It's not mute, as mute is actually unable to speak. This is selective mutism and I think it deserves more recognition as I had it and no one knew about it. They all either assumed I was full on mute or really shy. My mom tried putting me in speech therapy in middle school, but I hated that. I'd assume they have someone who doesn't like their presence online behind them, like an annoying sister, but then they'd break out with a "FINE IM DONE BEING SHUT. when replied to "why'd you do that?" he'd go "JUST CAUSE, HAHAHAHA. What got me to be more vocal was getting a cat except I would only meow and even thought that I was a cat in a past life. They had me see a school psych/therapist and speech therapist for a few years. I did start talking to people that I felt comfortable with over time but I had a really bad stutter at first. I have Tourette's and severe social anxiety along with generalized and separation anxiety. It's gotten better over the years but has left me with a lot of stories and awkward moments. So I wanted to say thank you for sharing your stories and your art. I am an artist and your art has inspired me to want to draw more often on more than one occasion. This was so inspiring to me, thank you so much for this video! I'll explain why I find it inspiring I relate with the video, but from a different beginning. When I was 5 I talked, but then I got beaten up a lot because I was in a bad school. After all the physical bullying I went mute so people would leave me alone but it didnt help, it made it worse. Then people started bullying me for being quiet and made it worse. Also I am so glad you mentioned the part about the "cute shy," it doesnt work that way in real life. Real people find mutes to be annoying and weird and they always assume its for attention. I watched your improvement (I've been here since before your first voice reveal), and after watching you go through everything you have its been inspiring me to talk more. Its scary, and I cant shake off that fear that I'll make people upset by talking (because I used to get beaten up for it), but I am setting a goal now to start talking more and being more open like you are. I've been getting better but I have a long way to go. Thank you for your videos!

I can relate. I also went through something very similar which spanned from 2nd grade until my last year of high school (so about 10 years). I was diagnosed with selective mutism, which is a severe anxiety disorder in which a person isn't capable of speaking in certain social situations but still capable of speaking properly. In my case it was at school. I was sort of able to get by at first by whispering to staff or a few people but as I entered high school, I was extremely lonely since being social around others was an essential part of being in high school. At one point I wanted to drop out because I couldn't stand the loneliness while everyone else was socializing, but with the help of some staff, I decided that I wanted to overcome my selective mutism. It wasn't an easy process as it was slow and steady. I've had many failed attempts throughout my school years in trying to speak but this time it was different as I now had a reason for wanting to speak. As the years went by I was able to slowly get comfortable in speaking to certain people and without having to point or whisper (in a small setting). I was even able to do my senior presentation in front of a classroom which was a big accomplishment for me. Even after that I was still mute in my last days of high school but all of that changed once I entered college. Fast forward to my college years and today, I can still get a bit shy and still be soft spoken, but now I am capable of speaking in front of other people and I'm glad to have overcome my selective mutism, for the better. And I'm also glad that you were able to overcome your social anxiety Wolfy as you're not the only one who's had to go through this. You've come such a long way and I'm glad you shared this story! ❤

You've grown so much Wolfychu, I'm so proud of you! To say that I can relate, is definitely an understatement. I'm very much the same way. I never speak to people unless I need to. I'm extremely shy and self-conscious like you are, and I'm still working on getting out of my shell to this day. Just sharing my voice on the internet alone fills me with so much pressure and anxiety. I wasn't really into making friends back into my school days because I was always afraid of getting hurt, and I never felt like I really fit in with anyone. I always pushed others away from me when I was a kid whenever other students tried to talk to me. It makes me happy to see how much you've grown and come out of your shell. I'm not the type to open up to others easily as well, and me being the way I am is one of those reasons. Keep being confident in who you are Wolfy and never change! You fill all our lives with happiness and wholesomeness. Send my regards to Jordan and Mochi! 💖

I appreciate this video a ton! I've done this many times in my life. The description of not being able to speak with the nodding and shaking the head is something I've dealt with. It was weird because I'm autistic, and my family knew about it, but because I typically wasn't non-verbal, so they didn't get it. People just being kind, and talking to you without making a big deal about it helps a ton. Thank you!

This is so relatable. I’m always quiet and don’t talk unless my friends talk to me first.

Tend to distance myself from others. Some people do walk up to me and compliment me and stuff and I give a quiet low response. I want to make friends but I'm scared, and anxious, I have online friends and I always express my fun side, loud side, and all the hyper things I would talk about etc. Thanks Wolfy for this relatable video! 😊❤️

Man I know that feeling you try to explain. I had the exact same feeling when I was a kid. People thought I was weird. But now I am older I have that feeling way less. It comes up sometimes but not as much as it was before. I’m glad you have grown as well Wolfy. You are a great person❤️

I can relate a lot to this video! Wolfychu had improved so much, I'm also a silent person as well, I don't talk much in school because I get anxious a lot or having anxiety, I'm also usually at the back of the classroom to. I also love Komi can't communicate because it also relates to me so much and I'm currently getting all of the Komi can't communicate manga. Since I watched this AMAZING video, I think this will help me a lot step by step and taking time till I get there. Thank you Wolfychu, your the best!

3:26 "It's probably for attention." That... doesn't make sense. Why would someone who is desperate for attention refuse to speak? At the very least, wouldn't they get bored of that eventually and try something else? I'm not saying that "tHeY'Re dOiNg iT fOr aTteNtIoN" is a smart, good, or helpful thing to say in general. It's just that it's particularly nonsensical in this case.

I understand this so much. For a lot of my life I was in the same position. Sometimes I break down again and it is difficult to get myself back to that point without people who I one hundred percent trust helping me. Komi is above all a good show for those like myself. Unable to communicate without pushing ourselves and extremely inept socially unless in very specific circumstances

I can relate. I have autism and back when I was really young I wouldn't talk to anyone except my immediate family or friends I felt comfortable with. I would also eventually talk to my teachers once I became comfortable with them. Even today I am slightly uncommunicative with people I don't know, but I'm getting better.

I just got interrupted or basically wasn't allowed to talk because other people mostly adults were ALWAYS talking, like non-stop So I would just either be silent for most of the day or just go up to my room and get away from people. I never really stopped talking altogether, but I sort of get that you wouldn't find much of a point in talking. You don't usually get something across that people don't already know or is somehow important. Not to mention sensory overload and just general shyness, I guess? I also believed I was a cat for a long time, I just really liked cats. I could both miauw like a cat and hiss, breathing through my nose and mouth at the same time and other things. People always thought I was weird, but cats are just my spirit animals.
