I inventory my store by listing month. My store is still relatively small. I have bins for each month of the year. By the time I get to that month again, the following year, hopefully that bin is almost empty. I just put the month in my sku. So far, so good.

SO GOOD! Appreciate you sharing this when you did as I’m thinking of doing exactly this over Christmas break! I’m outgrowing the storage space in my son’s closet and need to reorganize before I schlup my inventory out to my folks’ basement (so thankful they are generous with their storage space - my house is SO small!). I think going through your bins and relisting is a good fresh start. That first initial OMG feeling you had, had to be awful. I have 700+ items in my inventory. At the the end of October I decided to start with bin A and look at each item's listing. I'm on bin P at the moment. So far I have a bin full of items that just aren't listed on ebay any more for some reason. I'm donating 8 items so far that I just don't like that I listed in the beginning. I've relisted a TON of listings with keywords and better titles. I can happily say that some of my oldest items have sold from doing this. Does it suck doing it through Q4, yep...but it will feel good to be fresh and ready for the new year. I love your videos and I enjoy the Let's do lunch podcast.

Thank you so much for this video! I soooooooooo needed to watch this as I literally just finished during an 'inventory count' in my currently 'small' ebay store and now will figure out which listings to take out to 'sell similar'. I want to get this done before the end of the year so that I can start the new year listing tons of inventory i have. I definitely need to source other outlets besides listing myself becuase of the abundance I do have and heard you mention at the very beginning of this video 'consignment, wholesale girls' . Who/what are the 'wholesale girls'? I would like to be ready to start sorting and decipher what items to take to buy/sell/trade stores or a company or person that buys/sources from other resellers. Again, thank you so much for sharing this as I will be starting tomorrow with the delisting and selling similar! :)

Great video! I started using the Ginger Marvin box system. It is awesome. SO easy to find sold items. And to do inventory, you can just search by sku (Banker Box A, SD1-A, ect) and it will show you everything that’s supposed to be in that box. I do the search term once, and have all the items there on screen at once. Huge time saver there too! I am curious. In the end, how Many items did you have that we’re not showing listed? And how many showed as listed that you didn’t physically have?

Thank you for your videos. They have a sense of reality that we, the people who are struggling to keep going, need. I am in a difficult situation, I have been listing, watching different youtubers and taking advice. I am mom of a 10 year old and I have been struggling with my store. I love the time I spend with my family, the long breakfasts with my husband who has his law practice and sometimes leaves to work at 10 or 11 am. Taking my son to the park to meet with friends after school or his music classes, I haven't been able to follow an schedule but I don't want to give up my family-time because that is the first reason I want to work at home.. but I do want to build my business and make it work. I haven't list consistently in almost a month and my store is frozen. Just a question: How many items should I list every day to get sales but without geting too much inventory? since I don't have the space. I need to sell quick or at least in less that three months every item I list. In 8 days I will be traveling abroad for 17 days but I am organizing my inventory, my home, my workplace to start working hard next year with a serious schedule because otherwise I will have to get a job. Anyway, again thank you for these nice and real videos showing us that it is not easy but you seem to enjoy it as well and it makes me breath and keep going and I am sure I am not the only one.
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad that this has been helpful for you! It's so wonderful that you are able to spend the time with family! Especially if this reselling gig can give you that time with them! I do think it's important for you to carve out a daily schedule for your reselling for a few reasons. 1) So that your selling platform stays moving and active. It helps the algorithm. Even if it's only 1-2 listings per day. 2) It shows to your family that you are committed to your business and that you are treating it like the real job that it is! 3) It's a teachable moment for your son to see what hard work and commitment is and that mom's have an important roll outside of the home as well. That there is a healthy balance And 4) You deserve that time to build something for yourself! I wish you the most success in finding that balance and that you create that fun in your family life AS WELL AS your reselling!

Glad I'm not alone in our inventory storage system Tracy! LOL! I only closed my store and deleted everything because I was going to be gone for over a month. I thought that since I was already ended, I would 'clean house' before opening it back up. Not ideal timing - but it is what it is!

