Reminds me of Soul Reaver. Vampires over time stop looking so humanoid and experience moments of advanced evolution. This usually is influenced by how they conduct themselves or even by whatever unusual traits get activated by the introduction of the vampire curse. There was a group of Vampires led by a Vampire named Zephon. He was a conniving schemer who makes up for his lack of strength by trickery and ambush tactics. Him and his clan would turn into insect like monsters using their ability to climb walls and spin webs to sneak up and trap their victims. Zephon himself turning into a giant monstrosity of a bug that has fused with the Cathedral he based himself in. He feeds by having his subservient underlings bring him food like a colony of ants. There was also a group that had the misfortune of being afflicted with supernatural leprosy. This group of vampires were constantly decaying and so would capture people not just to drink their blood but to graft the skin of their victims onto themselves to ward off the decay. They would eventually turn into creatures that could burrow in the ground like water and became skeletal misshapen masses of flesh and essentially became something similar to Zombies.

When the video based them off leeches I started thinking of other strange ways to get blood out of people. So hear me out when I say *Hippos.* They only need the blood, everything else is wasted. But to get the absolute most blood out of a victim they crush and mash the target with their many blunt molars. Like a cow with a massive mouth. Could be bloated, "a necessity of the many filtrations their meals go through." Certainly not as efficient as other forms of draining, but minimizes _resistance._

I like how even the classic design of a vampire is built into this concept. The pale gaunt person rather than being the monster itself is actually the patient of a lesser vampire, and the greedy bloodsucking aristocrat is the victim of the greater vampire. And your world with these monsters being spirits that govern morality is such a cool concept for vampires and werewolves. It makes them feel mythological even in a world where they actually exist. You have put so much thought into these concepts and designs, creating something entirely unique whilst still embodying the core of what these archetypes represent. Which is impressively difficult to pull off.

So this is something I hope to explore with specific vampire characters. A lot of them tend to wear those strange head pieces, and while all vampires have a leach-like face, they could be adorned with a mask that mimics the head of a mosquito or bat.

I love the idea of a lesser vampire being a klutz and being spotted immediately, but still trying its best to help the person it spawned for. Over time the presence and stability provided by the vampire could still help, even if their venom no longer has an effect. Sort of a fantasy sitcom style story.

Sometimes a vampire has been around long enough that it can have pretty sweet conversations with people, and they’re very presence can help to comfort people given that they are effectively a manifestation of nature that is their for them. Of course, they are also pretty freaky, and so most people are scared stiff, even by something like a lesser vampire.

This is honestly very creative! I never tought of vampires as a force of nature and that they can be beneficial to the world. I always imagine them as parasites, taking but never giving anything back. I also did a project on Vampires but I chose mosquitoes as the replacement animal for the usual bat, leeches tough make them so much more alien and weird! Great job, you should be very proud of your ideas and drawings!

Amazingly unique, but few questions for further fleshing out this design. Firstly, I'm interested in understanding how these creatures are capable of stealth given their distinctively unathletic and large form? Also, almost all vampires carry the status or disease of vampirism, which is how these creatures propagate. Can these creatures pass on their vampire status in any way? Would be wonderful to hear from you on this exciting design!

Thank you! To answer the first question, Lesser Vampires have to rely on weak forms of magic to hide themselves, as well as very careful timing and a good degree of luck. Meanwhile Dread Vampires are almost impossible to find should they choose to hide as they have full mastery over the household of the condemned, able to hide in shadows and even dreams should they be forced to. That said, there are unique individuals employed by the hunters guild who know how to catch these vampires, its just very difficult. Vampirism isn't really a thing, however people who are cursed by dread vampires will take on more traditionally vampiric qualities, particularly the weaknesses of modern vampires, such as an aversion to sunlight. Vampires, as with all spirits will simply manifest as and when they are needed, meaning they can never really go extinct, however as people learn more about them, they can consciously eliminate the circumstances where one would appear.

Such a damn good take and redesign of a classic mythos monster!!! The whole premise behind ethereal spirits is a great one, but helpful -and failing that, punishing- vampires is a fantastic idea. I always wondered what vampires might look like if mixed with other blood sucking creatures. Darkest Dungeons gave us mosquitoe vampires. Now you gave us leech vampires. Both visually disturbing but still piques my vampire hyperfixation, especially grotesque ones like Count Orlok from Nosferatu: Symphony of Horror.

Excellent point, I'll be sure to include a size reference when I next discuss the vampire character, Shera. The last image with the two together is to scale, with lesser vampires being about the 3-4 feet tall. Dread vampires vary considerably with some being close to 10ft in height.

