The history of this place is crazy. John Paul owned Road Atlanta in early 80's and bought it mostly to land his planes with tons of weed and coke. He then sold it to Randy Lanier who did the same thing. Racing funded by smuggling drugs. Both of em came out of no place and was beating everyone with no income. lol That's what got both busted. 3 brothers won the La Mans 24 with drug money back in 70's. Seems drugs, alcohol, smuggling and race cars have a ton in common.

Road Atlanta is my “home track” and yes, it is absolutely amazing. The hill dropping to the curve leading onto the front straight doesn’t get enough credit for being absolutely terrifying.

Road Atlanta is really such a great track, it's exactly what "old school" tracks are all about and i am so happy we still have some of those around at least in the US while in Europe even the old tracks get modernized to the point that they start losing what made them great back then.

@@horsefly1020 i totally believe you, i live in germany and have been on the Nordschleife, its the same there. On the sims you think oh cool elevations, but in reality they re super brutal, you can't even begin to imagine if you have not been there yourself.

Went to Road Atlanta last year for the IMSA Petit Leman 2021 and the track is in the beautiful hilly Georgia countryside too. There’s actually a hill in the center of the track that is damn near a 60-70 degree climb, i was trying NOT to stall following a golf cart of 4 up the hill who were all pushing with their feet as well lol it really is one of the best tracks I’ve ever visited hands down.

Raced there three times today in GT4. Two ended badly but one was OK but the field was too quick for me car 22 of 23 in 3.7K but finished 17th . I never liked the track but it’s growing on me.

Love me some Road Atlanta in total shitboxes. Had a blast every time I drove there. Lada 2105 A2, Mazda MX5 ND and NA, EK9 Civics, BMW M3 Tourings, it's just always fun. Sure, in faster classes too, but it treats slow classes very well too, surprisingly.

Good race Dave. The Aston looked a bit of a handful going down through the esses but you managed to keep control of it. Road Atlanta is not my favourite track but I have learned to enjoy it. A track I recently found I enjoy a lot is Canadian Tyre Motorsport. Keep up the good work.

I'm having a blast racing the GT4's at Road Atlanta this week. The Radical series, which is the main series I like to race, has really fallen off from a participation standpoint since they switched to the new SR10, so a lot of the time slots I normally race don't have enough entries to go official now. ☹ With this unfortunately being the case quite a bit this week, and with the USF2000's at an oval track this week, which is my second favorite car to race, I thought I'd give the GT4's a try. I really must say the GT4's are really a blast to drive, and the side by side, bumper to bumper, racing they produce is fun as hell. It's funny how the cars that are a bit slower to drive can actually produce the most enjoyable actual races. 😀😀 I usually start in the back of the pack just to see how far I can advance up though the field though. Some of the battles I get in the closer you get to the front are quite intense and like I mentioned earlier, fun as hell!! 😀😀

Less downforce, less power and worse brakes always gives better braking. GT3 braking is so short and they’ve got too much grip. A lot less fun than the GT4s. I also used to race Radical but struggling at starts with no clutch. Getting mugged 4 or 5 places isn’t fun.

Atlanta is frigging awesome!! The short course is great too for just doing lap after lap for a bit of fun but the club circuit seems to do all it can to butcher the track. It circumvents all the good bits and has the worst chicanes I’ve ever seen. Quite possible the best and worst in one 😂

What's up with Jim saying to be in the right column? Is there a bug that causes crewchief to get that wrong on some tracks because of the direction of travel around the track, I.E. clockwise here at Road Atlanta as opposed to counterclockwise? I've noticed the same thing before and I believe I was on a NASCAR oval once and he got it wrong, so that would seem to shoot my theory down. I'll go have a google to see if I can find anything, but I figured I'd toss the question out here.
