The match process is cruel. I think this year was actually kinder because those who were disappointed in their match didn’t have to fake it in front of anyone and those who didn’t match could ignore the whole thing. I have a friend who opened her match on stage to find she was going to basically the last place she wanted to go, but had listed to be safe. Her tears were NOT happy tears. It’s a weird system. Glad that you ended up where you are happy.

I don't know why. US medical schools don't give a license to practice if you don't match for a residency.In most other countries it just means you may not become a specialist of your choice but you can always become a general practitioner.

Me watching this as a 2021/2022 non-US IMG applicant for Internal medicine with ZERO interviews.... The match process is extremely cruel this year with single applicants hoarding more that 30 interviews. What hope is there when ur entire dream of becoming a physician is hanging by a string 😰😓

Wait.... if you do not match, there is a chance when you’re scrambling, you could not be matched in the field you want to be in? So you’d have to settle to study for the next 3-5 years in a residency you don’t want to be in?? Also, what are the chances if you apply the next year? Is the process the same?
@MizSazz4 жыл бұрын
elyse lang dont know about America but a Canadian Doctor I follow mentioned that over there if you didnt match you do an extra year of schooling there till the next match day
@katemichelle3 жыл бұрын
You can be matched into a field you didn’t want but can decide to try to process again the next year (so basically spend a year in something you don’t want just to have a job and then try again). So you don’t have to go through the whole residency if you match into something you hate. If you apply the next year, it depends on what you want to go into and up to the programs if they want to hold that against you or not

So you did match, even via SOAP! 👍👍👍 I did not match at all, and this is a disaster. I now have my job contract expiring and the fellowship I planned to go instead of residency put a hiring freeze because if covid. So I have no place to go and I am an IMG with low scores😭 I have applied to 104 residencies and got only one interview and I would give anything to go there😭 And btw we (IMGs) have no one to advice us on anything in the process of entering the residency or to guide us and I am surprised you have such a support in your system! I never heard of such secret rooms”😮 this is great!
