A new hardcover copy of the first three books is like 15 USD each, and the last four are right around 25 USD each, if you buy them as a set from Scholastic themselves it's $150. I don't have any problem imagining that people would drop nearly $500 for a nice leather bound set like what she made, regardless of what you think about the author.

The cover designs are fantastic, and the design of the deathly hallows standing out with the bulk of metal leaf and having the dramatic symbol peer through the Hogwarts silhouette is just incredible. Gives it the dramatic flare of a finale.

Those are Absolutely AMAZING! Now, what I really want to do is cover a 3-ring binder in leather, without having to remake the whole cover, if that is even possible. Every tutorial I've seen they break the binder, and remove the hardware and remake a new cover.

Do it the same way she did this here just pick a fabric for the inside aswell. You may need to scuff the material with sandpaper to make sure the glue really sticks 😁👍

The things you do are incredibly tedious and time consuming and people just don't understand that since you make these tasks look so effortless! If those commenters were told to create the same things you do, they'd give up by the end of the first day. As a leather crafter, I loved the idea of you laser cut stamping process. You seemed to have issues when clamping, and I think I may have some ideas where it may have gone wrong. Wet moulding and stamping are two different process. The stamping works best if the leather is “cased” first. I would do this process before shaping them. This should be done off the books as the books are compressing when stamped not allowing the leather to take on the impression. Place a hard material like a stone block (marble or similar) under the leather, place the stamp then press or hammer the mould into the leather. Should take fairly quickly. Then shape the leather afterwards to you pieces. Could even be done on fairly thin veg tan leather.

You could then use gel antique to the surface - allow to dry for a few minutes then buff off to give an aged effect.

Everyone who ever worked on a project had that moment where they don't like the outcome or don't wanna do a specific part of it and think about giving up or whatever else. And as a viewer, I think it's reassuring to see that even someone with so many talents and skills still has these moments too

I'm an artist myself, and whenever I choose to paint something more challenging or time and energy consuming, I end up complaining about it even though simultaneously I'm still sort of enjoying it? I think it's just part of the process to feel frustrated at some points, but it doesn't mean you regret doing it (even if you say so in the moment)

My favorite part about the design is that it feels like it could actually fitninto the wizarding world. Many books throughout the movies have a similar style, so it can almost be seen as a collection written by a wizard documenting/sharing the life of the boy who lived: the chosen one, Harry Potter. I totally get the "complaining". I made my daughter a lampshade with owls made of perler beads. Believe me I complained a lot when placing the beads for owl number 50 wishing I never see another bead.. but the end result and her reaction makes it worth it.

I love the designs you did for the fronts!! Leathercraft stamp tip from my husband: wait for the leather to dry on the surface so just the middle inside is wet! He says it'll take to stamps much easier and you don't need a lot of pressure, so you won't have to go over the stamps again by hand. ❤️ (Surface wetness is what causes the lines to not be crisp or deep, and look swollen. It's called "casing" your leather.)

And - it takes TIME. Leather needs to be wetted thoroughly to take stamps nicely. That takes upwards of 8 hours. Make the leather tripping wet, put it in a plastic bag over night, and before stamping let it dry till the outside is just barely moist.

EXCELLENT! As I am not that artistically gifted, I wouldn't have had the guts! What I would have done was to use paperback editions, and made the hardcovers a new. As the paper back books are 1/3rd of the COST. What would have been done was to multiply and increased the overall value ten fold. I do understand why you used the hard covers! As all 7 books are uniform in height and width, only different in thickness. With the paperbacks there is a variation in size as well not much but still a variation. Yes! They are beautiful now, and appear as a matched set. Yes i would buy them for my grand-children. O But the original hard cover value is gone, especially if they had been 1st additions. Thinking about the collector of the original hardcover book. Can the book be returned and restored to its original condition?

​@@danielseverson3173 There no way those book can be returned to their original appearance. But I doubt there's a lot of value gone because those books are no longer in their original condition. First editions aren't per se valuable collectibles. All copies of a book that don't differ from the first printing run are "first editions" from a bibliographical perspective. If you by a hard-cover copy of "the Catcher in the Rye" (which was first published in 1951), you're still buying a first edition, because the typeset was never changed. Copies from the first print are a different thing - those can be pretty valuable, but I'm pretty sure Martina and her boyfriend are too young to have read the novels in English (i.e. not their native language) when they were first published, so it is highly unlikely the books she used were first prints. And that's assuming she didn't buy fresh copies for the project, because those would be easier to work with than copies that sat on a shelf and gather dust for an undefined number of years.

When you started adding the gold I actually teared up a bit. The Harry Potter series is very close to my heart, and I feel like with the new covers the story comes leaking out on the surface of the books. Very well done, beautiful job.

Complaining about a process is a key component to improving the process. When you have a project like your castles, the complaints of the first led directly to improving the process that you used to make the second. This isn't simply whinging, this is identifying areas for process improvement. Keep kicking ass and complaining while you do it! Can't argue with the results!

I’ve watched old books being rebound on The Repair Shop and have always wanted the Harry Potter books bound in the finest leather, relief and gold embossing, but not until now did I see the craft combined to such a result of near perfection.

I know it's silly, but I'm actually impressed (and a little weirded out) by the original covers. They're so colorful! I'm Brazilian, and here the first Harry Potter edition (and most popular till today) is from Rocco, and each book has one prominent color (they have more than one color, but there's always one that dominates the cover). Sorcerer's Stone and Deathly Hallows is yellow, Prisioner of Azkaban and Order of Phoenix is blue, Half Blood Prince and the Goblet of Fire is green and Chamber of Secrets is the only one that's red.

I like the “return to format” I first found your channel when you made your tomes. It’s nice to see you doing this again Love the channel and the directions you’ve gone. There really IS something so satisfying about a matching book set like yours! It's absolutely beautiful!! I'd buy this and never ever read it (for fear of creasing the spines) -- I'd just happily treasure it as the beautifully handmade art that they are!

I'm wondering what the designers of the original covers were thinking, I mean this looks like a dictionary or some kind of fiscal law encyclopedia that you might have on an office shelf. With all leather and the gold, that's what I would expect these books to look like! :D So pretty! And even if this is far to expensive to make for the masses, they could have at least colored the covers in a less agressive way.

They were thinking these are children's books and kids rarely keep their books in good condition. So they cut costs on book covers that are likely to be handled roughly anyways.

I would expect mostly people 18 and under to make up over 90% of the readers of this series so I wouldn't splurge on the appearance of the books like this. However, since the series became so popular and has cult status, NOW, it would make sense to make a mega special edition version like this. The issue is that these would easily cost $90-100 per book! The only time I bought an extra volume was a black and white paperback of The Deathly Hallows. The cover was illustrated by Mary Grandpre and I thought the artwork was interesting, it looked like something that would be carved in a stone wall somewhere underneath Hogwarts, just waiting to be discovered.

That doesn't have to be the case for the Harry Potter books but at least don't make them look like some color coded encyclopedia! Also there could be an edition of the books with better quality covers that is not targeted at childeren.

These are children books; if you want other colours than take the adult version; there are different collectors collection for several hundred euros or buy an ebook. I wouldnt buy these lether books- I dont see a reason for that. If you want a leather cover, buy one at the etsy store et voilà you have your special leather cover. I personally like the looks of the books I have and it is more eco friendly. I am more interested in the content as in the look. I dont buy books for the shelf but for me.
