Well 3 months training for an Ironman is basically no training, I’m gonna be 18 and 2 days for the Copenhagen Ironman. It’s in 20 days and I have to say the way he speaks he really underestimated the race.

This is insane. I trained two full years for my first Ironman and I had all the right equipment. Got injured a million times training for it and I finished in 13 hours. Of course I’m not 18 so my body is more fragile but still… unbelievable. I did my first marathon without training (at all) at 22 and I got injured for life. Still paying the price today. What you did was both as amazing as risky!

Inspirational for sure, but please god nobody else even think about doing this. He’s lucky he hasn’t permanently injured himself. Do a short triathlon first, then an Olympic distance, then a half Ironman, then a full Ironman. Enjoy the journey instead of trying to short cut everything in life.

Everyone who ever did a half oder full distance triathlon knows, that this is fake. There is no way, for anyone, without any training, to complete a long distance triathlon, especially not in 14,5hours and not with running into the finish line. It can be done in 5 months of training, but not without serious amount of previous endurance training, especially run or bike training. All those videos on the internet with similar accomplishments don't mention, that there was serious training, at least 2 years before this "start" of the ironman training. Folks, don't let this fool you. Tommy Butler, you said you did your 3rd ever run 5 months before the ironman. This can't be true, and no matter what proof you throw at me, it doesn't matter. It's wrong and doesn't change the fact, that it is. This has nothing to do with fitness, or willpower or talent. This is about physics. You can't overcome physics. Greetings.

You did train before the Ironman? I mean, I think it is absolute stupidity to do an Ironman without training because you will likely just get injured. That’s partly why you are training, so your body can tolerate the distance

an ironman is not just an aerobic physical feat, but 99% of it is mental. it’s inspiring to see someone of a young age tackle this taxing race distance. if you have ever done running, swimming, biking, xc skiing, or any sport that involves a high amount of mental strength, you would smile for this man right here. pure grit and determination while having fun. it’s a lifetime memory and his grit and determination will show outside of triathlon as well. it’s great to see so many people attempt long distance triathlons and 100 mile runs, because after completing one you feel genuine happiness you can always look back on

just as lebron and messi inspire many many people around the world by being a role model for their respective sports. at all levels their can be role models and youtube is a great platform for people like him to make this video to hopefully inspire someone, just as he was inspired to do this.

@@lambdaserb Good evening. I have raced as a triathlete for many years as at elite ITU / Worlds etc. You can Google the name. On a Memorial Day weekend, when a nation (the US - and I from the UK) is taking the time to remember 18yr old soldiers / Marines who made the ultimate sacrifice for something greater than a 14hrs effort, to be candid, this was tone deaf. But then I suspect that is lost on the generation in question.
@lambdaserb
@lambdaserb Жыл бұрын
@@richardcmacnamee I completely agree that this comes nowhere close in relation to fighting for one’s nation. Doesn’t mean that’s the only thing can be inspiring to others.

He didn’t overcome any mental barriers associated with preparing for an ironman, he simply circumvented them by ignoring any reasonable suggestions to train to condition himself for the distances.
