Hey Jacki Nice job on the Minnkota trolling motor don’t worry about the holes in your boat it’s normal OK, it’s just a part of installing a trolling motor, did you guys brace the bottom of the fiberglass they steel plate or fiberglass plate? Let me know Jersey Jim!! Three Screws should be fine take it for me and Louis! You guys are the best especially through this divorce!! Thank you so much for the videos the divorce is almost over! Ha ha can’t wait! Jersey Jim

You could countersink another hole in the block to get a fourth screw. When hitting waves the more bolts the better. I'm speaking from experience. 😢

Sometimes you got to put that hole in the boat to get things done. And if you have a bay boat it is not complete without a trolling motor. You will be putting Power Poles on it next.

Well done on install. Looks great. Happy to see Soldering the battery Connections. A must. If I could add one thing...... The sliding black depth collar on the shaft? I always slide this down towards the housing for extra support and Security ...... I have seen a few Minnkotas on boats when up on plane hit a big wave and accidentally deploys into the water. Thus a completely damaged Minnkota and nasty boat repair. I got in the habit to slide the collar down on all my boats during trailering or up on plane. Don’t have to going spot to spot but for sure the long runs Just sayin Fish On

Jackie, Good job, but you should install an inline breaker so you don't burn up your motor. I didn't see where you installed one, but it is hard to watch everything when you are in the movie. 😉

For the anchor. Put a cleat on the top right hand side of the anchor hatch. Get longer stainless screws and put a 4" x 8" x 5/8" piece of wood on the inside and mount cleat through the boat top and wood. This will distribute the stress on the fiberglass and give you a secure point to tie off the anchor. Prevent the new motor from getting hit by the rope and make sure it is strong enough to tie off. Hope this might help or give you an idea of what you can do. Looks good!
@fishnchips78233 жыл бұрын
I sold my boat but I kept my Minn Kota trolling motor because when I retire and move to the east coast of TX I'm going to mount it on my next boat!! I loved using it around pylons and bridges when I live line for rockfish aka striped bass.

Jackie, you need a tie down to keep the trolling motor in the up position when you are running in rough water. There are straps you can buy to secure the unit to the chrome rail on the left. If you can find nothing you like you can get a heavy duty velcro strap. I know there is a lock at the base to keep it in the up position but if you are in really rough water or fail to lock that in properly it can bounce up and go into the deployed position. There has been many a boat that has had that happen and at speed it will rip the entire unit off the bow and you will lose it to the sea. You only need to secure it that way in heavy seas.

Girl, you're tough. I think you could do the next one yourself. This guy did a great job showing you.. only suggestion I have. Get a decent anchor chain and line. Then take the time to stow it properly. If you ever get in a jam. Need your anchor. You don't want to have to be fooling around with the line.

You are going to love that trolling motor. I have a Minn Kota Riptide with the I-Pilot and spot lock and the quik release on a 20 foot bay boat and I never use my anchor. It is great to just ease up to a spot cut the engine use the trolling motor to get in position without spooking the fish and hitting the spot lock. If you need to move a little you just release the spot lock and use the trolling motor. No having to pull the anchor, move the boat with the engine and reset the anchor. All of which can disturb the fish.

For the install on my carolina skiff, I couldn't use all four of the predrilled holes in the puck due to clearance issues like you. So I used 3 of the predrilled ones like you did. When I first used it, I noticed the trolling motor rocked a bit on the mount, so I drilled a extra hole in the puck and added another bolt. It's rock solid now!
