I DID’NT KNOW “Galaxy Quest “ Was Going To Be This Funny! First Time Watching!

What Up!! I’m back with another movie reaction and this time we’re checking Galaxy Quest (1999) with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell and other great actors.
From what I know, Galaxy Quest is about a group of 1970s actors from a sci-fi show that are barely getting by. They get beamed up to a spaceship and is asked to assist a in defending a regime of aliens trying oppress them .
That sound about right? We will see! This is my first time watching Galaxy Quest reaction from ya boy Devin G.

Fun fact: They cut a scene out to lower the rating to make it more child friendly, but the scene was Fred getting high before getting onto the ship, that's why he's so chill and always snacking and smiling and a little "out of it" throughout the movie 😂

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It's not just funny, but a loving tribute to nerd culture. It's even been called one of the best Star Trek movies by fans of the shows just because it pays homage to the Trek universe.

Actors who played in Star Trek have said this movie represented exactly what it felt like, years down the line, and never being able to get away from a franchise. Never able to land a different role. Being typecasted. Harboring resentment, but learning to embrace it. Leonard Nimoy played Spock. For years he used to HATE the line "Live Long and Prosper", because of the amount of times it was repeated on the show and by fans. But then he saw how much of a positive impact it made on fans' lives. Then he accepted it with love until the day he died.

the relationship between tim allens and allen rickmans character in the beginning is based on the relationship between William shatner and Leonard nemoy from the actual star trek behind closed doors. They were best friends in the show but not eachothers biggest fans of eachother irl. Another fun detail of this film :P

Their friendship only soured after Shatner took liberties with some footage from the show (?) that Nimoy didn't agree to have shown, or something to that effect. Shatner and Takei's off-screen relationship wasn't good, either. Both of them were just being childish, imo. Shatner and Takei, not Nimoy.

There's this really neat narrative trick they use in the movie - it starts at old-school TV proportions with the old TV show, then goes to wider screen with the stuff on Earth, and then, finally, when Taggart sees where he is before he gets sent home the first time...the screen _truly_ opens up wide to show the scope.

You're my favorite "reactor" and it warms my heart to see you giving some love to Galaxy Quest, one of my favorites. It's primarily a comedy but has some incredibly touching moments that are incredibly well done. It's also a nice mix of veteran and "up and coming" actors - at the time Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman had some prior success but for several others this movie was their breakthrough performance and most, if not all, went on to further success.

1. Sigourney Weaver's zipper get lower as the movie goes on and the excitement goes up. 2. Alan Rickman is never shown without his alien headpiece, even at home. 3. As to getting in to character, Sigourney Weaver said of putting on the blonde wig, "I could feel my I.Q. drop precipitously." 4. The director didn't like the studio's decision to dub Sigourney Weaver's "F*ck that" line with "Screw that" because it got the biggest laughs in test audience's. So he told Weaver to give bad readings of the "Screw that" line so audiences could see that it was dubbed. 5. The DVD has the Thermian Language Audio Track. (Entire movie dubbed in Thermian)

Amazon Studios green lit the Galaxy Quest TV show years ago. All original cast members signed on to do it because they loved the movie. Sadly, Alan Rickman passed away before filming started, so they decided to not do the show without him.

When I was a kid, guy wasn't my favorite character... but as an adult, he's the best. I love the actor independent of this movie. But also, his reactions are so relatable. A funny behind the scenes story about this movie... Tim Allen was hardcore into this role and when they were doing the scene where they go to the alien planet, he was arguing that he should be making checks to see if they could breathe. They told him not to worry about it. The next take Guy did the improv of him going off about checking for air. That scene makes me laugh everytime now.

A lot of people get the design aspects of Sarris wrong and thinks it's insect based, when his design is actually based on aquatic life. The head arms are crab legs, the blades that pop up when he gets angry are based on a lionfish and the rest of his body is covered in shell like armour and other ocean based looks. The Thermians are octopuses also. It all looks great and is some of Stan Winston's greatest work, but let's face it, all his work is great...
