Fell in love with neumorphism, I'm using it in my app and didn't know what I want. Now we're redesigning I'm headed towards glassmorphism. I'm not a designer, but I appreciate the structure behind the design. THank you so much for what you do, you sir are a gift to the world!

I really love the brutalism trend but like you said, I think I will try to re-do my portfolio in a style that is similar. As someone looking for work, I also worry using that style might be a little too much for potential employers. The glass morphism trend you started is gorgeous and makes me think of futuristic ui. I love it.
@MalewiczHype3 жыл бұрын
Brutalism mixed with minimalism may work for a portfolio but it’s difficult to pull off well. For employers minimalism with not-so-minimal projects seems to work best 🎉

Great video! One thing to keep in mind, is that using the blur filter in CSS (which is necessary for creating a glassmorphic design) can significantly decrease performance, especially on lower-end devices. I've personally experienced this firsthand when I had to redesign a glassmorphic website because even scrolling was extremely laggy on mobile. It's always important to keep performance in mind when designing for the web. I hope that this issue will be fixed in the future.

Cool, I was doing "glassmorphism" in 2013 using CSS3, opacity, gradient, and subtle drop shadows. I didn't know what to call it then. I just knew I wanted it to look like glass. It was something I was proud of. Still holds up well today. A nice glass looking minimalist drop-down menu
@MalewiczHype2 жыл бұрын
Very cool! Giving these trends a common name is what makes them easier to find by people and learn more about them. I remember using that effect years ago as well, without having a proper name for it.
@ketoweightloss98252 жыл бұрын
@@MalewiczHype yes, I'm so glad you gave these styles a name :) I feel I'm not a fan of Neumorphism but I found myself using a soft inner shadow in Figma a few months ago because I was bored with the usual drop shadows with white text and I didn't know it was a style until I saw your videos last night 🙂 Now I know what to call it.

I may be wrong, but it seems less like you "created" these trends, so much as you named them
@MalewiczHype2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I named them and broke them down into a coherent information set in the very first articles. That's what I mean by "created" - not about creating the first design in that style - just making it simpler for people to understand them and giving them a name that's easy to search for and explore.

Not only the Nintendo DS Lite - there are Divisumma 18 (1970-s), some of the Dieter Rams gadgets, plus Zont and OP-1 portable music synthetisers. And there are much more, I'm sure, because what neumorphism is - it's the game of light on a matte monochrome surface. True innovation of 2019 is that nobody (almost) ever imported it into _digital_ interfaces before.

So it's ok to explore popular designs as long as you don't claim them as your own? If you do publish a paper are you suppose to know what the ideas are and then credit you for the information?
@MalewiczHype3 жыл бұрын
There's no UX police to enforce any of this, it's just some general decency to mention when using work from someone else (be it a name, or photos, or designs or anything). I always do it in my writings when I need to reference something someone else has done. But definitely explore ALL the design styles, because merging different parts of them together is how you get truly creative :)

Why not just bring true skeuomorphism back? There was nothing wrong with it. It had a cozy feel to it. Flat design feels cold and unwelcoming. I wish companies would stop trying to fix things that weren't broken to begin with.
@MalewiczHype2 жыл бұрын
The reason for going flat is that it was already seven years and people wanted something new. Now seven extra years have passed and parts of skeuomorphism are coming back because flat got boring.

In one of your courses summaries you say "I created the popular design trends like: neumorphism, glassmorphism and Aurora", to be fair, you didn't create them, you just made up the names for them by analysing other people designs. Don't you think you put too much credit over there to yourself?

I had the same thought as Domantis, from the title I was expecting you to talk about how you designed/created them. But you identified and documented them. Not quite created, but "created" sounds a lot better in a KZbin title. Domantas is correct in his comment, so credit to him. On the flipside, its a good thing you didnt design/create glassmorphism, it's terrible.
