I don’t know if I’d say each one of them are amazing. That’s unnecessary and false hype. He made about 5 great movies, 3 incredible movies, and 4 mediocre ones that he rushed through and didn’t invest in a good story for them. Like his 12th film wasn’t even a film? It was just him setting up a camera and letting it roll. He definitely rushed a few of these so that he could say he made 12 in a year.

I am genuinely immensely pleased for you, as I know the power of that accomplished feeling is very high - I am sure you are so excited for the unknown of 2025, seeing as though you have granted yourself the freedom of no plan as of yet. I have been independently working on a stop-motion project for nearly a decade now (that I won't publish until it is ready), so believe me when I say that I understand the weight of intense dedication. Your art; your approach to it; and the way you talk about creativity, has been a factor in how I have maintained my focus and beliefs (that are similar to my understanding of yours) over the years so I thank you wholeheartedly. Congratulations on everything - including being a righteous and loving lifeform (from what I have gathered at least)

Unironically might be the most emotionally moving film I've ever seen, it just being real life makes it... well, real, and it's hard even for great fiction to compete with reality. Certainly the heaviest I've seen in many years at least. The first weight that hit me was when he mentioned how his grandfather was avoiding the bed, just so many painful layers to that simple statement.

I love endurance art, it's like it can be this art that's enveloping other art inside of it. Like Jonathan Mann's song a day project, each song is a song but they're also a piece of a whole. If we're talking raw density of art, I think that art made of art that's been made like that is something hard to come across elsewhere. It makes me think about Bryan Lewis Saunders, like his self portraits if they were movies. Under the influence of months, of the project as a whole and the experience thus far. That must've been a trip man.

Joel I have no idea if you'll see this, but learning that you're from Nova Scotia has given me a weird boost of motivation. Speaking as a fellow Nova Scotian artist, I've always felt this strange sense of insecurity about whether or not it's even possible to make it in this field purely because of where I grew up and the circumstances left outside of my control due to that. Seeing you fulfill yourself creatively and find an audience for yourself despite all of that is hugely inspiring to me. “It Just Takes Time” is one of my favorite movies of the year. A friend struggling with world weariness and grief and me struggling to stay sober, that film just cuts close to the bone and is so humane. It reminds me of Paul Shraeder’s book on transcendental cinema; about Ozu, Dreyer, Bresson. While different stylistically, some of your films have the same purity, compassion for what people really go through, and a certain amount of poignancy and just the right mixture of hope and bleakness.

Joel, I just want to say that this project has truly been my light over the last twelve months. When you began this project I was in a very dark place, yet that very first film you released this past year suddenly gave me hope. Still, after all the amazing films you've since released, The Hero's Journey is my favorite. I say this without any exaggeration or sugar coating, one major reason I held onto life was knowing that I could count on seeing another one of your films if I just waited a little bit longer. I've seen been to the hospital and am doing better now than I was before-so I will say with the end of this project my life is not in danger lmao. I want to also say that all of your films, including those outside of this project, have inspired me to finally go back to school. The first thing I ever told my late mother I wanted to do at the age of 4 was be a Director. I threw that idea way as film making didn't seem like much of a stable job-and while I still know it isn't, I've since realized you truly only get to live once. This fall I'll be going to school double majoring in Film and Kinetic Imagery (Animation/Special Effects). Thank you Joel. Your unapologetic insistence that ANYONE can make a movie really has gotten through to me. Thank you so much for this project, all the beautiful films you've created, and for your dedication. I hope 2025 treats you well! Take a rest, man.

Aw man, this is so beautiful to hear. Thanks for sharing. I’m really sorry to hear it’s been a difficult year, I’ve had some really hard ones myself. More times than not they’ve been followed by better ones! I’m glad my films could help you persevere through. Congrats on making the decision to go back to school! School is truly a great safety net to start making and creating. People’s biggest mistake in film school is apathy. They barely try on their projects and they don’t make anything themselves for fun separate from the projects. You gotta create like a madman to get the most of school! I wish you luck. Happy new year❤️

Congrats Joel, these movies were amazing man. I loved every single one. I’ll definitely be returning to some of these over the years. Especially Anyone Else But Me, and The Diarrhea Brothers.

I don't think I've seen someone as high on life as Joel in this video

Congrats on completing the project! Art > "content", every time. My personal favorite was The 9th Movie. Looking forward to whatever you come up with next!

Great work Joel! I still need to watch the last 5 I think; I'm really looking forward to it. Your first 7 were really good - some resonated with me more than others, but your heart and passion really showed in them. I discovered your channel around this time last year just after you announced this project. I had no idea what to expect, as I'd mostly just watched your comedy shorts, but the subtle heart you put into those shorts made me want to try watching your longer releases - the shorts were officially comedies, but didn't come across with either the emptiness or the oppressive sarcasm so common in the genre; they were warm and real. So while I awaited the first of your 12 movies, I watched "Pretend that you love me", and I was hooked. Not something I would have expected to enjoy, but I loved it so much. Just a random thought, but as I was watching you reflect in this video, I was struck by your likeness to British musician Jacob Collier - not in appearance, but in heart, and in your perspective on the world. He really loves music, and people, and creates music to bring beauty into the world for the sake of people. You do the same with film. Thank you so much for that! This world needs more people who think, love, and give like you.

Joel, your love of movies and filmmaking is incredibly inspiring. Last year I barely accomplished anything. It was the year where I've made the least amount of music or anything that i feel all that proud of. I can chop up some of that to my life circumstances, but I also know that I could use more drive and passion. Somehow I was invested in these movies to see if you would actually accomplish this, and you did! This year is the first time I've set out a new years resolution (really they're just some goals) and I'm both excited and intimidated by them. Excited because everything about working towards these projects and furthering my skills just sounds incredibly fun. Intimidated because I still feel that I have to create something that has value. You created 12 movies for the love of doing that and all of them turned out stellar. And you know, even if they didn't turn out that way for yourself or a lot of viewers, the fact that you made it and had so much fun making it is very encouraging. Thank you
