the region (Things like suspiction by the state, people viewing them as 5th column, kids called "a Fritz" or a German at school), so most simply left for Germany in few waves, nowadays there is almost no Mazurians left. To be fair, there is a growing interest in the Mazurian culture right now, recently the book "Little Prince" was translated to Mazurian, but until recently, people weren't to keen to admit they are Mazurians because of the past bullying. Or, he's descended from the Polish settlers like most of us in the region. Those came either from neighbouring Mazovia (with Warsaw as it's capital), Pomerellia or former Polish territories in the east (Lithuania, Ukraine). As for myself, I have partial Mazurian ancestry on my mother's side, but other than that it's either Kashubian or Mazovian. On my fathers part, they lived on the German side of the border before the war, most of my grand-grandfathers served in the Imperial German army or Wehrmacht (not always voluntarely). As for him being descended from the Germans... Unlikely... There are not that many Germans in the area (maybe few hundreds, or a thousand). Most fled when Red Army was advancing, some died during fleeing, others were killed during the offensive, other were lynched or killed by the incoming settlers or communist authorities... Then there were few waves of German emmigrants (Communist regime allowed the Germans to leave, hell, even "encouraged" them to do so. ) There is much to be said about post-war East Prussia, it even includes quasi "Wild-West" atmosphere, as before the government administration was estabilished, looters and gangs went traveled the region, robbing, raping and killing whenever they went. Brutal stuff.

@@awildfilingcabinet6239 I had read some books with various post-war stories from the region, sadly don't have it on me right now, but there was one story of a German lynched in the middle of a town while the militiaman (there was no police in Communist Poland, hence Milicja/Militia instead of Policeman) had "coincidentelly" taken a smoke break and looked the other way as people beated a poor guy with some wooden clubs and even their bare hands. There were more of the gruesome stuff, but mostly it came down to harrasement. Prussia largely avoided large massacres. There were no sawing off the body parts, as in Polish Volhynia during the war. But still, the value of the Germans was at all low after the war. And not just the Germans. I know a story of a local Mazurians, happy to see the first Polish settlers in their village. Instead, the first thing those Poles did was to rob them. Sadly, to an average Pole, stories such as this, depicting the crimes of not just the Communist Russians, but Polish Communist regime as well as regular Poles themselves are largely unkown. Hell, it's a blasphemy to talk ill about it at all. Many Poles view the takeover of the former German lands are just and don't care about the fate of the Germans who had lived there. As I have relatives among both Germans and Poles, I try to look at the whole thing as objectively as I can. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give away my home region, I'm glad Poland has got the border it has now, because those are the best borders this country had in the last 500 years or so. Defensible, with wide coast line (just think about how tiny Polish coastline was before the war, and the Germans wanted to take even that away), those are really good borders (apart from that straight line along Kaliningrad Oblast), also, it seems we won't escape having the "Big Brother" lurking just to the north, then it were the Germans, now we exchanged them for the Russians. But this all came at the price. Price of human lifes. Both Polish and German. And we shouldn't forget that. To any German, I wish our countries put our past behind us, and worked together for a better future as partners. Cheers.
