Ok! You started the way I do with my pieces. I prime with the medium. You can use the acrylic without the medium, but it will eventually crack, even with heat setting. Mixing the medium with the paint helps it flow better, too. I also use the medium to seal the finished product. And, yes, painting on denim is trying. This looks incredible, Alpay. I am indeed jealous. > for people who don't have a big budget < Obviously, the higher the quality of paint you use, the better results you'll get, so you'll need less medium with better paint. If you're using cheaper craft acrylic, you ABSOLUTELY need the medium, or your hard work will end up peeling off. You can get GAC 100 or Tulip fabric paint medium. They're both great. Don't be precious about high quality brushes. Denim will chew them up. Use cheap nylon taklon. If you really wanna splurge on specialty paints, look into Angelus. That stuff is even good for use on shoes and leather.

GREAT JOB!! I did hundreds of denim jackets as a kid working in Flea markets with other artists (we always painted from edge to edge on the panel). Back in the 70's and 80's, the rage here in NY was a band's album cover painted on the back panel. I wish I could have added a pic of mine here, because I got tired of people asking, "Can you paint....(add the band they love)". So, I painted the Mona Lisa on mine, showing I could 'copy' anything.

Sometimes studying art makes me question myself. Why the fuck am i even doing this? Why torture myself so much?Why do i even think this is my passion when it becomes so hard for myself to get ready and draw. And then i see a video like this. Which gets me so pumped up. Customizing, doing what ever the heck i want. Create something for myself. That's the reason we draw. We want to express ourself by our own creation. It doesn't need to be a master piece. It can be anything that makes me happy and makes me feel cool. Thank you dude. I never liked painting as a kid i always thought it was kinda messy and its kind for i don't know masters. But you are the one who got me watching videos and make me fall in love with painting even though all i do is still draw without color.

Your jacket is amazing. I'm not anywhere near the artist you are but I do enjoy creating painted clothing . I too have painted jackets over the years. Most frequent is Frida Kahlo's face on the back of a denim jacket. Then embellished her with beads and seashells on her jewelry and clothing.I've also painted on dresses I've purchased a at thrift shops . I'm inspired by you and will be doing more. Thank you Mr. Efe.

I think you did a great job. I think blue Jean is great to work in. T- shirt is the worst for hand painting. It’s so soft and just hard. I’ve been painting clothes for a long time. It’s fun and so many ppl buy it. I don’t post anything online. I’ve always been fortunate to sell what I make. Being productive is hard. I love to draw and deadlines or needing to make something takes away from drawing. It becomes a job. So I’m one who keeps to myself but I always have ppl who want me to show the world. I might but I have the fear of success. I’m learning alot from your videos. Thank you
@airdrummer552 жыл бұрын
I’ve been painting on denim jackets for years but I am always learning something new. I agree with you and would have made the picture bigger, fading it out rather than having hard edges. I’ve just recently been enjoying the denim showing through a bit and don’t have to use multiple coats to keep that from happening. The only jackets that have cracked are from using too many coats of paint, not from any type of medium or paint itself. I do what’s easy and mixing paint with fabric medium is a nuisance, craft paint on its own works just as well. I always seal mine with something and still have jackets that I’ve worn - and washed - for years. This video was delightful, thanks!

I like that you just dove in with your own knowledge instead of doing piles of research! Don't get me wrong, I *love* to research, but figuring a problem out for yourself has its own satisfaction. I'll be curious to know if your jacket ends up cracking, or how it needs to be washed/maintained.

Wooow this came out great! I painted on my jacket about 3 months ago and yes, I had the same bumps on the road because just like you, I did not watch any tutorials in what materials to use or how to prep the surface. Surprisingly enough after numerous washes the painting still looks the same with the exception of a few cracks that I believe are due to the fact that my jacket is a bit stretchy 😊

Bravo very impressive. Speaking of '80s, I had a painted t-shirt sort of an Egyptian style motif of various lines with similar and different hieroglyphics on them and shapes. I liked it so much that I got a cheap pair of canvas shoes and painted the same style on the shoes. I loved wearing that combination. Eventually, the shoes got donated but I do still have the top. It's in pretty good condition. Perhaps, I will have to paint another set of shoes to match it. Looking for the next time you paint on denim. Blessings.

As a punk in the 80's I would bleach a square out of the back of the denim jacket and then draw with a pencil my design and then black marker. Had a few, mostly skulls. I did a great one with the album cover of " The Day the Country Died" by the Sub Humans. My point is I found it easy to bleach out a square rather than paint it white. My 16-19 year old self would have flipped if I'd known I could have used acrylic paint! Your obi wan turned out beautiful jacket though, I think I'm going to recreate my '86 jacket but with your method this time. I am going to bleach it though.

Super Job! Kenobi was an excellent choice, can't wait to see if the series comes into being! I airbrush jean jackets and know how difficult it is from the start to get the results you perceive. But sticking to the painting until the final strokes, usually will result in a piece that looks amazing on denim! I'm curious what will happen when you go to wash your amazing piece! Hopefully on your next attempt you will use a textile medium so the paint can be cured and washing won't fade the colors. Airbrush paints are made specifically for garments in mind. I often lay down several coats of opaque white to create a base, then create details with transparent colors. Once I 'm finished, i finalize it with several coats of transparent medium as a top coat. this will protect the art from slight scuffs and abrasive scratches. And lastly always apply heat to cure the paint. Either use an iron, or heat press if you have one, but also tossing it in the dryer for 20-40 mins helps. You content is really awesome, very inspiring, ...thanks for sharing your art process.
