I saw Mr Strait at We Fest in Detroit Lakes Mn. in 1991. I made my way right up to the stage and actually made eye contact with the King of Country Music. His performance was flawless, he sung his heart out for the 100,000 + fans who were there that Saturday evening, and every single person in that crowd, from all over the country came to We Fest in 1991 not to see Reba, not to see Kenny Rogers not even to see Vince Gill, we all came to see the King, George Strait, and he delivered!

When I was in high school I listened to Eddy Arnold. His big hit then was A Man’s House is his Castle. A little later it was Hank Williams and his great hits. My earliest memories is of the Carter Family on radio. They came on at 5:30 a.m.. m My daddy went to work on the road crew very early. My first memory of a country artist was Ernest Tubb singing “I’m Walking the Floor Over You “. Because of his last name tubb I thought he was a fat man! Imagine my surprise when I first saw a picture of him and finding he was Tall & Thin . Children are so literal. ,!!

So this is for the lost love that got away. I lost one, & I'd like to have that one back. She was a beauty. She reminded of Barbra Eden, the gal that played on I Dream of Jeannie . God she was a beauty. She had that hour glass figure. She was stationed at Holloman AFB, NM, back in the late 70's. Her Name Sonya Mc Cloud. I worked with her while I was stationed out there on my 1st duty assignment while in the Air Force (1976-1980). Back in the day I'd do my best to win her heart & help keep her Maverick going, LOL, one of Fords disasters. I am the kind of person which everything you touch, sometimes turns to crap, but I did gain her trust, & she called me Boo Boo. LOL. Back during this time I was running around having a great time. We would make our way out to Western TX to hear George in some of the bars on long weekends, when he was 1st getting started. Somehow I knew ole George would be around for a while, you just had that feeling as nobody, nobody puts the heart & soul into a song like George does. He did back than, & still does today. I kick my self in the butt every day I wake up thinking, I'd Like to Have That One Back. To Sonya, last I heard you were married & living in Lubbock, TX. I wish you best of luck, & you can take this with you, I still love you babe. To George, I hope to see you again in Las Vegas, I love you too man. I have all your cassettes, your cd's & your Amazon Music. I still support your music & will continue to buy it.
@bombshell427016 жыл бұрын
Phil, you have to think that it worked out for the best. Maybe it would not have worked with you. Maybe you would have been bad for her, or she for you. I know it is so hard to see and it is always greener. Thinking otherwise, when you have no idea really, is torture you don't need.
@philsmidwestclassiccars1506 жыл бұрын
Yes, it usually does work out for the best. I do miss Sonya, & I hold a special place for her in my heart. I also miss George & his perfect hits over the yeas. Maybe I'm just a push over for a good ole love song. Yea, sometimes they do more hurting than lovin, but that's what life's all about. Full of surprises, ups, & downs. Thanks for the insight.