This was something I meant to mention in the video. Something I want to avoid with the ethereal is making them look like animals and so the additional hands are there to really establish that for the viewer. Ultimately this is a creature that works against its physicality to complete its task.

3:18 Tbf, we DO need more non-bat inspired vamps. Not only bats qualify as bloodsuckers after all! You choosing a leach as the guideline for your designs is such a good call! Leeches are rather horrifying irl already, but amping up their specificities. I made some designs based on piranha and mosquitos, however my top fav remain these two mainstream tropes 2:15 and, especially, a middle ground between the two which I'm still working because bats are so adorable hehe

This looks like a character i started many years ago. Was no where as fleshed out as yours is but similar. Face was covered by a Kabuki mask held in the mouth of the leech head, but what you would expect to be a neck would actually be a tongue of sorts that coild retract in to a second mouth that was placed where a neck would start.

Dude, you took an old classic monster and redesigned it spectacularly! It's this kind of groundbreaking creativity that need to be more on display. I designed a unique vampire as well a long time ago. It was based on mosquitoes and other blood sucking insects, with some ideas taken from the Judas breed from the Mimic films. They weren't magic in anyway, but also had some unique functions, like sucking blood at night when they were most active. the lesser variants primarily sucked on animals or livestock, while the large more powerful ones managed to find humans. Most disturbing was how they reproduced, they'd target pregnant targets to hide the parasite they'd inject into them, until the maggots took over the unknowing host. Leading them into an isolated area where they's burst from their body and slither off to grow.

when you talked about the feet i couldn't but to associate to a pig's feet, but with only one toe. Other than that, i got to admit that i never thought a vampire as a leech, pretty neet design and logic, and well the fact that they are not just the bloodlusted monsters that they are usually portraid as.

These designs remind me of a particular group (clan) of flesh crafting vampires from the ttrpg vampire: the masquerade called the tzimisce. The tzimisce can change the shape of bone, muscle and skin ect. Some of them change them selfs into what ever they want, some look like dragon human hybrids others look like knights with armor made of bones and stronge muscles. Thanks for the inspiration.

Amazingly creative designs! I adore the leech motive and the various activities they carry out, a welcome change from the usual! But I just think that if the aim was to make them appear ghostly, a bit more human-like features could be inserted. Even something like a mask that resembles a face would go a long way. I know their leech-like and monstrous appearance is a big part of their design, but I personally associate ghosts and figures resembling such with a certain resemblance to living humans, which paradoxically makes them even more strange and otherworldy

So I feel that this is something I need to convey more clearly as they kind of do. When a dread vampire curses a household, they slowly transform the condemned into something closer to a traditional vampire, complete with cannabalistic tendencies. The difference is that they have all the weaknesses of a traditional vampire but none of the strengths, as their condition is meant to be a curse.

While likely not what you intended, both of these designs remind me of a dragon. A long neck holds a toothy maw wreathed in ceremonial structure looming overhead, leering down upon you with unknown intent. Great wings stretch skyward even while folded neatly away, a subtle reminder that it is more mobile than it at first seems and far larger than an initial glance might suggest.

If I may, where does the “Vampiric” aspect of the lesser Vampire come in? Animal traits vary among Vampires and not all of them necessarily even bite their prey. What makes a Vampire Vampiric is that they feast upon life itself- whether by drinking blood or inflicting some withering disease on a victim or just flat out draining the life force directly. You explained how Dread Vampires weaken the ones they are sent to punish by draining their blood at night, but lesser Vampires don’t seem to me like they are Vampires at all.

Good question. So the way we see vampires in popular media is largely how lesser vampires are viewed in setting by people who do not understand what they are. They are seen by many as scary bloodsuckers that will hide in your house until night, though this is only surface level, and as some people understand, lesser vampires are actually harmless and kindly. This in-world misconception is the way they tie into traditional vampires and it is purely surface level, aside from that it all comes down to aesthetics which is the point. The other factor is that I wanted to two different things with vampires, hence their internal variation. Very creative and unique I really love the video ! One thing i would add is a sence of scale because you often refer to them as hiding in shadows or house holds but wouldnt a HUGE vampire leeche bat looking thing be quite visible ? are they smaller so do they hide beneath or in things ? haha just small things but would help deepen the real feel of the world :)

@@mlizu2554 wonderful point, I’ll try to include a scale reference with my next upload. The lesser vampire is about 3-4ft tall at full height, whereas the dread vampire can be anywhere between 6-10ft in full height. To hide, the dread will dissaparate into bats, smoke or shadow.
