Always interesting and entertaining videos Thomas. You made lemonade from lemons. Damn nice lemons however. What a treat to be there in such an awesome place doing what you love. Thanks for showing us mere mortals that it doesn’t always work out the way you plan. It’s refreshing to watch your videos because of this honesty. Looking forward to seeing Zion through your eyes and camera lenses.

This is hilarious because your video is almost an exact play-by-play recreation of my trip. I was 1 day behind you guys the entire time. I also stopped by the eastern sierras though.That mud-crack spot was cool but I was less than excited when I got there. It has been shot to death and IMO there was nothing really exciting about being there. Zion was absolutely incredible though.
@prasb76 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity, where are these mud cracks located?
@andyackerman96367 жыл бұрын
You are right, it is tumbleweed. Nice photo. I've been to DV several times, wonderful and enchanting place, my wife and I are not campers so we enjoyed the wonderful hotels in the Valley. I got stumble drunk one night after leaving the restaurant and walking into the blazing heat. My 928 vapor-locked out there too. Car companies from all over the world test new models out in the Valley. They have lots of area to drive fast in the heat. Thomas, just as an FYI, DV is over 5,000 square miles, a big place, about 10% the size of the UK, inside California which is larger than the UK. Next time you go back go over to the borax mines where the 20 mule teams worked. Great video,, Rush, South Carolina

Hey Thomas, When I was driving on my motorcycle I've had ear protection in my ears from the heard wind. It's 120+ db. when I was driving fast. When you are in storms and hard wind, do you also wear protection in your ears from the hard sounds? I also wonder if you block out sound as a distraction when you walk around looking for a composition on a location.

Such a great storyteller you’ve become. I was doing what I often do which was looking behind you for other compositions. I was all prepared to get frustrated about the tumbleweed when you stopped and took a lovely shot. I‘ve perhaps mentioned him too often, but when you were complaining that part of the bad composition required a wide angle and the rest required a longer one I thought of Sean Bagshaw’s focal-length blending. He describes it in his tutorial “Northlands”. Don’t know if it would have helped for your composition but I wanted to make certain you knew about it.

I hope to make it out there this spring. Seeing Ben Horne made me think about the valuse of shooting film & LF vs digital. Do you think in today's world of 50 megapixel cameras that the extra cost and hassle of film is worth it? I shot film for 40 years. The last 15 was LF. I loved it but it's such a hassle. I know you play a little with your 4x5.. What are your thoughts?

I love your videos, Thomas. You always show the real thing. I have a silly question: do you stage parts of your videos? Like when you arrive to a place, walk up or down hill, and so on. Or do you always bring someone (Charlotte, perhaps) to film those sequences? It seems like a lot of work you put into them. Great work!

I think Thomas does by far the greater part of his video shooting on his own (so, it's 'staged'). It's quite impressive. I am sure that it also takes a lot of hard work ... and most of all, good method.

Great second successful shot, crisp and atmospheric, thanks for sharing. I understand you're normally putting only high quality successful photos on display, but I'd really love to see the first unsuccessful shot, had you decided to take it - just for educational purposes. Captured on the video, that scenery looked great with those sunrise-red hills, mist etc. So it'd be very interesting to see why that potentially great scene didn't work.