@A Rural Squirrel I am going to do the same thing after Christmas when I go through inventory again. It's kind of time consuming, but it's huge benefit for 3 reasons. 1) you find what's unlisted. 2) everything gets a fresh start. 3) it allows for a true inventory of products listed even it comes to ensuring multiples are properly listed. I personally recommend everyone do it at least once a yr, but I am going to be doing this twice a yr from here on out.
@marcicook3166 Жыл бұрын
I also store my items by category. I have 2000 listings and it’s always worked well. I can’t imagine having to mark every item with a sku. I’d NEVER stick to it and I think would lose a lot more items. Also your sales were probably down more so because your store was shut down than the relisting. Shutting off your store completely usually causes it to lag a week or so once its back on before the sales start up in my experience!
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
Thanks Marci! I've shut off my store before and you're right, it really does make it slow to bounce back after that - and definitely played into the slow sales! I do appreciate your encouragement about it! Glad we're not alone in our inventory techniques too! 😉

If you had so much that hadn't sold... I think I'd list the new things and give your shop a fresh start. Then look with a critical eye on the old stuff and either donate, cut the price, or look seriously at your key words that draw people to your store.
@Bawkr Жыл бұрын
If the item isn't completely un-useable and is worth the shipping fees, then you should sell it for at least a dollar profit especially with a draft already done. My thoughts. I've been selling a long time but very low volume until this quarter I've spent almost every hour selling.
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
That's probably a great way to approach it Sassamous! I hadn't looked at it that way - I was thinking about getting my store up and going as quickly as possible during the busiest shopping season of the year - but that way would've been really good too. Maybe next time! LOL! 😂 😅

Yeah - I thought about that too - I mean, I've already done all the hard work! Everything is a constant evaluation of "how much is this really worth to me". In the end, maybe selling it in another avenue is better because the Ebay platform didn't perform for me for that item. And that's what I'll end up doing with a bunch of those items. I'll tell you more about it in Sunday's video.

Besides those 3 jackets…how many other items were not listed or dropped off your eBay store?
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
Great question! I'll talk about that on Sunday But it was more than I thought it would/should be!

I believe that listing unsold go away, so is matter of time you will loose them
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
True - I think they only stay in your unsold for 90 days or so - not sure of the exact time but I'm definitely working against the clock!

Even though you deleted your listing you are getting more sales than me. I make like 1 or 2 sale a month but I have 90 listings so idk if Im doing something wrong

Don;t stress! And don't compare yourself to me - just compare yourself to where you were last year at this time (or last week or whenever). Are you improving? Are you working to get better? Identify what you can do to improve and challenge yourself to achieve that! You can do it! 😉

I looked in your ebay store to see if you listed the patagonia jacket that you found not listed, I didn't see it. Do u remember what size it was?
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
Oh wow! Thanks so much fro checking! I didn't re-list it. I took it to a local Poshmark friend of mine that buys bulk and sold a chunk of stuff to her. Appreciate you watching and noticing the good stuff though!! 😉

don't be ashamed of how long somethings been in your storage... If it's good stuff it's gonna sit there a while till you get your price you want and it may even go up in value because it's getting older lol
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
LOL! You're probably right! 😂

Well they say delist relist doesn't work so maybe this proves it?
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
I mean, it worked for me!! I've had more 'stagnant" things sell since this experiment and that is a relief! Now, I feel more like a reseller than a 'collector"! LOL

@@ARuralSquirrel I made the comment in the video before I finished the whole thing. I saw how it turned out for you buddy

I hope this is encouraging for you... Another favorite KZbinr of mine has an inventory system by category. I am shifting to that. I find it easier. No more "alphabet soup" for me! Great minds thinking alike???
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
That IS encouraging! Although I think that the 'alphabet soup' looks so professional and clean, it was going to be a hard switch for me - you know - old dogs and all! LOL

After the troubles I ran into today, I'm tempted to delete all my listings

At what point do you feel like a hoarder? Is it overwhelming?
@ARuralSquirrel Жыл бұрын
LOL!! I was sort of feeling that way because so much of it wasn't selling!! That's why I felt like it was a good time to do this purge! 😅

I'm a little disappointed that you didn't have a numbers recap of how many things you found that weren't listed or how many things you decided to donate. 😕
@rebeccawebster3556 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering that also.
