But it was more like the last bullet who penetrated the will of his father. Nolan was already concerned, confused and mentally charged, and Mark saying "Dad" was what finished him off.
@diasturien3 жыл бұрын
I gotta say, I've watched too many "bad guy suddenly has a change of heart" scenes and I really thought I would never get emotionally affected by any such scene. But the voice acting and animation here is just... damn. Nolan's little gasp right after Mark says "Dad?" His expressions running through denial, anger, sadness, regret, and finally a painful but realistic mixture of acceptance, self-hatred, anger and shame. In that moment, a part of him tells him that he screwed up, but he can't accept that, because doing so would shatter his entire identity. Throughout this fight he makes a point of brutally demonstrating how "apart", "above" from Humanity he is, but in this one moment we see a crack in his facade. This doesn't feel right. Beating his son nearly to death, someone who still professes their love for him even as he kills them. With just a few words Mark has planted a seed of doubt in Nolan's mind, suggesting that perhaps the Viltrumites are wrong after all. Might does not make right. How can it, when Mark is so clearly right at this moment, despite being so thoroughly outmatched.

@Jack Alan From what I’ve heard, the comic absolutely is outshined by the show’s adaptation in most ways, but Amber specifically is much better in the comic than she is in the show
@bluerious54753 жыл бұрын
@Jack Alan Honestly, I wouldn’t, but her characterization falls apart when she admits to knowing the truth about Mark. She deliberately puts her own desires over other people’s lives and safety, and despite knowing Mark had to have almost died at one point, still gets upset when she gets stood up by Mark and even when he saves their lives right in front of her. She has no good reason to be as mad with Mark as she is if she really knew he was Invincible for as long as she said she did, but she does anyway and in hindsight it ends up being very selfish and outright disrespectful. She would be so much better if either A.) She expressed her disappointment with Mark better, not berating him and instead being more understanding but still upset about a lack of communication B.) She was genuinely just unaware of Mark’s identity. It’s still possible for her to be mad with mark after learning about his identity, but the writers for whatever reason wanted her to “subvert expectations” and ended up ruining the credibility she had going for her I really don’t want to hate Amber’s character, but I just can’t ignore what her knowing about Invincible does to her overall character.

That's only in our framework of morality. There is absolutely no guarantee that aliens could feel what we feel and believe in what we believe. For example, we are compassionate by nature, whereas mantis are cannibals and eat their own babies, and there is nothing wrong with that in their perspective. Something like that, but with more variation and crazier extremes, should also be true about aliens.

At 0:54 When mark calls Omniman dad, you can see how he jumps. Like he's realizing just what he's done as he's standing over his son. Its like he instinctively reacted to his sons jumbled and painful voice, only to realize that he's the one who caused it.

My favorite aspect of Omni man's retreat isn't that he feels bad, it's that Mark and humanity in general managed to warp Nolan's view of life itself. Omni Man previously admitted to being happy "for a time" while on Earth. He comes from a Race that see's itself fit to claim the Galaxy and is most likely one of its strongest members. You don't become a dedicated elite soldier to represent the entire planet without a sense of pride for your accomplishments. I haven't read the comics (and I don't want to until the series is finished) but assume leaving your post in the eyes of a Viltrum is treason. Nolan's belief in his entire planet was shaken by someone of who. he originally planned to just be a power investment... What he didn't realize was it became an emotional investment, and if he truly didn't care about humanity he wouldn't have killed so many people to try and prove otherwise. Nolan is so loyal to and afraid of his own brutal, savage, Sayajin-like race that his attempts to quell his fear is denying the love he's developed for earth by preaching Viltrumite propaganda and mowing down people he claims to consider subhuman. The truth of the matter is that it's a good thing Mark turned out to be a Viltrumite. Because it takes that fearful and enraged beating he delivered to Mark in order for him to realize that the power of a Viltrumite, the thing that used to define Nolan his whole life, meant absolutely nothing to Mark (in what could possibly be his final moments.) Omniman has hardly ever needed to worry about death, and coming from a planet that decided on a whim to commit genocide on itself just to stress test the hell out of evolution, his society likely values fight or flight if they are ever against the ropes. The fact that Mark, in Nolan's eyes, is a Viltrumite fighting with the same Zeal that Nolan has for his empire is the final confirmation needed for Nolan to realize the lie he's been living. His shame in killing creatures he lived amongst and protected for decades was strong enough to cause him to leave, a planet he could easily conquer became guilt so deeply rooted his blood soaked hands, for the first time, felt like blood that shouldn't have been there.

I don't want to spoil it but let's just say once Omni Man becomes the leader of the viltrumites, they go from a Savage war-like Race to a peaceful race only using their power when their loved ones are threatened
