Large Format Landscape Photography in the Eastern Sierra + Your Questions Answered S1E10

In this weeks video, I travel up Highway 395 and photograph near the towns of Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, CA. This was more of a scouting trip, I plan on returning early Spring of next year. At the end of the video, I answer the three most common questions I get asked here on KZbin.

Wow, the last shot in this one was wonderfully composed, S-curve leading line with a reflection, mid-ground interest and the alpine glow on the mountaintops. You couldn't ask for much more than that.

I’m thinking the wind ain’t movin’ them rocks. Tough shot with the brighter background late in the day. Makes the subject the scene and light in the background, rather than the rocks. Nice photos. Love your videos. 😊

Great series brings back many memories of hiking and photographing New Hampshire's White Mountains with my 4x5 back in the 70-90. Now in my early 70s and retiring to Nevada I needed something lighter to hike with and just purchased a Fujifilm mirrorless digital X-T5. Great series and I'll be viewing what you post Shane. Glad I found your series!

Thanks, Ron. I'm happy to have you as a subscriber. If you ever want to get back into film, look into a Nagaoka 4x5 and some compact Fujinon lenses. The Nagaoka or Ikeda Anba might weigh less that your digital kit. Although, digital is very convenient.

Love it. Those first boulders in the Milks are the Grandma (L) and Grandpa (R) Peabodies. They have some of the hardest and tallest problems in Ca, being ~45' tall! Imagine climbing those without a rope. I love that composition.

I discovered your cannel recently and find it very interesting. I like your photos very much and your landscape is so much different to my northern german home. I will have a look at that tripod and head. Till now i am using a wooden Berlebach tripod and an old Plaubel head with my Sinar P 4x5. All that becomes too heavy for me being in my mid 50ies now… ;) A lighter Tripod will let me use the old Sinar a bit longer… I subscribed and will enjoy new videos from you…

Thank you! I would recommend a 3 series gitzo, the 5 series that I have is a bit heavy. Is your Sinar and 4x5 or 8x10?

@@shanedignum Hello Shane, thank you very much for the hint with Gitzo series 3. My Sinar is just 4x5. It is not much lighter than the 8x10 because the main weight are the parts below the standarts. 8x10 is very tempting but unfortunately i am a bit short with budget and i find film and lensprices are a bit too high at the moment…
