You weren't wrong to have noticed so many pop style references in the music. Each wife has "queenspirations", queens of pop that inspired their look and sound. Catherine of Aragon (yellow): Beyoncé, Shakira Anne Boleyn (green): Avril Lavigne, Lily Allen Jane Seymour (white): Adele, Sia Anna of Cleves (red): Rihanna, Nicki Minaj Katherine Howard (pink): Ariana Grande, Britney Spears Catherine Parr (blue): Alicia Keys, Emeli Sandé

Fun fact: the instrumental in this song is a remix of Greensleves; a very famous piece that is believed to have been written (possibly by Henry) for Anne Boleyn, his second wife
@edisonlima46473 ай бұрын
Not really believed to, since it has existed sinxe the days of Henry VIII's grandmother, but folklorically attributed to Henry.

There’s a fantastic video here on YT all about how the greensleeves theme is the basis of a lot of the show
@jovindsouza340719 күн бұрын
@@edisonlima4647 not quite. Greensleeves was most likely composed decades after Henry and all his wives died, since its composition follows an Italian style that didn't even make it to England till around 1580 during the reign of Henry's daughter Elizabeth. But it somehow got attached to Anne Boleyn, and thanks to crap like The Tudors, will remain associated with her forever. Henry DID compose many poems and wrote dozens of love letters to Anne that we have still preserved. But Greensleeves was never one of them.

The little guitar riff after CA says 'royalty' is a bit of Spanish/flamenco guitar because Aragon is a region of Spain.
@AirQuotes29623 ай бұрын
So here's the quick lowdown on each main character. Catherine of Aragon - First wife. To the Catholic church at the time, the only true wife. She was from Spain, shipped off like many women were at the time for a political marriage when Henry was a known womanizer (he had a lot of mistresses). Her daughter Mary ended up becoming Bloody Mary. Her color is yellow. Anne Boleyn - Second wife. She overlapped with Catherine in that she was initially one of Henry's mistresses, but when Catherine failed to provide a male heir Henry tried to divorce her and marry Anne instead. The Catholic church said no, so Henry created the Church of England and broke England away from Catholicism. The musical doesn't go into the fact that she was coerced and bascially pushed into being Henry's mistress against her will. Her daughter was Elizabeth the First though, so she kinda won in the end. Her color is green. Jane Seymour - Third wife. She was considered more ideal than Boleyn and more acceptable by many who were outraged. She was also the one who finally gave Henry a son-Edward. She died around the time of Edward's birth (potentially from complications in the birth itself, I'm not sure) which was tragic, both for her and for the kingdom. Her son only ruled for a few months I believe, before passing away due to sickness. Her color is white. Anna of Cleves - Fourth wife. She is from Germany. Her marriage to Henry only lasted around six months, because he couldn't legally divorce her faster than that. The musical talks about how it was because she didn't look as good as her portrait which is what Henry claimed, though it wasn't entirely accurate. It was moreso because Henry was humiliated by her and the portrait thing was more of a retort (think being rejected by an incel, and him saying "Well, you're ugly anyway!"). Her political marriage to Henry was also solidifying an important trade link with the Germans, so when they divorced Henry gave her a massive castle and a bunch of money in exchange for her not telling her family how awful she was treated. She lived the rest of her life in England, and ended up the best out of all the wives. Katheryn Howard - Fifth wife. Easily has the darkest story out of all of them. I don't want to actually say it here, because her song goes into her story much more than a few others do and honestly, it's best if you just find out then. Her color is pink. Catherine Parr - The final wife. She married a few people before Henry "to survive" but eventually she fell in love with Thomas Seymour (Jane Seymour's cousin, I believe) and planned her marriage to him. However, Henry, who was very old by this point, determined that she would be his wife. She had no choice in the matter and became the final queen, living with Henry until he died. After this, she married Thomas, but her life may not have been entirely happy. The musical doesn't go into it, but for a time, Catherine looked after Elizabeth, Anne Boleyn's daughter, and it's believed that Thomas attempted to marry Elizabeth (when she was still a child) for a stronger bid to the throne. Elizabeth was removed and placed in the Tower of London and Thomas was killed (I think, I could be wrong) and Catherine was left alone again. Her color is blue.

So glad you are doing Six like Mortius! Similar to him, please watch the live version of All You Wanna Do, by Samantha Pauly. To me, I think there is so much emotion to both watching it live and seeing the facial expressions outside of just an animatic. That song (regardless) is a very heavy subject matter, and Mortius’s video ended up being an hour for it. I definitely think it would be beneficial to watch the live version, but whichever way you choose, I will watch it! Can’t wait to see the rest of Six!

Interesting that you picked up on Anna of Cleeves accent… she tends to have a more ‘street’ accent. The original Australian cast for example, Cleeves had a much broader, queensland-ish accent than the other Queens. Boleyn Also tends towards Chav/bogan in most casts I’ve heard. I think the accents a distinct choice for each character.

Don’t know if some of these animatics used different versions of the songs, but if they do- If you’re confused by the characters possibly sounding different sometimes, it’s because this animatic used the studio cast recording version, which is different singers than the broadway cast recording. Again, you might not run into the question, but if u do, this is why-

I never learned about the six wives, other than a passing mention. Didn't even learn the dumb rhyme til I heard the musical soundtrack. But after watching some reactions n listening to it, And watching some historical people breakdowns I decided my favorites r Anne of Cleves and Anne Bolyn. Bolyn gets second place even tho she's got probably my favorite song of them. For me Howard has been the most forgettable for some reason. But yeah' Anne of Cleves' story both in the musical and historically is my favorite of them. I also personally think she got to the other side of her relationship better than any of the other wives. Like tied with Parr if not even better. I mean keeping a strong relationship with her ex-husband, essentially being treated as family by one of the most brutal kings of the time must've been absolutely insane. Especially since his previous 2 wives died one way or another n the wife immediately after her ALSO died. Catherine of Aragon was, imo, one of the least lucky survivors cuz she genuinely loved him n held onto that marriage until her death, even tho he literally divorced her, cuz she didn't believe in divorce. N the theory I heard is that he suffered brain damage n that's likely how all this ended up happening. Pretty sure the brain damage happened during his first marriage. Imagine one day ur husband n love of ur life almost dies then the next day he wakes up a mean and adulterous man. She's the survivor I feel the most sorry for. But yeah, figured i'd drop my opinion on this down here before I continue since i'm halfway through the first vid of the reaction.
